Requiring 4 year degrees for some jobs makes sense, but way too many employers are requiring them for jobs most competent people could do just fine without a 4 year degree. There needs to be a general work skills certification that people can get after high school. The courses should be designed so that upon completion of the program, the certification holder has the specific workplace skills that employers keep saying prospective employees don't have. That certification won't require 4 years of courses because most jobs aren't that hard to get good at quickly if you have a basic level of competence. For employment purposes, there's a middle ground to be found somewhere between high school diploma and 4 year degree. It could be something like a 1 or 2 year program that focuses solely on general workplace skills for the current job market. Kids today are not getting 4 year degrees for the sake of education; they are getting them because they want a decent paying job and lazy employers won't even look at a resume that doesn't mention a 4 year degree. Employers need to figure out a different way to screen for competence (without being discriminatory) because they are going to keep getting more and more applicants with 4 year degrees. Having a 4 year degree doesn't mean the graduate knows anything about how to handle themselves in the workplace and be a good employee. Just because a 35 year old has a 4 year degree they earned 13 years ago doesn't mean that person is automatically more qualified for a position now than someone without a degree who has just as much or more of the work experience required for the position.

I'm 42 and self-employed and do pretty darn well(6 figures sallary) I do not have a college degree. I have always looked down on those who went off to college because first off how incredibly insufferably arrogant they are despite being so obviously ignorant of reality; and yet if you look at them and the way they live their lives, they are insanely dependent on the system and toxicly dependent on their parents in a very unhealthy manner. Most college students that I have met have virtually note independent skills Whatsoever. Most college educated people come across to me as double speaking, emotionally imature, self absorbed vampires, trying to run a sleezy blood bank while are trying to convince people with hemophilia to donate blood. I do not hire people with college degrees because I find people who grew up on the street, or on a farm, or just generally went to the school of hard knocks, have far superior situational awareness, workplace independence, initiative, deductive reasoning, and critical thinking skills, which makes them vastly supior employees. Universities don't teach people how to think, they teach people what to think, they teach people to obey, to be obiedant lambs to the slaughter. Its rather sad really.

It's crazy.. my cousin done the college thing, ended up back in school after landing in retail for a bit. He's doing well but i dropped out, bad family situation, got my ged and went to work. I was able to bounce around a bit and find my thing. Now I'm a machinist and running a cnc machine. We do about the same in terms of money. I got to live, get on the job training and no debt. Funy thing, i don't know any machinists outside of work. Tells me there's not many of us. Yes, i know there are schools for my skills but they're not required diplomas at this point in time. I'm the trainer and fixer when they get a new guy in and they mess up. I would argue that's just as valid as a piece of expensive paper.

Agreed. Vocational and technical training/jobs have been ignored in favor of attaining college degrees and "white collar" work. Now there is a GLUT of college educated people inI the workforce, and a shortage of workers in trade and technical jobs. Many in GenZ are gravitating towards those trade/technical fields after watching younger Millennials with college degrees struggle to find jobs, and deal with overwhelming student loan debt. The paradigm is shifting......

Of the 32% that require a college education 75% could be done with common sense and done better. Our recent college grad says that if we put three more steps in a two step job it will be faster. Still hasn't figured out why we have been on OT since he got here. Those of us with no or unfinished college education are smart enough to know as long as this moron is here we are making more money. The company ? Not so much but it is a college education running the place so . . . A college education also thinks it knows what you are searching for when you type one ( 1 ) character in the search box . . . They are calling it AI now a days. Have some fun, put 0 (zero ) in the search box and look at what a college education can do for you. Steal your common sense.

With all due respect, I think this is like the elephant in the room that most people with enough thought know not to talk about. Its a situation of just because you cant doesnt mean you should kind of thing. The problems and issues that arise out of targeting and calling out inconsistencies with policies, especially when youre a democratically aligned political platform, discussing regions in the world we know are different, is only gonna invite instability and problems. There are subtle ways to do things and this is not it.

I was incredibly annoyed after listening to the Hobbit when I tried to start The Fellowship of the Ring. I had no idea there was a 15 hour limit until it stopped me after chapter 3. A cursory math equation made me realize it would take several months to finish The Fellowship of the Ring alone without purchasing multiple 10-hour add-ons. I then decided shortly after that I would never waste my time with audiobooks on Spotify again.

This is a superficial sophistry, equating McDonald's with capitalism and associating bribery with capitalism. It is used to mock China's departure from the socialist path. However, the most crucial point is that socialism has never been about appearances; its core lies in directing the flow of social wealth through national credit while maintaining a channel for the working class to extract value from the capitalist class. From this perspective, the economic conditions of a socialist country cannot be described using capitalist narratives. The so-called political egg is still a façade. China emphasizes class struggle as the driving force of social progress, with the proletariat being a 'self-mate class', whose political dividends are reflected in the struggle of social contradictions. The freedom measured by Western values is about expressing opinions and protesting, which is superficial, wrapping the core contradictions in a poissoning pancake to distribute to people to quell their hunger, and to trigger the contradictary in public level. In contrast, the proletarian struggle is spontaneous, presenting contradictions as political confrontations at higher hierarchies to reform the patterns of evolution, thereby sparing the masses from more severe impacts. Thus, from an Eastern narrative perspective, this is more genuine freedom.

Went to college from high school, realized I did not like college. End up going to hvac, plumbing, automation. I found that i actually like hvac and electrical. Went to college to learn the fundamentals of hvac and electrical. Left college after 2 years for the trade and continued working for 12 more years in the trade. Saved money and bought into a business. Using everything I have learned and taught myself to do my best building this business with partners. Now I hire 20 people that did not go to college and hustle. Businesses want people that will work their hearts out for a purpose. What ever that purpose may be does not matter. But, the purpose is what drives us. I hire because I want to provide a service to a customer while helping grow my employee's knowledge. I love to learn and teach.
