  • REASONS WHY YOU MIGHT NEED TO CHANGE / REMOVE THE MAIN HEAT EXCHANGER:
    - The first reason why you might need to change the heat exchanger could be that it is leaking. If the heat exchanger has failed then it could be leaking water into the boiler or through the condense pipe (your boiler will keep losing pressure).
    - The second reason why you might need to change the heat exchanger could be that it is blocked up. Over time the metals in the heating circuit sludge up (combined build-up of rust and dirt breaking off from copper pipes and radiators), it is possible for this sludge to block up the heat exchanger. If this were to happen the boiler would keep over heating as the water is not flowing properly. Sometimes when the boiler is operating you will hear loud banging noises coming from the heat exchanger. If the heat exchanger is blocked, you can try take it out and flush it through or you can replace it.
    - You could also get some of these fault codes coming up: F76 / F72 / F24 / F23
Hope you learnt a thing or two from the removal of the heat exchanger of this Vaillant Eco Tec

If the waterways within this heat exchanger are blocked can you clean them better by taking it off? Somebody told me you could even try to pressure wash it

Are there the holes at the top to put the chemical in case of blockage?

Sorry, my mum has no heating and its a Valliant boiler with a F2 error code. We were led to believe this is to do with limescale build up. Is this correct?

Always fit a new H/EX to flue elbow rubber seal as the existing one will probably be past it's sell by date.
