Suggestion for a future video would be a conversation for beginners because we need extra time to think of every word that is said. Gracias por todo señor!!!!

Hi! Your video popped up in my news feed. My whole agenda on my platform really encourages creating an immersive environment. You also had some great ideas I didn't even think of such as labeling things in the house in that target languages. I also forgot about using google in the target language. I've done that before when looking for things in German. That is such a great reminder, I'm going to start doing that. Do you have any favorite Spanish language podcasts? My favorite Spanish language podcast right now is Mujeres en Business. I will check out Hola soy German. You shared some really great information here!
I can't delete all the music off my iphone. That's like 32 GB of music! I just created a Spanish playlist, a German playlist and I'm working on a French playlist right now and just keep that going. Sometimes I need a break from language learning and I wanna just hear an 80s song. Lol.
I thought about going to a German speaking church but I went to a Spanish speaking church when I was younger (it was a faux pas on the inviter's part) and all I understood was "Gloria Jesus!", "Gracias a Dios" and random words. I felt horrible because I didn't understand much and that precluded me from that whole deer in headlights experience of going to a German speaking church and not understanding the old German or whatever version of German was used for the texts they are reading from. I may consider it.
I would love to feature you and your language learning journey on my platform (www.blackgirlslearnlanguages.co). Would you be interested? I believe you would inspire and motivate so many black language learners and enthusiasts.
Please let me know. I'd love to have you.
    xoxo,
    Language Bae

I am done with trying to memorize individual words through techniques like labeling things in your house. Although I have never done that before, I have use online flashcards before to learn individual words. But now I only use online flashcards occasionally.
I now like to use flashcards only to see how much i remember.

I watched about two of your videos and I had a feeling that you were Adventist and this video confirmed. I’ve finally found an Adventist Spanish speaking church and I’ve been so scared to go because of fear of just sitting there not knowing how to respond back. Thank you for your videos. I’m so happy I found you, your really what I would like to emulate within the next few years from being a teacher (ESL) to playing piano to being bilingual. You are inspirational and I admire your hard working spirit!

Yes, the initial interaction is scary and they may not be super friendly initially but force yourself to continue going. In the beginning, I barely spoke to anyone. I just would sit and smile and respond in short words to those who spoke to me. I even would speak in English :O to some of the members who knew English. But once I expressed I was practicing Spanish and wanted to learn, people were so supportive and would speak to me in Spanish! Thanks so much for the nice words and thanks for watching!

Your videos are very inspiring! I'm Caribbean American and come from a Pentecostal upbringing. There is a Spanish Pentecostal church a few doors down from my house, but I'm so nervous to walk in; especially by myself. At what level of Spanish did you feel comfortable enough to attend a Spanish speaking church? How fluent were you when you first started attending your church?

    • @TaughtbyTonia
      @TaughtbyTonia  Před 8 lety +2

I'm glad they have been inspiring for you! You are right. It is very nerve-racking; especially alone. I am unique in the sense that I am a very extraverted personality and willing to put myself in potentially awkward positions. LOL. So, I did walk in to the Spanish church for the first time all alone. But they were super friendly and even gave me my own personal translator (an 11 year old girl). I did not speak any Spanish when I started attending. However, I did understand about 40 - 50% of what was said to me in Spanish.
I would get headaches after service because my brain was working overtime to try to make sense of everything! Haha....And I was extremely quiet the first couple weekends. I just listened, smiled, and said, "Hola" and "Adios". And to be honest, I spoke in English to some of the members that spoke English in the beginning.
But as I became a familiar face and had been going there for a month or two, I became more comfortable and would try to speak in Spanish to some of the members. I would speak in simple, short sentences. For example, once I wanted to see the program for the service. I looked up how to say, "Can I see the program" (Puedo ver el programa?) in Spanish and worked up the courage to say it to the woman sitting next to me. She simply handed it to me and that was that.
I became more confident that I didn't have to think so hard about what I said but just say it. Soon, I formed friends and they helped by correcting my Spanish. They were so excited this "American" had immersed herself in their life that they did anything to encourage me to speak Spanish and get better at it :)

greetings from Russia!! waiting for more videos!! Tell about books, movies from spanish speaking countries. I ve been looking for interest content to break through my current level of Spanish, trying to find new ways. And the hardest part about Spanish for many people - modo potencial y modo subjuntivo. If you could explain how to use them, that would be great.

Thank you for these videos. I have a language partner from italki & have a long Spanish playlist because of your first video. How did you text people in English when you switched your phone over? I only text one person in Spanish & spell check would try to change everything I wrote in English to Spanish when I texted or emailed everyone else I knew. I had to change it back. Also, can you do a video on what you do to maintain your Spanish now that you're at a higher level? Is the music & conversation with your new friends enough or do you do more?

Thanks for watching and thanks for your video suggestions. As far as the phone, there is usually a globe near the keyboard where you can switch the settings from English to Spanish or vis versa. I use that when texting.
