  • The train featured in this film is a typical example of a local passenger service working the route from Cheltenham to Andover in the summer of 1924. The engine MSWJR 4-4-4T No. 17-was one of a pair acquired from Sharp Stewart & Co. of Glasgow in 1897 and was specifically designed for working stopping passenger trains. It is shown here in the distinctive red livery of the MSWJR and although it was taken into GWR ownership in 1923 and modified at Swindon, it only lasted in service until October 1927.

Definitely a nice curiosity. With this being the second video of the MSWJR, I think it is great you are keeping its memory alive.

What a very unusual wheel arrangement a 4-4-4 is. A rare bird indeed. To my knowledge there are none in the U.K.

Look at the lining on that loco, especially the wheels.
(Bear in mind it’s all kit built and painted by hand)

@spankflaps1365. Thank you for watching so closely to this video. The models at Pendon are (as you say) precision built and painted by hand by one of our team of volunteer modellers.

Definitely like the scale speed of the train. No taking curves on two wheels!

William thanks again for this one. MSWJR Station is largely complete with only fine detailing left plus 4 Station lamps. These are in the planning stage at present and when modelled will be lit, adding even more atmosphere to the Diorama.
