  • Post study work visa (graduate route) explained by immigration law firm! Post graduate work permit is going live on 1st July 2021 in the UK, you can apply for PSW visa (graduate route) provided you meet the eligibility criteria. Graduate immigration route is a great option for international students in the UK, so in this video Yash Dubal answers your most commonly asked questions on Post Study Work visa or Graduate Route visa.
    UPDATE
It has been confirmed in the policy guidance that if a migrant was previously granted leave under the Tier 1 Post Study Work route, this would NOT prevent them from applying for leave under the Graduate route.

@@MindTheGrad I don’t think the students who taken “post study visa” (that was into effect until 2012) will not be eligible for “graduate route visa”. Graduate route visa is a completely new visa and that no relation whatsoever with the post study work visa. On the guidelines for “graduate route” visa, it is mentioned that graduate route visa can’t be taken more than once. However, this shouldn’t be confused with “post study work visa” as both the visas are completely different. Infact, post study work visa was under Tier 1 category. Kindly recheck this point with Yash. Thanks!

Hey Valeria, the graduate route, is it for two years or up to two years? Like it is here in Ireland, once you complete your studies, first you get a one-year post-study visa to find the job and if you fail to find a job within this one year then, you have to mention the ‘reason’ and the final decision is on the immigration department to decide whether they want to extend the visa of the applicants for another year or not. Is it like this in the United Kingdom too? Or is it for two years without any catch? If you can reply it will be a great help!!

The Graduate Route Guidance page 5 confirms 'If a student has previously been granted permission on the Tier 1 (Post-study work) route, International Graduate Scheme (IGS) or the Future Talent Working in Scotland Scheme, this will not prevent them from meeting the validation requirements of the Graduate route. If a student has previously been granted permission on one of these routes, the student will need to successfully complete a new eligible qualification at a Higher Education Provider with a track record of compliance and hold valid permission as a student once the route is introduced, they cannot rely on a previous qualification obtained or previous leave as a Student or under Tier 4 to access the route.'

I am about to graduate from the University but still did not pay the tuition fee in full, 4000 Pounds remained which I will pay after graduation as agreed with the Univerity, however, I will not receive my certificate until I settle all the tuition fees. With this situation can I still apply for Postgraduate visa since my certificate is with the University until I settle my fee to the school. Thanks

Hey, do I need a BRP when I apply for this route, because I was not provided one when I got my student visa. This is because I applied for a visa vignette transfer on my UK visa, as I was unable to travel because of covid within 90 days period that one should enter in the country. So, when I contacted UK immigration, they said that they did not give me a BRP because my visa is expiring in less than 6 months, and is considered a short term, which resulted in me not receiving a BRP. But, I am worried that this might have a effect when I apply for this route? Please help me out to understand if this is a problem?

I second this, got the same question as you but I can't find any relevant info on either website or this video. And on official website it doesn’t specifically mention that this is not allowed. But it also doesn’t say that this is allowed either.
Say if I graduate with a Bachelor, applying for PSW for the sake of looking for jobs, then I changed my mind later on and wanna do some further studies after my PSW visa expires, is it still allowed?
Same thing applies to someone who graduates with a Master, and wanna do a Phd after looking for jobs for a while.
To summarise, does Bachelor + PSW + Master or Master + PSW + Phd feasible? Also does a T4 student visa after PSW still allowed?
Hopefully this will eventually get clarified, I do need a confirmation!

If I started study Next September 2021 the graduate route visa will be exciting and after I graduate i can apply for it? Right?
The Home office statement mentioned this will help the Education sector to have 600,000 international students, so that means it will start 1st of July 2021 and remain as feature for next year graduate. Am I right with my conclusion?

It looks like you can’t add new dependents on this visa, only dependents you already had on your students visa. In the description of the video I have a link to the gov.uk website that explains this

Hello, since I am now a lawyer, I can’t confirm this for sure, perhaps you can check with your university.

But as Yash said, you need a student status on the date of application, so you might be eligible

    Hi,
I came to UK on student visa , computer science with placement course 2 years of student , can I change now for one year course , if I change the course from placement to without placement do I still eligible for psw , becoz my BRP and CAS course also changes..

    • @Sharan.
      @Sharan. Před 3 lety

Normally you must have completed this course during your current period of Tier 4 or Student permission and it must be the same course for which your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) was assigned. There are some exceptions:
If your CAS was assigned for an integrated programme, and you successfully completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree as part of that programme, you can use that degree as the relevant qualification. This is only for degrees, not for other types of course.
If you were allowed to switch to a different course without applying for new Tier 4 or Student permission, you can use that new course as the relevant qualification.
If the course provider changed the name of your course without changing the content, or if they added an assessed work placement or study abroad programme, this does not stop you meeting the qualification requirement
If your last period of Tier 4 or Student permission was granted to work as a Student Union Sabbatical Officer, it is fine if the relevant qualification was gained during your period of Student or Tier 4 permission immediately

I have availed PSW in 2007-2009 and after completion of the visa, I left the UK. Thus, I want to know if do another Masters from the UK will I be eligible for the new Graduate Route. Or are there any restrictions on the graduates who previously availed post-graduate work schemes like PSW/ Fresh Talent Initiative by the Scottish government or another such type of schemes?
