      Hi Jeff, I don’t think we discussed that in the video. It’s Cha cha - slowly slowly, some little improvement but still an improvement. Drop by for a coffee and chat at the rose Garden 10-12 if you can on Mondays, it would be nice to catch up

    Seriously considering a retirement scouting trip to Huahin before the end of the year. Great to hear from a fellow Canadian (I'm from Newfoundland Eric) - excellent information, conversation and insights guys! Thanks so much and will be watching your channel closely. One thing I am concerned about is the water shortage in Huahin I have been hearing about. Is this something that anyone considering a move should be concerned about? I was wondering if you could discuss this or comment please. Keep up the great work!

      Hi Derrick, glad to hear you considering Hua Hin, the water shortage is not a problem especially now as it has been raining a few times. I think the issue was it clashed with Songkran so made things worse. They would also tanker the water in so I think this has only happened a few times in many years. They will try to improve when things like this happens. Thanks for watching and I will pass on your comments to Eric

  • @Fiddling_while_Rome_burns

    Some good advice here, so many vids i see from so called experts expats who discuss how much it costs to live in Thailand are ridicuus these people know nothing about Thailand. They usually say something like, 50,000 a month bare minimun...... it's also worth remembering Hua Hin is actually an expensive town, especially for rent. Most other small towns are cheaper to live in.

    • @whatsdeandoinginthailand
      @whatsdeandoinginthailand  Před 6 dny

      @@Fiddling_while_Rome_burns yes, you can get much cheaper in the rural areas but most people would not like that I think. However 8-10k rent in Hua Hin I think is very good and cannot complain about that. Sadly most new people arrive in Hua Hin Pay 20-25k for rent. Thanks for your comment 😀🙏

    Dean can you please point out in your next "Cheap non expensive Thailand" to retirement wannabees "Have A Plan of Action." After seeing what happened to Ed Sweeney wandering around for months with a 20kg suitcase, sometimes in dodgy hotels, continually getting a Tourist visa (although saying he is never going back to UK & is going to retire). Sadly it became too much for him & he fell ill needing Emergency Care after yet another visit to Pattaya living like a tourist.

    • @whatsdeandoinginthailand
      @whatsdeandoinginthailand  Před 23 dny +1

      I am watching many videos of Ed in hospital at the moment and now it seems to be a form of aggressive Cancer, I wish him well. Whenever I mention insurance I always insist that people should get proper insurance, I have sadly had experience of this, self funding is not a option, if you need a operation that is going to save your life and your life and your unconscious then you could die because you cannot prove funds. If you carry an insurance card then this is not an issue as the police will search for id and find the card. Ed did say that he has been paying in for it for years and now he needs it and has cost possibly over a million pounds.😀🙏

      @@whatsdeandoinginthailand Dean just a comparison of to-days view of alcohol & yesteryear, in Australia everyday are ads. "Alcohol causes 7 types of cancer!" gone are the manly beer ads, so it's become like cigarettes too expensive & restrictions of sale. But most of all the health system just can't cope with "Baby Boomers" needing care & the next generation having to seek private health insurance if you can afford it.👍🙏

    18000 Baht a month my goodness that is crazy low. Even Thais I know here wouldn't say this is doable. I hope this budget is sustainable long term. How do you have any money to travel anywhere? One domestic flight I take usually is 1000 to 2000 Baht alone

    • @whatsdeandoinginthailand
      @whatsdeandoinginthailand  Před 2 měsíci

      I believe his budget was even lower in chiang mai with Coffee only 40 baht so much cheaper than in Hua Hin. He does not smoke or drink, no massage and no girly bars maybe that’s the reason. He also normally has street food which is extremely cheap. However does come out with us once a week for English Breakfast and Coffees which as he said his budget has gone up compared to before. Well done Eric, I think he’s been doing with a lower budget for about 2 years now, so longer term I don’t think would be a problem. Thanks for your comment

    • @jacked6
      @jacked6 Před 2 měsíci

      @@whatsdeandoinginthailand I never smoked before and hardly ever drink too. I stick to the non alcohol beers now and cut off alcohol due to its health impact. The girly bars are definitely not for me perhaps maybe because I am in my early 40s still. I met lots of ladies my age range who love to go out at night for dinner and various beach activities, jetski, dancing etc. We always split bill but you knows costs add up so quickly for entertainment if you go out with anyone. I am not sure if he does any dating but you will find any snorkeling trip or road trip you take with anyone can add up the cost. Any sort of healthy imported foods like organic vegetables are salads are out of the question. I am curious how he handles the dating scene!

    Eric commented about renting being a better option than buying. What are the factors in that decision?

    • @HuaHinwalkaboutwithDean
      @HuaHinwalkaboutwithDean Před 2 měsíci +2

      Death would probably be the first as he’s no spring chicken, money would be the second and freedom would be the third. If you don’t have a wife then you cannot leave it to her, freedom: you cannot change your area if you buy, things can change very quickly when it comes to buildings, a bar or another condo could be put in a spare parcel of land next to you and this will affect you and you cannot move as the value of the property would probably drop and it would take 1-3 years to sell the property. Always best to rent and chase the next better property and price. Or you can spend 6 months in another country or move if you want with no worry. Thanks for your comment, yes old age is a factor as you will never get your money back vs renting

    • @whatsdeandoinginthailand
      @whatsdeandoinginthailand  Před 2 měsíci

      Yes you should be able to extend for at least 30 days, the rules have changed as from tomorrow you could probably arrive on a 60 day instead of a 30 day depending on your country. Thanks for the comment

    A lovely video, thank you. You are both my friends but I need to disagree with you both on some points.
    As a UK citizen I don't think you can go to Vietnam and obtain a "Visa on Arrival", however you can go for a period of time visa free.
    I have never heard of an International Driving Licence. Again I may be wrong but when I came to Thailand I had a UK driving licence + and International Driving Permit. The Permit only lasts for 1 year. I did the same as you Dean, a simple eye sight and reaction test to obtain my Thai licences for car and motorbike.
    I do like information to be correct when concerning government regulation issues but I do sometimes get stuff wrong so please correct me if that is so.
    The other video content was wonderful.

      @whatsdeandoinginthailand  Před 2 měsíci

      Thanks, my terminology may be incorrect. I went to the post office in the UK and as you say an international driving permit for 1 year. No Visa needed for UK Citizens for 45 Days. Thanks for your comment
