Always keep a discerning eye when it comes to Western media portrayals of black countries, especially Haiti, a country they have been hating and trying to break for over 2 centuries now. The Western gaze on black lives is never balanced. White media portrayed Africa in a similar way for decades too, so it should be no surprise. That's why it's so important for black people to take control of their own narrative.

I'm Black American/Jamaican and growing up in South Florida I always admired & respected the Haitians. They shown nothing but love towards me and treated me like family. Am half Bahamian and half Jamaican living in the Bahamas 🇧🇸. From i was younger even in school i was defending Haitians from verbal abuse in the Bahamas. My mother is Jamaican so i was defending Jamaicans too from the same. Not all Bahamians dislike Haitians in fact the rastafari community always treat our Haitian sisters and brothers equally. I am a rastafari and we love and respect all black Afrikans at home in the Caribbean and on the continent.

The right spelling Labadie is very close to how Ghanaians named their beach. Americans came up with the spelling Labadee to make it easier for them to pronounce. A lot of tourists from the US visit this location with Royal Caribbean cruise. By the way, we have a well-known appetizer in Haiti by the name of Accra.
