- Professor Burp's Bubbleworks was an indoor boat ride that opened in 1990 at Chessington World of Adventures Resort. Originally the ride took park guests through scenes of a comical factory, originally producing fizzy pop, before a sponsorship deal in 2006 resulted in the factory theme changing to Imperial Leather. In 2014 the sponsorship was removed, however the ride was not changed back to how it was prior to the 2006 refurbishment.
Join us in our vlog from September 6th 2016, the last operating day of this iconic ride, a day to be remembered by fans of the Bubbleworks. Throughout the vlog we share our memories of this fantastic dark ride along with discussing the future of both the ride system and the fountain finale!
A special thank you to OwenEvansMusic for re-creating the soundtrack of Bubbleworks on his piano, this can be heard towards the end of our vlog. The original music to the ride was scored by Graham Smart, who was also responsible for many other ride soundtracks during the 90's.

This was my first ever ride and im so sad to let it go glad its so iconic in many ways
That is the best flog of all of you guys nice to see you again
I remember riding the bubble works many times, despite being a simple water ride, the iconic music and fountains really made it one of the most memorable ones, and i think i even remember going one time and the fountains were also off, so when you guys were singing "where are the fountains?" and "goodbye fountains" I felt a warm fuzzy feeling inside, i will miss this ride, but fortunately you made this video with a lot of passion and enthusiasm for an iconic ride.
Watching this is like being on the ride with a bunch of strangers, but a bunch of strangers who know how to have fun and have their own fountain theme song and i would be proud to sing it alongside you!
I am like going to miss this ride so much the memories of the first day of the ride :(
Absolutely fantastic vlog, thank you for creating it. Unfortunately I couldn't make it for the final day, but it did look both fun and emotional. Also, well done to Owen for creating that piece at the end, after hearing the full version I have to say it was very well made! Finally, for the last time - Juice + Gas = Pop. ByeByeBubbleworks, 1990 - 2016
We're glad that you enjoyed our vlog from the final day!
Safe to say I think Alex was definitely Professor Burp there as he knew what he was doing and seemed to fit the character well.
It makes me extremely sad that this classic ride has now closed forever as the ride has been a core part of my life and though whatever replaces may be good, it probably won't have the same connection as the Bubbleworks.
That ending though really pulled at my heartstrings to a level I've never experienced after watching your Vlogs.
We're glad that you enjoyed our commemorative vlog to this iconic attraction!
Oh my God. I didn't know. So sad right now, always one of my favourite rides at Chessington. RIP Bubbleworks, you will be sorely missed by all who have been to Chessington 😭😢
Love coming back every so often to watch this vlog. So many good memories!
Professor Burp's Bubbleworks look like the 6th doctor who collin baker
5 years later the last 2-3 minutes still get me
Theme Park Worldwide it sounded like u was gonna cry at the end and when saw ur face at the end it made me cry :(
I really miss that music! This gave me so much memories. I was there and I cried.
Juice + gas =pop 😂😂😂 absolutely loved this vlog
Thank you!
Was an emotional day all round, glad my daughter got to ride it before it closed. Apologies if I made you jump in the donut que!
It was great to see you!
never been on it and really wish I had!! got all emotional watching this! great send off for the ride, great job guys loved it!!
Who is here after hearing an 'Adward Winning' podcast? You know.....
This feels just as sad watching this 5 years later after watching this for the first time😭
I'm Basically The One That Will Miss The Bubbleworks. :'( The ride just has lots of charm and I've grown to be Overly Obsessed With it.. I Was Devestated As Soon as I Heard The News.😓😭 It's just so sad. I Won't Forget This ride. But I Know everyone will only remember Professor Burp.. :'(
Such a good ride 💞 I will miss it so much. It was my childhood ride apart from Its A Small World at Disneyland Paris. Will forever be my favorite classic 💕
The new ride would probably be called Gruffaloworks
Raihannn it’s gruffalo river ride but you basically predicted the future
Same good job
Great rename for bubbleworks.
Did you retheme the ride? You can predict the future so please tell me when I will live a good life
i loved this ride ! when i was younger i use to go on it lots but its now changed to the grofflo
What a wonderful tribute to an amazing ride! Made me laugh and made me cry. Thanks for sharing the day with us all!
Thank you for watching Helen!
I confess that i cried a few times watching this. I missed out on riding on closing day as my daughter couldn't face it, and was so sad even just sitting at home. She is a huge fan and couldn't stop crying!! Most of the local primary schools had inset days which is why the park was so busy. I first rode the Bubbleworks back in 1990 about a week after it opened. It holds a huge amount of fond memories for me. I'll always remember smuggling hot chocolate on with my sister one day when it was cold and wet outside. Most of all it's memories of riding with my Mum, who I sadly lost almost 9 years ago. She loved the Bubbleworks, I really wish she had lived long enough to ride it with my kids. It was a big part of my childhood in it's original incarnation, and of my children's in it's final version. I can't believe it's gone! As an enthusiast, it's a massive loss of a really iconic ride. John Wardley and all involved in the creation of the original deserve much admiration for what they achieved. Let's hope that the replacement ride will live up to the legend of what came before it!
We're glad you enjoyed the Vlog! Thank you for the fantastic comment!
=[ nearly made me cry
Sad it had to close, brilliant ride. Great vid Shawn. Keep Smiling!
This was a great ride! It was really cool, and the whole thing was awesome.
I had always wanted to ride this attraction... and now it is gone. This year has not been a good year for me in terms of rides that I had always wanted to ride. Tower of Terror at DCA is closing, and even though I use to live in California, I moved before I was tall enough. Now I will never be able to ride Bubbleworks 😢
Well, I'll miss Bubbleworks. Not this version. The original.
Most amazing and sad vlog ever. So sad. I first rode on this when I was about 8 back in the late 90's. such good memories as this was one of the first rides I ever went on at a theme park. Thanks for an excellent vlog.
Thank you for watching Jack!
My favourite memory of the bubble works was me and my friends back in 93 buying giant inflatable baseball bats and waving them around in the fountain area and getting absolutely soaked.
The first time I went on bubbleworks was in 2014 and it was also my first time at chessington . And I've got to have been on it at least 30 times in the last 2 years and when chessington posted on instagram that it was closing I honestly nearly cried. WHERE ARE THE FOUNTAINS.
Can’t believe I was 8 when this ride closed time flies
Even though my first ever ride on the bubble works was on the 1st of April 2016, I still love it!!! It might not be as special to me as it is to some others but I still feel quite sad to see it go, as I know so many people did have memories on this ride. Let's just hope that they don't mess up the retheme!!!
A great family ride which hopefully will still be fun after it's re-theme (keep the fountains). Was so glad that my kids didn't go back to school till the day after which meant we could get a couple of rides on Bubbleworks in on it's last day. Also good to see I'm not the only person to stick their head in the fountains.
WTF!
This ride was almost synonymous with Chessington. I remember going on this as a child and thinking it was the most magical thing I have ever experienced.
The only good thing that could come of this would be Alton Towers taking bubble works to use the currently dead Charlie and the chocolate factory ride.
Bubble works is the only ride of its type that I like and it will be dearly missed :(
it’s themed around gruffalo
Hey, great vlog. I was upset not to be able to go to this last day of such an iconic ride, but you made me feel like I was there with you.
😢😢😢😢😭😭😭 NO NOT BUBBLEWORKS!! NOT THE LITTLE DUCKIES!! NOT THE CUTE LITTLE BUBBLEWORKERS!! :'( IT Will be missed.
Yes bubble works! Yes the little ducks! Yes the fountains!!!
:'( Poor Ducks.. Where Are They Now?
Poor ducks!
#MerlinHateDucks
I know. Merlin are Evil For Killing The Ducks😭
Such an iconic ride at Chessington. Loved riding it in the 90's when I was young and I am glad that my son has memories of riding it last year. The music was great and the fountain scene is one of the best on any dark ride.
Great video TPW to celebrate the end of an legendary ride. #Goodbyethefountains
Thank you, we're glad that you like our tribute
so sad I went on it when it opened and when imperial Leather took over.i took my daughter when she was one years old.very sad
I've never been on this ride, never even been in this park, but the end of this video made me tear up nontheless.
What a great way to say goodbye to an iconic ride like this though, with a celebration and a silly professor :)
Definitely A Great Farewell To The Factory. :')
Bubble Works RIP 2023 even though I've never experienced it. I wish I could have ridden it back in 2016.
I miss the bubble works it was my first ride I when I was small
Been waiting for this vlog! Cant wait 😆
The first time I ever rode this was the summer of 2009. It was 30 degrees centigrade and the fountains at the end cooled us down which made it a family favourite! I am so sad to see it go and the music and all the freaking ducks and the souvenirs in the shop after! I will miss it terribly as we went last year in summer and it was the last thing we went on but it broke down. We never got to see the fountains one last time :(
I'm 32 and grew up with this too. It was amazing the effort they put into the ride in its early days. Sad.
Rip. This was my childhood ride!!!!!
It closed on my birthday 😭 first rode it in 2006
I wish they'd bring this back! I loved the ride
This was literally my childhood until the age of 10. I forgot all about it until I saw the name and i remembered the smell. I only just found out it was gone.
This Has Set Some Soapy Tears To My Eyes.. :'( Man, I Can't Believe The Factory's Now... GONE. Like Seriously, I'm One of The Little Ducks Of The Factory. It Will Rest Peacefully..
Pls Give Me Bread. ;)

Just been such a good ride will really miss it 😢
Won't we all!
I will, defenetley.
The original ride. Not Imperial Leather's disaster.
This Ride The Professor Burp's Bubbleworks Boat Ride Was Fantastic. Thanks Theme Park Worldwide Mate. X
It Opened Back In 1990 Long Side Vampire The Roller Coaster.
I'm gonna miss it so much.. Especially the duckies and the fountains😓
I have been growing up with this ride for 9 years now.I hate to see this ride go but it will always have a special place in my heart
#wherearethefountains

The Bubbleworks At Chessington World Of Adventures Was Opened In 1990. Thanks Theme Park Worldwide Mate. X
Thanks for letting me and my dad spending that sad day with you guys. See you at Thorpe park
See you at the event!
Excellent video shawn your best one yet, so entertaining as always I unfortunately didn't get to ride it, but i can see why its such an iconic ride. Great coverage on the last day and the staff did well from the video to keep everyone spirits up, keep up the great work shawn
Thank you!
Fantastic vlog. When you talked about how you felt on Duel when it was opened. At 25:04 was the same reaction I had for Bubbleworks back in 2006. Grew up with the original in 2005 and to see the re-theme was exactly like you at 25:04. Then again, I moved on. Hopefully this (Gruffalo) new ride would be a great replacement for the park.
I went on second last day of bubble works is my favorite ride
That Brummy accent from Martin is gold!
*_GOOD BYEEEEEEE FOUNTAAAAAAIIIIIIIINNSSSS_* *_GOOD BYE FOUNTAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIINS_*
as you said at the start, no one wanted it to happen. I have only been going for about 3 years but I have so many memories. I am really upset that I couldn't go on the final closing day because I was at school. This is a really fun video with Proffesor Burp in. I can't wait to see the new ride in March.
So sad but I never got to ride it it looked a brilliant ride and great vlog Shawn
This channel is my inspiration every vid cheers me up when I'm down thanks for the vids themeparkworldwide
what A great send off!!!! cheers shawn
Good vlog Shawn - my first ever ride on Bubbleworks was back in July 2016 and although it was my one and only ride on this magical dark ride, it made me think back to the days where Toyland Tours had a special effect on me. It was a unique feeling that I'll never forget. I felt like a child again. However I am looking forward to seeing what the re-theme will be for 2017! I for one will definitely give the re-theme a chance!
We look forward to seeing what the park have planned for the ride
Watching this almost makes me wanna cry 😢 I wish they would bring it back!!!
I've Been On The Professor Burp's Bubbleworks Boat Ride At Chessington World Of Adventures Back In July 2007. Thanks Theme Park Worldwide Mate. X
Awww so upsetting wish chessington would bring it back love you loads bubbleworks
i live in belgium and i have only done one theme park in the UK so far, but i am soooo happy that i have done bubble works. I even bought a set of 6 mugs from the park and i have one with bubble works on it.
So happy they kept most of the fountains
Aw bubble works I ride this once when I was younger I wish I ride it more if only they bring bubble works back again :( X
I first rode bubbleworks in 2012
It wasn't just John Wardley who worked on this attraction you know. What about people like Andrew Offiler who worked on the drawings or Keith Sparks who pretty much was the main man in the design and construction of this classic. Or the project director, Dan Longely who worked on technical things like the fountains.
They all did a fantastic job with this attraction, it will be missed!
I think you'd like this. It's a selection of independent documentaries about British dark rides. They're all worth a watch! vimeo.com/channels/darkrides
An amazing Vlog , Bubble works was such a good ride Its very sad R.I.P But Maybe come back i had good times on that
8:32 That was both hilarious and moving. Great vlog, I'm happy this ride is going out with a bang.
Chessington's video on the other hand, did the most underwhelming finale to a classic ride of all time on Facebook.
So lucky I managed to get on it in August for the first and last time
my favorite memory of bubbleworks is from 1990, the only time I have been on it aged 10 (also only ride on vampire was same day). I got totally soaked. As we went down the drop to the fountains I was sat at the front. I tried to avoid the splash by ducking. I bent right forward and the water came right over right on my back. Coming off the ride the sight of me dripping caused a few concerned looks in the queue
Thanks for sharing your Bubbleworks memory!
Shawn I never got to ride it but bath time looks the best
Although I have never experienced this iconic ride (cause I live in The Netherlands), I think it's sad that it is now closed. #ByeByeFountains.
I loved the last song at the end
Shame that ride has closed my familys favourite always made us happy 🦄😊🐥
So sad to see it go, RIP bubbleworks

My favourite memory was whith my antie dwanie and my old friends maltilda amd ava
i love going to every theme parks because i could go on some rides
The fountains are iconic.
My boyfriend used to operate this ride and he really hates the song LOL. And I loved this ride, good fun :)
Same with professor burp’s bubbleworks too 100 💯 percent agree with you guys for sure.
Your videos are really funny and good content, keep up the great work👍🏾
Thank you!
My memory of the ride was 2002 the smell of fizzy pop. I've been told by an anonymous source that somewhere will be an original themed dark ride to do with whacky sweets
I agree with you on bubbleworks when it was replaced by imperial leather it’s also in my heart ❤ too.
