Bobby!!! How many times I gots ta tell you, son?!!! THIS MUSIC IS THA DEVIL!!! Your chickens gonna come home to roost, Bobby Boucher!!!
It's a song about Donald trump!
That's a 60 year old man beating the living daylights out of those drums... Hats off Peeps..
Almost 63 actually which is even crazier lol
Best drummer alive. 😊
This song actually won a Grammy!
Danny’s acceptance speech was hilarious when he said he was surprised anyone had the attention span for a 12 minute song 😂
it fucking should have!
the grammies won this song.
I CAN NOT WAIT to see you do Right in Two by Tool. ⚡🔥
Same here. Right in Two is just one of those songs that have both a beautiful message and a beautiful song.
Undoubtedly excited for that.
You know he loves his tribal beats... well Danny Cary is going to make you shit the bed!
I came here to say this ... *hi5* mfrs
@@Tylerdoesit haha yeah definitely waiting for right in two but you kinda touched on it here. I'm doing the pee pee dance waiting for king dingaling of tool songs, lost keys/rosetta stoned.
The Animated Video of Right in Two is so powerful !!!
Parabol/Parabola is my favorite and if you decide to react to them, you should definitely listen to them together. Parabol is a much needed lead into a Parabola. You don't want to just jump straight to the start of Parabola.
Also, if you end up doing Rosetta Stoned.....I'd similarly suggest playing Lost Keys right before it too. It's not a "song" but also a shorter snippet which gives much needed context.
I second this
I third this^^^^^
Lipan Conjuring is the beginning of the trip, so it must be added. Also, Rosetta Stoned must be heard at the end of his Tool journey. This song is the final boss in Tool's discography in my opinion.
@@yosshy4774 facts. the whole album flows
Rosetta Stoned is a must with lyrics I'd say. Such beautiful words :'D
A + tem + pest + must + be + just + that = 7. That's no coincidence, the song is 21/8 and mostly through the song you can take 3 groups of 7 and it sums up 21, for example, the intro is 5,5,5,6 = 21 etc. They really really take their time with this album to make it like alchemy and maths
🤯
a+7em+pest
As is it’s nature, it will come for all of us. Also...for more on the dedication put into this album:
czcams.com/video/4pVk6zMpoTU/video.html
7 is a recurring theme in much of their music. Example: Pry-ing-o-pen-my-third-eye.
Adam said he had been holding onto many of these riffs since the 90s. Adam's tones are haunting, and he never over does the solos. This is Adam's "hold my beer" song.🤘
EDIT: great song. Not top 5 TOOL IMO
Facts
Yeah, I heard it called more of a "taking a guitar lead" rather than "doing a guitar solo" when it comes to Adam. And I think that's what makes the songs better. It's never Slash vs. Axel Rose, etc. It's each band member doing their best part for the whole of the song. And the whole is better than any of the parts, and never less than their sum.
@@spinin1251 woah! Well said!
To be fair its not Top 5 cause every track is top 5. IMO
@@prophecygg5826 Exactly, Tool has over 20 top 5’s…which is fair…

Healing energy and thinking of your sons well being 🫂
You need to go back through their entire discography from start to finish. Listening to their progression to what they are now is just mind blowing.
I can pretty confidently say that I like my 30th favorite Tool song more than 99.999% of music out there.
Sometimes I need to watch a first listen reaction to appreciate again how amazing these tracks are
I am generally in awe of Tool, and I think Adam Jones is the unsung hero of the quartet. The man is a true artist, well beyond music. Check out any bio on his work. Unbelievable amount of artistic talent.
It's Adam's band, so you're right on the money. The music typically all comes from Adam then Justin and sometimes vice versa, but the overall direction is definitely Adam. Tool is Adam's baby.
They all add their own uniqueness to the band, but it was the addition of justin that made it whole.
He has a unique style for sure
He may not be my 'favorite' of the band...but I can 100% agree that he's just as important as the rest of them.
@@ethosfm1262 bold statement there about where the music starts/comes from, it sounds like it’s pretty equal collaboration between him Justin and beats Danny creates. But I’d love to see your source on that if its true that would be crazy!
One of the only Tool songs where Danny has his snare turned on
Sometimes they play in unison, but the really unique thing about Tool is that very often Adam is playing rhythm while Justin plays lead parts. Justin very often plays much higher notes than you typically hear from a bassist, and he’s often playing very melodical stuff.
A great example of this is beginning of The Patient.
This! Yes!!!!
True. Their interplay is fascinating. Justin all over the neck and Adam with killer riffs and creative leads. Delay, flange etc play a part with their huge sound
This is a common theme for Maynards lyrics. He talks about "storms" in life and that you are better off to embrace and prepare for them than if you pretend they won't happen and then are unprepared for them. You know their nature. Don't be fooled into thinking life is all rosy and easy. Life is hard. It's the journey and the constant struggle that make life beautiful. Also this song was the same for me, my first listen through of this album, I didn't immediately get hooked on this. I loved Decending, Pneuma, and Culling Voices but believe me, by my 3rd or 4th play through, I can't get enough of this song
The storm is us and we are the storm.
Those “storms” are also referring to individual views of reality. Prying open your third eye so that you can see it “accurately”…Think for yourself, question authority…with multiple other Parables throughout every album, every track.
Also notice that you NEVER hear Maynard or anyone else in the band taking about shit that doesn’t matter. Like politics. Because when you know, you know.
I Love how none of the members try to outshine each other, they respect each other that each has a part that’s their own but also works with what everyone else is doing. The amount of creative respect is different then other bands. The three instrumentalist have hung out and jammed together to come up with these rifts for years!
To me this track is very reminiscent of the tone and feel of Undertow. Still in rotation on my playlists even after all these years. Undertow is just so very raw and powerful. Flood might be the sleeper track on that album but just the pure energy and aggression coming from that album is amazing. Definitely several tracks you should check out from Undertow.
I totally agree! I get that same vibe when I listen to this song. Undertow was the first album that threw me into the Tool Army. Still in my rotation as well and always will be. I really liked Opiate when I first heard it back in the day, but Undertow is what solidified my love for this band. Lateralus is neck and neck with Undertow for me but Undertow stretches out just a little bit further. Maybe because I’ve been listening since 93 when it came out and the nostalgia of it all or that it’s when I really started to respect and admire this band so much….Idk, just adore that album.
It's like Adam has recycled riffs from all previous albums, "fuck, here we go again" I believe is in reference to that, not sure where I read or heard that.
I strongly recommend listening to the entire album in order after you've hear all the songs. From start to finish 7empest feels like a massive climax to the album as a whole and sounds way more intense.
7empest is a little gift to all of us original Tool fans. This sounds very reminiscent of the Undertow sound, but more of a higher scale of talent. Matured, experienced, and powerful. Tool is intricate, detailed, and thorough, but they can still just outright kick you in the teeth if they want to.
Let’s go!!!!!!! Listen a couple times and it will happen!!! Tool Army has your back 🤟
Once was enough to become one of my favorite songs of all time.
THIS SONG WON A GRAMMY
It's a good morning when there's a new Tool reaction from you!! I've been enjoying your content a lot! Keep up the great work.
how auspicious for you to put this out on Adam Jones' birthday 😁this is his longest guitar solo ever, so it was kinda funny hearing you say "he doesn't do flashy solos" right before his flashiest solo LOL
I agree 100% that this is Adam's, "hold my beer watch this" song. I'd actually contend that each member has their own song on this album. Pneuma - Danny, Culling Voices - Maynard, 7empest - Adam, Fear Inoculum - Justin
Yet descending is the best song.
@@sacredgeometry not sure about the best, but it’s definitely in the top 7 on FI
@@5piral0ut Its the best ... it or culling voices. The rest are phenomenal but those to are up there with the best from all their releases.
I don't know how I'm just now getting to this video, but I'm here. I am black like you, and proud to find someone else like me who loves to occupy the black alt space! I fell in love with this band when I was still in hs in 1993. I am a father of 5 girls, married, and in sales. I love your Tool content, because it makes me feel like I am rediscovering the band for the first time. Thank you for sharing!
I just refreshed my feed with the intent of finding another of your reactions. Hell yeah! Here we go again!
"he's pissed off " wait for UNDERTOW🙏
This song is kind of a showcase for the band, and homage to their past sound all the way to their newer sound, all wrapped up in a furious tempest of sound. Adam really stepped it up and highlighted his skills and various tones on this album so much.
This was my favourite track first listen and then stayed there. Technical monster.
Check out some old school Tool soon. See where this band began to where it is now. I recommend 'Jerk Off (live)' from their Opiate EP to start that journey.
Agree - this sounds like it could've been on Opiate. Nice callback.
Can't go wrong on Tool...ever...."Rosetta Stoned" next please!!!!
I requested this one too, but another Tool fan said he might not be quite ready for that, haha. He might be right, but I'd love to see how he reacts.. I love all of Tool's work, but Rosetta Stoned is my absolute fav..
might be too intense for him at this point lol
Lol, I was thinking the same thing, maybe not ready for it
Aliens and DMT, what else do you need? Written in a time signature and scale mode to intentionally make the listener feel uneasy until the resolution in one of the best bridges in all of rock.
not without Lost Keys (Blame Hoffman)
Definitely a slow burner, it gets better with every listen. It started out as another good song by tool to one that is giving me the chills when listening to it now.
When they play together [Adam, Justin & Danny] it’s called Syncopation. Their timing and consistency is perfect 🤘
I believe you mean “imitation” is when all instruments plays the same thing at the same time.
Syncopation is “..in music, the displacement of regular accents associated with given metrical patterns, resulting in a disruption of the listener's expectations and the arousal of a desire for the reestablishment of metric normality; hence the characteristic “forward drive” of highly syncopated music.” Think of the off-beat guitar in reggae as syncopation.
Thank you for correcting that.
i love these almost daily tool reactions :) i truly do think you give the most insight in these reactions. keep them coming man, i’ll always be clicking. if i had to give a song suggestion, i would check out Parabol/Parabola, it will blow you away. as much as i love Third Eye, i would save that reaction until you’re really comfortable with their music and sound. keep them coming!
Yeah I think Rosetta Stone and third eye should be some of the last he reacts too.
Usually they’re all playing different pieces of the song unlike a “normal band” Adam plays like a drummer, Danny plays like a bass player , Justin plays like a guitarist, and Maynard just has his vocal tool. They’re just amazing
So many suggestions from people and I'm here shaking my head yes just can't wait for another Tool song which ever one it is ....right let's go 🌀❤️🌹
This one really grows the more you listen to it, there are so many great nuances to discover. Top 3 on this album for me.
Parabol + Parabola by Tool. Make sure to listen to them unbroken.
Needa take it back to Undertow now
Still my favorite album
If you think Maynard is mad at someone in this song, try Ticks and Leeches. Also check out who it's aimed at. Absolutely wonderful anger.
This song always makes me think of “Stranglehold” by Ted Nugent during the long solo section. As a guitarist, it’s such a great groove to jam out to and this is Adam having that kind of fun
They have a pretty dope cover of stranglehold on CZcams. Check it out.
@@Youtubz12 I’ve seen it. It is cool.
I have to say, during all your Tool reactions that kinetic energy sculpture in the background fits very well with the music and is somewhat hypnotic lol
Is there anyone else that feels Justin's strings are as heavy as the cables holding up the smoke stacks on the Titanic??? So effing sick!! 🤘
I've a been a fan for 40 years. this is one of how masterpieces of Tool. I've lost count.
This song is fire, on many levels, and shows a huge progression for the band! Good enough to win a grammy anyway!
You've hit the nail on the head with the guitarist. He doesn't do over the top widdely solos, they are very melodic and intentional. This is one of the things I love about Tool.
Man, this is one of those tour de force songs by Adam. My friends and I had a saying when the album came out: "What is your favorite song on Fear Inoculum and why is it 7empest." I am sure a lot of us old school TOOL fans would love to see you give some 90's albums some love and react to "Bottom".
@POLO REACTS To answer your question about Adan and Justin playing in Sync, it is actually the opposite! The opposite of Syncopation is called a Polyrhythm! Danney also joins the party, if you listen closely. And to top it all off, instead of composing the song in a 4-based time signature, these dudes play all this in a 3-based time signature. Hence the name, Holy Trinity, Triad, etc. Pure. Genius.
All tool songs are my favorite
Had a hard time seeing your eyes in this reaction! Lol!!! Love ya Bro!!!
This song and Descending were head to head for the best ones from the album for me. The Descending eventually won out, I think. So take it from another Descending fan, once you give 7empest some time and a few more listens, it will start hitting and impressing more.
And I don't think anyone expects you to be able to break Tool tracks down expertly. You are not a noob anymore and are a fan. It's OK to just enjoy and comment as you see fit. Tool fans just love someone reacting, digging the music, being blown away like we once were, and joining the fandom. You can always read up or watch more on the technical side. You get the benefit of being able to be a first-time reactor to the songs, while already simultaneously being a fan and experiencing it with other fans.
Right in Two, Schism, Stinkfist, Eulogy - any of these next.
Well said my friend. For some reason though...Fear Inoculum is my favorite album from Tool, it just hits me different. I love tracks that go beyond the normal 4 to 5 minute mark. I love the vibe of the whole album...just feels powerful to me. It may also have to do with this album speaking to me because of my dad passing at the time of Fear Inoculum dropping. I am not discrediting any of Tool's albums by any means, they are all epic, this is just my personal opinion and feeling of course. Sorry for the rant...lol. Have a good one!
@@zackbalins658 The album is more like a fine wine. It's more mature than than the other albums, as are the band members. I can see why it would be your favorite, coinciding with your dad's passing. All the best.
Invincible is best song for me from this album
Nothing but stank face in my house when my kids discover a new favorite tool song. I saw them in 92, 96, 99, 2002 and 2019. Their evolution over the years is insane. Everything they do is extremely meaningful. All meat, no fillers.
Not only are these guys geniuses in making their tracks but there is so much more to just a track, especially this one, 7empest. One, everyone that I has heard this track says the same thing, I don’t think I have ever heard Tool sound like this. Two, such a tribute to their influences but it still sounds like Tool. Three, track placement in this album, tracks such as Invincible, Descending, & Culling Voices, many people say Tool is softer and getting older, etc., then boom, we’re in our 60’s & listen to this fucking track. Not only are we still relevant but we can still bring it! Lastly, and I hope that I am 100% wrong. Near the end of 7empest, just like the end of a concert, they let each instrument stand out on their own for a few bars, as a tribute to each member. I hope this isn’t their last track / album. I listen to Tool everyday and I mean everyday. Every track has so many little things that come out after many, many listens. 🤘🏻🌀
Very true! I was at a tool concert in 2006, and we were right up front, and there was this dude in his 60s yelling "feed me Maynard, feed me!". At the time I thought the guy was crazy. Now, I kinda get it.
Spiral out on No Quarter or Stranglehold live (Remastered version). Rock on Polo...🎤🎧🎛
One of my favorite Tool songs. Love it!
Love this song
Can't wait for you to react to their sophomore album "Undertow" to see how, they've progressed.
A standout song for me on that album is "Crawl Away" which opens up with Peruvian Pan Flute music (very faint) before going into a heavy bass line by former bassist Paul D'Amour
Agreed!
I think you should go back in time and hear them do Flood and Bottom
Bottom for sure
Flood. Indeed. It’s crazy to scroll through as many comments as I do without seeing that one mentioned
It’s hard to compile a top 5 but I’m pretty certain Flood is in mine
Don't worry about ranking songs/artists/music. Just enjoy what you are hearing now, then listen for more.
I love this song and album. Been listening to Tool since the early 90's, and I enjoy it all. This album was a huge excitement and relief when it dropped. I wonder if I should have counted how many times I have listened so far?
Oh shit, you're moving right on to 7empest! Someone get this man some dog tags and BDUs! Welcome to the Army!
I look at this song as being like prime Miles / Coltrane: Danny, Adam, and Justin each get their own sections of the song to show off their mastery of their instruments, all while moving the song forward. It deserves the Grammy that it won.
And down the rabbit hole we go... Welcome brother we knew you were coming we've been waiting all along
Right in Two. Right in Two. Right in Two.
Your continual stank face while listening says it all man! Tool has been one of my favs for almost 20 years so I understand
I can use "Adam Jones" and "David Gilmour" in the same sentence, and it will always feel right. Top 2 guitarists in my book.
Loving your journey! And welcome to the TOOL Army!
This song so awesome…it’s exhausting, but worth the work. Woo
Long time Tool fan here. 22:38 to the end is probably my favorite section of music they've ever produced!
I gotta admit, the end of this song gives me visuals of TOOL riding off into the sunset. Hopefully not for good, but it's a nice way to go out (CD version that is).
You love tool now... AND WE LOVE YOU SIR
this was my most listened to song of 2022 on Spotify!
Likely mentioned below somewhere,, but first time listeners sometimes don't realize that some of the "guitar" work is actually Justin on the bass. FYI
This is the cosmic motorcycle firing on all cylinders and cutting right angles on a dime 🔥 they very rarely dual the guitar and bass (often the bass plays the opposite to the beat) but they did it perfectly in this song
I found it hilarious that you were going on about the simplicity of Adams playing style when you were in for a contradictory surprise!
Lost keys / Rosetta next please!
They won a Grammy best metal song
Best metal performance....whatever that means.
Not sure how many people recognize how much Justin is holding most of Tools songs together. Also playing many of those higher notes that many think are Adam on guitar. His skill at bass rifts while maintaining that full sound (which he holds consistently live as well) is a rare deep talent. Been playing bass guitar for 37yrs and can hold my own but I know of no one who matches the level he operates on.
This one starts off as a slow burn because the song models a storm. There’s a calm before the storm, it begins building, it crests, and then it slows down and fades away.
Politicians! Liars! Broken promises...
Yes the timing of everything is soo perfect vocals, drums, guitar. Are on the same page.
Another great song by Tool. I have to say that this is all new for me as well as for you. I can now understand why people have been telling me to listen to this band for so long and also why the people who listen to them are so emotionally attached to them. They are that good, one of the greatest of all time IMHO. 🔥
I keep getting hypnotized by the damn Swinging Sticks (perpetual motion machine) in the background 😂
This song is so reminiscent to me of the sound from the album "Undertow" it's so raw and visceral but, cerebral at the same time. And yes, I'm OGT since '92 😂
I would agree with you. As I've found with many of Tool's songs (especially my favorites), by nature of their complexity and duration they absolutely get better with time. Yet, they never become redundant or repetitive. It's fascinating to me.
This is awesome .tempest is believing in you and not being a puppet
I love how much you love Adam Jones. I think his genius is pretty understated. This song is an Adam Jones master class.
Yes, Polo!!! The holy Trinity ( Disposition, Reflection, into Triad ).. But, you MUST listen to them all in that order or risk losing much respect.
I remember those days. Back when they thought you could fix a TV or someone with a stutter by slapping it a couple times. They were simpler times and more than a few people became simpler because of it I'm sure. It's clearly apparent you aren't stupid, so my school of thought is either they're not saying much of anything, Or something was said in such a way as to require more consideration than I care to currently expend to decipher or extrapolate the meaning intended. Sometimes I enjoy puzzles, but not first thing in the morning, and not having the puzzle be how to unlock my pants to take a leak.
Touchè
Polo. When you do Rosetta stoned. Please please include lost keys in the video. Because it leads into the song. It’s basically an alien abduction song and he’s trying to explain to docs what’s happened. I’m telling ya I’ve watched all your videos and this one’s gonna blow you away. Just make sure you do both and can’t wait to see your reaction!!!
I know I'm still blown away to this day!
Oh man, I agree TOOL is one of the greatest artists of our time, maybe even before, maybe even after.
Polo, keep the great reactions coming. As you said in The Grudge review. You could hear the anger and feel the pain in manards voice. You haven’t even heard angry Maynard yet. All in good time my mesmerizing friend. All in good time.
Their music definitely blossoms in your mind over time. 'let the rabbits wear glasses!'
“The cries of the Carrots”!!
Tomorrow is harvest day and to them it is the Holocaust
Adam has done more with drop D tuning than any other guitarist has ever thought about doing. The timing of his hammer on and pull off heavy riffs are not easy to play. They go against most players natural rhythmic sense of time, specifically where upbeats and downbeats land
Yess! I love how Adam basically uses the guitar as a percussion instrument at times.
Some of his cross picking techniques can be attributed to having learned to play violin when he was growing up
Adam and Justin rarely play the same thing together….but it does happen
It's just a set-up so they can get you comfortable before they blow your mind overlapping asynchronous rhythms that have no business going together so well ;)
@11:30 "this is different.." .. the actually classic TOOL sound reminiscent of the Undertow album to me. 👍👍

Best guitar solo, entire song..
My favourite song from Fear Inoculum album, I just love it
Polo, everything you said about Adam is dead-on, but this was like a comedy skit, knowing that this is the one song where Adam truly "goes off" and waiting for that golden moment when you discover that he broke the mold. Wonderful!
Also, my favorite reaction to this song on CZcams, so far. Thanks for your efforts!
All good Tool songs have that slow down rhythm bridge section in the middle.
