This man single-handedly turned the phrase "we learn new things everyday" into an understatement.
The amount of information you give in this video is crazy good, I'm glad I randomly found it. I appreciate your help!
Glad you enjoyed it!
BRO....... You're the man. I was praying to learn about the FREEZE track thing so I can use the Melodyne clips and drag them around after editing... FREAKING LIFE SAVER. Please ask someone to hug you, and pretend it's from me.
This is by far the best vocal processing tutorial out there. Lot of gems dropped in which is already saving me tons of time! Great work! ❤
I spent a few hours trying to find all the different information mentioned in this video then I found this video with everything I was looking for in one. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this. This is going to help me tremendously with releasing my first EP. The learning curve has been fun but a little stressful sometimes 😅
love this man, really well done and very informative!
Great video Julian, really helpful and you explain the way the sounds work in terms of space so well. I just got melodyne and this video was so much better than a lot I tried watching before.
I'm glad you found it helpful!
@15:52 Yes, Bbm (A#m if you insist) is the _relative minor_ of C#, which means they use the same notes, but start on different roots. The relative minor is always the 6th of it's major scale.
Thank you man great video!
This is a GREAT video - thanks for the info!
Great tips. Thank you 👍
Thank you Sir.
This was a huge help! Thank you thnak you. If it helps, I like to anchor my warping by placing a marker at the end of the sample and typically inserting warp points around the center of two other points (wherever needs broad-stroke fixing). It's the best way I can find to maintain the humanity in the groove while not getting more specific with the markers than you might need to, working linearly. No right way, but as a singer who also tidies up drums, I've screwed up many a groove in my time by getting a little trigger happy warping haha.
Bro you are way to good to be going down this path.
what path is that? haha
Hey I really appreciated your info and your explanations! Very informative. Tho coming from a classical low brass background, making the vocal be in a minor (meaning 7 sharps in the key) was super silly. At least for me. Much easier to think it in an easier key to work with (like b flat minor). If I were to see 7 sharps in a key signature playing a low brass instrument, I would have the worse migraine ever and just think the key as b flat minor and transpose
Great video, thanks for being so generous with your knowledge! Is Ableton complex pro timing adjustment better than Melodyne's timing adjustment (as far as artifacts and unwanted sounds)? I cant find an answer to this anwhere.
Hey Julian! Amazing video and useful info you've shared! May I ask, how you use SoundID Reference (Sonarworks)? Saw it as your output device in the Live preferences. Why is this? Why not using the UAD as output and use the Reference plug-in? Thank you in advance.
Hi Julian. Great Video. I am just a beginner, so your video helped me a lot. A quick question, do you know/use any plugin to cut off the room echo? I might be entirely wrong, but the recording you used in this video has a little room echo, or at least to my ears, it sounds like it. My room, where I record, is not professionally acoustically treated, so even if I try to avoid noise/reverb as much as possible, there is always a little echo in my vocal recordings. I would appreciate it if you could suggest some plugins to remove/reduce those echos. Thanks
There's a plugin from Waves called "CLARITY Vx" that u could use when u record vocals if your room isn't acoustictly treated ! If you using and APOLLO interface u could use the "C-SUITE C VOX" it's also good :)
Reaper's ARA implementation is solid, Ableton has none. However, with a lot of vocal recording backup/saves take a long time because of Melodyne. I like your record/edit/freeze/save process. I ended up doing that on Reaper even with the ARA. FYI, I tried the "melodyne" as editor with replace and it crashed, plus, you can't hear the audio in context, what's the point? This is the best video so far on Melodyne in Ableton.
Cool. Transfer is such a painful process however. It's better to go to Ableton>Preferences>File Folder>Sample Editor and set that to point to Melodyne (for me in Windows it's C:/Program Files/Celemony/Melodyne 5/Melodyne.exe), then when you double click the audio clip, you can just click the Edit button on the bottom left of the Audio tab that comes up on the double click.
i agree, "transfer" function is so un-necessary! I m wondering though: When i use the edit button and Melodyne opens the sample i have two problems. Edit: fixed the problems. Had to choose "replace" as saving method, to replace the Ableton-Sample-File. The only thing which is a bit annoying is that melodyne asks to save the mlp file, when closing the editor - which i don't wanna do everytime.
Dude, I've never seen somebody work so hard to warp a vocal. Half of your problem is you double click the hash marks to turn them to a yellow block before you move them if you move them while they're Gray everything moves on the other side of it in accordance with where you're trying to place it when you double click it and put it as a yellow marker it's only warping up until that marker and everything ladder to that marker is still the same. Next time just move the hash mark and once that hash mark seems on time then double click it and make it yellow. Brutal brutal brutal no I'm not sure if I want to watch the rest of the video haha
Hi. Thanks for this very good video. I`m using Ableton on my PC running on an i7 Acer with 32GB memory. My son and I have tried altering the sample rate and other parameters but suffer a lot of clicking. We have good cable and a half-decent microphone through a Focusrite interface recording mainly vocals or guitar. Is there a piece of hardware that can help, do you think? Or, are there settings that I might`ve missed? Thanks for any help.
You will run into clicking if you have the buffer size set too low! raising it will give you latency, but generally latency is better than artifacts.
@@JulianGrayMedia That`s helpful. Thank you for taking the time to reply
great content, very informative ! please if possible decrease the size of that footer, it's taking like 1/3 of the screen
Unfortunately can't do that as I record on an ultrawide monitor. i'm filling blank space in a 1080p canvas.
Is the reason for the vocal being so loud as you mention at 35 mins 12 secs not because you have 'makeup' gain selected on the right hand side of the compressor?
the unlock link does not work
I dislike some of the effects you used but great tips and information!
Does Ableton have vocal pitch correction natively?
Hi, i'm trying to download your vocal chain but it isn't working. It made me making a Tone Den account with a subscription of 5 a month. Can you plaese help me and tell me what I'm doing wrong. Tx
Same here. He says its free but both options are locked unless you pay.
the link won't work
why do we need warp on when we do time correction of the vocals? cant we just drag them in the right place without warp? bc i dont want to change the tempo, i just want to change its place
you can turn off warp if your vocal is recorded at the same tempo as the track. I do this often to avoid any unnecessary artifacts
How to get this preset? You say that it's free but both sources ask me for a payment and it's locked unless I pay.
I'm unable to download ur preset vocal chains..??
Same here. He says its free but both options are locked unless you pay.
cant download the chain.......wtf
Hi! I am a high school teacher, I want to use launchpad to record my voice with a few effects (very few), and give students commands like: Be silent!, Seat down, Open your chromebooks, attention to the attendance... etc.. also i want to allow a designated button to my NINJA students... (that means the best students..) I have NOOOOOO IDEIA how to set all that up! I did record my voice but there are some weird effects that i dont want. and no idea on how to record on the designated keys on the launchpad HELLLPPP! please!!!! HAHAHA
Send me a message on instagram or send me an email! would love to help!
I just with it was full screen. Your patreon information is taking up too much space.
I use an ultrawide monitor, there's no way I can make it full screen.
this is not free why then did you say its free
It's free if you follow the second link :)
But I will say it was actually intended to be an open download on patreon, fixed it now!
Melodyne completely ruins the vocal for me personally. I get why it is used but, but it removes the humanity in the voice.
Ur boat analogy is really retsrted lmao ur definitely just learning music production i can tell ur new to this but u should really learn before u start doing tutorials because ur just clogging up youtube with more bad advice
Just learning and signed to the biggest labels in dance music :)
Weird comment.
Thanks for this video! This tutorial was literally what I was looking for 🫡
