    Good Video, I am Spanish Native Speaker, and the best Advice I can give to everybody is to learn the sounds of the letters (a,b,c...until z) and then, start to build words, It is easier to Learn Spanish, because you say what you See (for instance, you say "Hola" in the same way in which is written, without any other sound, just the sounds of each letter together), the spanish is Phonetic, and we don't use auxiliary Verbs (Do, will, would, etc), among others differences. Good Luck.
    Pd. I am learning to use your language, so, You all Forgive me If I made some mistakes, while I was writing this comment.

    OMG, love your video. Idk why i came here because i speak spanish, i'm from Venezuela but it's interesting how do you learn spanish. I'm learning english and i did the same thing that you did but in the opposite way. Literally, all the music that i've heard is in english, i see movies and shows, all in english. Idk if i get wrong on something but i wrote this without google translate. Saludos!

    • @jtixtlan
      @jtixtlan Před 8 lety +5

      You wrote very well without Google Translate! Another idea you could try is watching children's TV shows. They speak slowly and use correct, basic grammar. In English, always use capital letters for the words "I" and "Spanish" and "English." Your written English is better than some high school students who only speak English.

    Hola. Gracias. I am learning also. I'm using a combo of Rosetta Stone for Latin American Spanish, Pimsler CDs in the car, which are both great, and Duo Lingo, which isn't great but it is free and has a very convenient phone app. I supported my teenaged son through an online high school accredited Spanish 1 course. I listen to Ricardo Arjona, Jose Feliciano, Juanes, and others. When I hear a song I like, I translate it word by word. When I hear someone speaking Spanish in public, I ask them to have a brief conversation with me. No one has ever refused. I asked a guy who was getting gas next to me because I heard Spanish hip hop coming from his car stereo. He was so pleased that a middle class, middle aged American lady of Irish descent was trying to learn Latin American Spanish that he handed me a stack of his CDs! Another thing I'm adding now is I'm cruising through some novellas on Comcast to choose one that will be "mi novella."

Before it used to frustrate me not being able to communicate with people in my own country but now I see it's an edge to really learn the language. I grew up with Hispanic people, my friends and people I still consider family spoke Spanish. It will be really special when I'm fluent and can speak to them in their native language.

    9:57 This was a two year process for you to get to the point you were on September 2014. I think that's very important for me to remember. I'm about 1 year into my journey, and I've become more serious about learning Spanish as I've continued on this process. I want to keep on learning Spanish next year. That's great that you joined a Spanish speaking church and became so involved in it that you are a part of their youth ministries. "My class" right now for learning Spanish is reading El Camino a Cristo. I hope to finish that book early next year. Congratulations on getting that job! :)

      "El Camino a Cristo" is a great book and I'm glad you are using that to help. Thanks about the job :D And thanks for watching!!!

    You inspired me to go to a Spanish speaking church. I was so uncomfortable at first, but it was worth it!

      It is definitely a little uncomfortable at first but I'm glad you went for it and it worked out! As soon as you begin to make friends/connections, its such a great way to learn and maintain your language :)

    This was real helpful. I like the out of the box idea! I like the software I'm using (Fluenz) and it really helped me in Mexico. However, it sounds like your life was consumed with Spanish and you were committed.

    I tried a similar approach and it worked really well; but, the only problem for me was just consistency. If you are able to manage your discomfort and focus on having fun with the process of learning, then you can see progress and enjoy as you become more fluent!

    Great tips and very inspirational as well!! Being in the NY/NJ area, I know there is a lot of Latin folks there, but they have this bad habit of responding in English when you try to speak to them in Spanish lol..

    • @TaughtbyTonia
      @TaughtbyTonia  Před 9 lety +1

      Gritty Spanish Thanks! Truly appreciate it. And they do have a habit of responding in English. Haha. I try to go to the super authentic places where they people don't speak English. Or try to find communities of people who were not born here. American born Latinos will DEFINITELY only speak to you in English. ¡Buena suerte!

      +Gritty Spanish Thats very true. Its the same thing in Texas. If you dont speak Spanish well enough, they will respond to you in English.
