This high quality lens is compatible with Leica cameras, can be adapted to any other mirrorless camera, and offers incredible value for its price. It's an amazing bargain and the perfect addition to any camera kit. It also happens to be one of the very best lenses that I haver ever used, at any price-point.

    I like the design, the silver one is more cute unorthodox'ly vs the black one. But i'd prefer the 35/1.4 Simera...albeit it's too huge, too big for my taste. The Voigtländer Ultron 35 F2 (II) is a very good lens, almost as good as a usual 35/2 'Cron, for a bargain price - and it's also smaller than the Leica 'Cron. I'd like to see the 35/1.4 into a smaller lens design, also with floating lens elements.
    One could see the new chinese "Thypoch" brand as the "high end" version of 7Artisan & TTArtisan lenses....

  • @Renzsu

    Will be interesting to see how this compares to the soon to be released Voigtlander 28mm f/1.5 Nokton. I expect the Nokton to be a bit more expensive and probably more contrasty with less distortion, but they typically have quite strong vignetting.

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  Před 5 měsíci +2

      I suspect this company is shooting for that same user/buyer. When the comparable Leica lens is almost 8k, there’s lots of room beneath that price point.

      I’m going to wait to see how the Voigtlander performs. I have about ten Voigtlander lenses in F, M and E mount and they are all great. I opted for the 40mm f1.2 in E mount because of the electronic coupling and auto focus peaking which of course the adapted M lenses don’t support on E mount. I’m thinking about the 65mm and 110mm Voigtlander E mount lenses for the same reason.

    The side by side comparisons with M10 vs Sony A7R done by Phillip Reeve show it responds kinda badly to the thicker Sony sensor stack once adapted. Which isn't uncommon, but definitely worth noting.
    I like the look of the lens for sure, and even the quirky design bits. I'm a liiiiittle unsure of the infinity lock. Looks a bit fiddly and I'm not sure how it works with the small variance of pure infinity location that comes with temperature shifts.
    Overalls.. seems like a great lens to slot in between TTartisans and Voigtlander 💪

    • @ofeykalakar1
      @ofeykalakar1 Před 5 měsíci

      The infinity lock is solid as is the focus tab. What I don’t like about the tab is that it’s too close to the camera body when mounted and makes it difficult when it’s on an AF adapter like the Propronto on a Nikon camera. Other than that little quirk it has 14 beautiful rounded aperture blades and has an FLE and is super tiny for an f1.4 28 mm lens. A nice comparison would be with the new Voigtlander 28 f1.5 Nokton, also a super tiny lens with an all brass housing

      @@ChrisMosner I think you are correct. I have the Zf but had yet to test this, I saw some review videos saying how good the camera will be, with those focus tools, for manual lenses. In testing it on my camera just now, it doesn't work. Just shows I need to test all of these things myself, the channel that said this is one of the biggest on CZcams too. It looks like there may be some option of using electric adapters that trick the camera into thinking it has an electronic lens, but sure of all the details.

    Problem with adapting M mount lenses to non-Leica mirrorless cameras is the thicker sensor stack results in less than optimal image quality especially in wider focal lengths. Center sharpness should be fine but you'll notice softer mid frame to edges vis-à-vis on a native Leica body.

    IMHO its too clinical (correct, modern, digital) for Leica m style of photography. Rather for modern looking cinematography on modern hybrid camera 🤷‍♂

    3:38 Unfortunately, while the lens is rangefinder coupled, on an actual M rangefinder it seems to have focusing issues with the preview units they sent to content creators (like Samuel from Samuel Street Life). Also, the focus distance scale seems to be wrong. With Voigtlaender soon releasing a 28mm f1.5 I want to see how both lenses compare. I will very likely get one of the two.

      I think they have made a number of improvements, in general, with what the learned from the 35mm. Hopefully we will know more once one the Leica shooters gets their hands on one.

      @thedarkslide you're peddling misinformation. The issue he experienced had nothing to do with the lens. Samuel from Street Life said he was using an m-mount adapter for a mirrorless camera that messed up the calibration of the lens. Once he realized it, used a different one - a close focus adapter that allows him to calibrate the infinity focus. After that, everything was spot on.

    • @thedarkslide
      @thedarkslide Před 5 měsíci

      @@jpm5205 Yes, that is what Samuel found out in his last video - prior to my comment repeating exactly the issue as Samuel was reporting it initially. So any misinformation is exactly as Samuel's first experience with the lens reported on his channel.
      Again: before anyone can or should decide to buy this lens for use on an M body, maybe wait until someone reviews it on an M body.

    • @markwiemels

      I was primarily referring to the way Leica lenses render detail, contrast, and out of focus areas. This lens has some similar optical deign features, which provides a similar style of image.

      I internally pronounce it that way that it's said in english. There are lots of words we do this with, especially french words. If you order a filet, and use the french pronunciation, you would look pretty stilly, plus no one would know what you are talking about.
