PolyMatter these skinner box "games" are evil. That's why I mostly play retro games like Doom, StarCraft or Starsiege Tribes where one purchase means you can actually enjoy something and keep it indefinitely. Even MineCraft (on PC) got this right. Why can't mobile games?

Why is it that in mobile games there are 2 currencies that are ALWAYS like:
1. The useless currency that you get for doing ANYTHING.
2. The useful currency that's really hard to get without paying.
For two reasons:
1. To further confuse one on how much one has already spend on the game.
2. To give the player the illusion of progress. You might earn 100.000 of currency-1, but currency-1 is almost useless. Only the real-money-currency, currency-2, gets the player the really good items. Of course, these items only help the player to get more currency-1, so the designers are relying on the player paying even more for even more faux-progress.
Free Fire has a free currency called Coins, you get coins for playing, but it also has diamonds, which is a paid currency.
Or impossible.
Example: Pickcrafter has picks, which you get by mining and idling with PPS items, and Runic, which can ONLY be obtained at the start of the game or by paying.
Dragon City in a nutshell, except you can also use currency 2 to get currency 1. I still have *hundreds* of gems because I'm a crazy saver lol
Maybe it's to make the lack of the second currency more frustrating, while also amounting to "progress" that the player doesn't want to lose by giving up playing

l2r2 Yes, every single .io game they’ve ever made has bots with pre-written names. The easiest way to tell it’s a bot is by turning off WiFi for the app and keeping track of who’s who and the repetitive patterns they make.

In the early days of smart phones, mobile games used to be creative and fun games which utilised the unique abilities of smart phones over other gaming systems such as the touch screen and tilt controls. Now they're almost all just clones of clash of clans and the like - games which I've never found fun.
I miss the games which cost a few dollars and you can play them uninterrupted from there onwards.

Originality, creativity, and innovation is almost dead because of these games since they're only after one thing: money, money and money. I hope there are not to many good devs with your mindset because in my opinion the mobile plattform is excellent for tightly designed games. just look at the ones made by nitrome for example. sure it can be hard to monetize ethically and be successfull at the same time but i think the best way to go about it is to advertise and give the option of turning ads off with a one time purchase.

This is so sad that its true, Ive recently released my first mobile game with a few other people (a 3d-tower defense), and we made it pay-up-front and get everything included, no in-app purchases at all. That for some reason resulted in people that commented on our trailer to make the game F2P etc...

Mobile gaming has hit a new low if people want their games to be P2W. Or, They haven't actually hit a new low, because that would require them to be good first. But It seems like mobile games will forever be for the Cassuals. Because that's who's going to buy the game.

Please, please, please, DON'T agree to do that. You did the very right thing to do there. I'm extremely tired and frustrated of looking for a good mobile game that I have to pay for (I hate F2P games because I can't stand P2W, or microtransactions all together), and even when I find one, most of the time they even include microtransactions! T_T
I've mostly seen games that were also released on Steam, but for some reason, only the mobile versions have microtransactions. Two examples I can think of are Plague Inc. and Beat Hazard. So please, don't do it :( remain as you are, paying up front for everything and no microtransactions. People need to stop thinking that because it is on the App store or Google Play, it *has* to be free.
If you don't mind, please tell me which game it is. As I just stated, I want games that must be purchased but have no microtransactions or anything (like, you know... a regular same as ever videogame), and I actually love tower defense games ;D

Not from "today" tho, these issues are VEEEEERY old in mobile game market, if anything, they started to become slowly better in the last half-decade. Japanese gacha games which are infamous for being very greedy started to become more free2play friendly, something that no one ever thought possible a decade ago

we need to hear this kind of thing, so we can't be fooled by mobile games anymore. and if you want this to change, the developers must watch this video, so they'll know that people know the truth about their games, and probably a large number of people will stop playing the game because they know it's not worth play a pay 2 win game

Try taking the entire child
Step 1: Include repetitive gameplay that only lasts the player 5 minutes before getting super boring.
Step 2: Show the player ATLEAST 30 unskippable ads every hour. Oh, and make sure to ad a overly-expensive "remove ads" option that people will be forced to buy if they want to even play the game.
Step 3: Make sure the game can't run without Internet, so people wouldn't turn off the Internet to avoid ads.
Step 4: Buy ads for your game on every website there ever was.
Step 5: Make sure your ad has "99% OF PLAYERS CAN'T BEAT THIS" with footage of a woman (IMPORTANT) playing the game but failing horrendously, even though its the first and easiest level of the game.

also, by giving the users a little bit of 'the (paid) game currency' as a reward for voluntarely watching an ad, they will use that amount of currency to 'feel the taste' of being premium and now you can trick their minds into buying more currency so that they can still get the benefits of having the ingame currency. ads + paid currency = instant profit

Doesn't need to be ads, just give them say, 1 (or more depending on prices) gem (premium currency) every level up or quest or etc just to let them taste the same without making them watch ads, can always add ads anyway.
Meh, adding the ads = gems etc makes me less likely to bitch about having them. I usually turn data off not to get them before opening the app (some ads take a lot of data)
I like the system where games have a free, demo version (with reduced features) and a paid, "full" version. That way, one time pays for it all, and you get to try the game first (and play that version to your hearts content). So if you really like that game, you can buy the full version.

@@SKtheMage not only that, but through the modded apk and game guardian, you can even add as much currency as you like. But, some server based games don't work with game guardian like Clash Of Clans as their data is stored outside the device. I did this on CSR Racing 2 and bought every single car in the game and the boss cars! I am sure i spend more time with the modded app than the actual Play Store app which i used to play around 2 years ago. I got banned from CSR Racing 2 Online though.

Also, Pokémon go was so incredibly easy that a Free To Play player can do well in it without spending money on poke coins. But clash royale takes so much time to get enough items or cards to get better at the game. I rarely run into anyone that’s made it to 4000 trophies without spending anything.

well I doubt that, just look at games like League of Legends, the game is free and the gameplay really isn't giving you the feeling that it is pay to win (becuase it isn't, they mostly make their money from skins and other bundles). I am not negating the fact that this is still a game and may be seen as a waste of time ( it is actually pretty addictive, but what game isn't, right? so it's up to you to be responsible) but at least it is a pretty good overall game experience if you play for fun and is more enjoyable if you play with friends.

@@purpleice2343 dude, just no, buying a simgle console is WAY cheaper than buy a powerful computer. A lot of games that run smoothly on console need a very good computer to have the dame experience. I have a Xbox One for about 2 years, and it never had problems with CPU/GPU not handling the game well, while in my computer that was about the same price, i can only play Fortnite on super low graphics, hell even CS:GO needs to be on low to run at 60 FPS.

I'm afraid you've failed to bring your point across. I cannot really feel the "sarcasm" in your voice, and the points you make are valid. I liked the video, but you convinced me that these are, indeed, good strategies to use whilst making a game, and not the opposite.
The point is that they are good strategies for making money but not for making the player happy. The purpose of the video is basically to raise awareness of what they are doing to make people less susceptible to their tactics.

If you want free games on smartphone without P2W you have to download an emulator and play NES games for example. Or root your phone and use hacks to get those gems/stars/coins etc. You sacrifice your money or become a pirate.
