cholesterol does not cause heart disease, when you start keto your fat cells that are shrinking has cholesterol trapped in it and makes it go up cause it cannot get used as fuel so your blood gets flooded with it, it does not cause disease, in fact it makes so much stuff in our body we need it, all our sex hormones, vitamin D, brain health, cell health, etc..

70 years ago my parents started raising all of us on KETO way of eating. Back then it wasn't called KETO, it was simply eating what we grew on the homestead. We raised our own beef, pork, chickens, and hunted game meats. We grew a garden too so our meals were heavy on meat and veggies. It was rare for us to have fruits and grain products. I always thought we came from a naturally healthy ancestral line, but now I think it was the foods we ate that resulted in a Lot of my ancestors celebrating their 100th birthdays while still living an active healthy life.

It just makes sense. No deprivation. Just real whole foods. I homeschool and the keto diet is wonderful for good attitudes, attention spans, focus and comprehension. It's no wonder it is the diet prescribed most for neurological disorders in children. It is 100% safe and effective and I can't believe the difference in my children on keto versus sugar. By the way we're constructed, we're nomadic scavengers and harvesters. We're not designed to hunt and kill by our own physical traits, unless the prey is very young, old, slow, stupid or ill. The design of our teeth, desire and digestive tolerance for meat shows we are designed to include meat in a substantial capacity within our diet. Even vegans desire meat and there is an industry dedicated to making all-plant food items that "taste like meat." If they didn't crave meat, why would there be a need for foods to satiate the craving?

Never in the hundreds of thousands of years that modern humans have existed did we once eat high amounts of glucose not even counting fructose from white sugar and corn syrup which is MUCH worse. I honestly don't think any types of sugars are good for us in large doses. As an example Steve Jobs ate a frutarian diet and died of pancreatic cancer (RIP) and Ashton Kutcher was working on a film about Steve Jobs and decided to follow his diet, Kutcher developed pancreatitis. Too much fructose and not enough fat and protein is treading in dangerous waters for sure.

I don’t let her drink much else unless she says she wants plain water. I avoid diet soda and sugar free soft drinks because she will flush out minerals that aren’t being replaced.
The hardest part is getting my husband to understand all this. He likes to “treat” her by letting her drink diet soda but he won’t consider the flushing of the minerals when she does drink them.

I shudder to think of all the Goldfish crackers, fruit roll-ups, and other garbage I used to buy for them. Yuck!

Dr. Berry, please, please, please do a video addressing infant formula vs. cow/goat milk. Obviously, human breast milk is best, but so many mother's have to deal with a transitional period in which their baby is not yet ready for other food, but their breast milk production is insufficient. Then they have a choice...real animal milk or formula. It would be greatly appreciated if you would address this.

You can't get "too thin" eating Keto. Your body knows better. It won't let you do that. Your metabolism raises and lowers itself as needed to prevent this. It's why exorcising doesn't work for weight loss. When you exorcise, your metabolism will slow since you are exerting so much energy. Watch videos from Dr. Jason Fung. He explains this.

We eat Keto friendly dinners as a family, but I have had issues with finding enough breakfast and lunch ideas for the kids. Whenever I eat breakfast (not everyday), I tend to have eggs and bacon, but my kiddos don't want that everyday. It's the same with lunch. Variety seems to be the hardest part. Plus, with my husband and I doing IF throughout the week, it makes meals for the kids more of a challenge. I really am trying to get away from the typical S.A.D. foods that we grew up with. It was easy for me and my husband, but it's harder for the kids. Any suggested resources, Dr. Berry?

He has reached an ideal weight for his height and structure. down 15 lbs. since March. he doesn't like breakfast foods but will eat keto waffles with sugar free syrup and keto pancakes once in a while. So I make him things like individual keto cheese cakes or lots of times he wants just full fat mozzarella cheese plain cute up in thick strips and sometimes wrapped with pachuto or deli meat of choice. He also likes left over meats or his favorite leftover steak topped with Kerry gold butter and whatever left over veggies. He loves those buckeye peanut butter fat bombs. He also loves no-noodles lasagna in a mug. there's beanless chili topped with sour cream and cheddar cheese too! you can look up recipes on youtube...whatever is their favorite regular. foods there's a keto version! A couple ideas for breakfast that can be made ahead - Meat bagels. Ham cup quiche. The meat bagel could probably also serve as a sandwich "bread" for lunch. My go to lunch is taco meat, sour cream, and olives on green salad dressed with homemade mayo. I would think keeping them interested in lunch would be very important. Back in my day we used to swap at lunchtime. Maybe get them invested by helping prepare their own lunch? Just a suggestion.

I agree with this video a hundred percent. However I feel compelled to speak about the current modern experience of Keto where electrolyte deficiencies are all-too-common. It would have been nice for you to touch base on that and provide a cozy little word or two to pacify potentially worried parents regarding that topic in that their child can experience keto and still avoid the keto flu. Does not matter if you have other videos already talking about this, repeat it again in this video.

so, my son is autistic and asperbergers is no long used for diagnosing autism. Instead, they use level 1, 2, and 3. Aspbergers would be equivalent to level 1. Aspbergers was removed because there are no consistent traits for level one autism. We are doing a ketogenic diet to reduce the amount of carbs he eats . Carbs equate to behavior meltdownds in my single experience with one child that has autism. Because autistic kids on the spectrum often eat very few foods, mostly eat carbs, as the grow and develop their nutrition is significantly impacted. when we first started with the diagnosis my first question when behaviors started was, "what did you eat?" School food and celebrations often contain crap for your kids. I am interested in participating in any kind of trials with keto for kids and autism. Please hook me up to these resources.

This helped me so much. Our family just started a few days ago and I have been nervous about feeding my kids these high fat foods. There’s so much information saying keto is dangerous for kids. Thank you for your helpful video. My kids are loving it so far and they don’t feel deprived at all like a “regular diet” can make you feel. It’s crazy how many carbs we really consume in a day. I still have so many things left in my house that need to go but it’s mind blowing. We have been having fun finding all sorts of substitutes for things they love. My kids are more involved and that’s the best part. I will say it is difficult keeping tract of how much fat they are taking in. Do you have any helpful tips for that? It’s important to note that I was low carb/ keto while pregnant due to Gestational Diabetes. My son, while he does enjoy things like sultanas (I think Americans call them something else but I’m not sure what- they’re dehydrated grapes lol) and some sour dough bread, he tends to naturally gravitate towards animal products the most: meat, cheese, yoghurt and sour cream, as well as some fruits. I’m curious as to whether children inherently know that this is the way they should be eating, or whether they do so due to the high fat content in breast milk or whether my diet during gestation is the reason for this.

    Dr. Berry,
I"m looking for information for female teen runners and keto.
I have greatly benefited from my recent conversion to keto- from eating very 'healthy whole foods,' including milling and soaking grain, homemade yogurt, etc... My 16 yr old daughter seems to have the SAME digestive track as I do- colic and acid reflux as an infant, constipation, bad food causing skin issues and even asthma, tummy problems, extreme fatigue. Because of this, I wanted her to try keto, too. But, she also runs varsity Cross Country and Track (800, 1600).
She has been on keto for a week, quickly held ketosis, and is showing signs already of fat-adjustment (craving fats, improved mood). She ended track at the middle of June at 40 miles a week, and she was planning last week to re-enter training at 25-30 miles, but is too tired to run. She is able to bike. Her coaches insist that she needs high carbs and highly discourage keto.
    Here are my questions:
    1. Are there any resources for teen runners? All of the information I seem to be able to find is for ultra-endurance athletes.
    2. How does keto coordinate with high intensity training? It seems that even keto ultra-distance elite athletes go high carb before and after a high intensity workout. Some even claim that keto is not ideal, even dangerous, for power sports and high intensity training.
    3. AS per above: What about for races
    4. How long will it take for her to be able to resume her previous workouts?
Thank you so much for your work!!!

Dr Berry, is there any research looking into allergy and intolerance development related to elimination diets? I can see the health benefits of having my kids eat meat and veggies (because, duh, of course that's good for them) but I'm aware that in life they may be in situations where enough safe meat and vegetables to satiate them may not be available, whether that is army boot camp or traveling to Nepal. Should children be exposed to whole grains such as rice in order to reduce the likelihood that they will react negatively to other foods later in life? I see the clear short term benefits and developmental benefits based on nutrition as you've outlined in this video, but I'm concerned about long term clipping their wings.

Dr Berry, I don't mean to hijack this topic, but I have a question sort of related to it. I have been keto for over a year now, and I feel great and would love to continue it. However, I recently got some bloodwork done, and found out that I have some troubling numbers. First the good things, HDL was ok but not great, Triglycerides were very good, remnant cholesterol was good, c-reactive protein, insulin and lp-a were all good. What wasn't good was particle size, number and ApoB. My overall cholesterol was 266 and LDL was 205. Went to a cardiologist who is fine with me doing keto but did put me on a statin for LDL.
was very hesitant, but decided to go with it for now. He has a family history of heart disease and has his father on a statin, and said he would not do that if he thought it was harmful. Seemed to be up on his research. So, basically, I am wondering if you think Keto is good or bad for someone in my situation. I thought it was supposed to help with particle size and number and maybe those numbers were even higher before keto. Is that likely a genetic thing? Sorry for the long post.

    • @DidiArte
      @DidiArte Před 6 lety +10

Ditch the statins. I was nurse to a neurologist for several years. And he said to his patients with dementia that he could NOT help them if they took statins. We would watch them IMPROVE when they went off the statins. Then, when their primary physician insisted they go back on them, they would decline quickly again. Cholesterol being bad for you is a myth. The brain is largely made up of cholesterol!! I have been doing keto for years now, lots of butter, animal fats and the like. I have LOST tons of weight. And when I had a HEART cath prior to a corrective surgery, my vessels were all clear---at age 67 at the time. Keto is GOOD for you! SO is cholesterol. Most docs have been taught the cholesterol myth as if it were a religion. Thank goodness that Dr. Berry found the truth and is teaching it!!

I know about the misinformation with cholesterol, and the LDL and overall do not really concern me, but that combined with the bad particle and ApoB results have me wondering what to do. I have heard from people that do not generally recommend statins that there is data to show that middle-aged men do actually benefit from them. I may not stay on them long depending on how future tests go.
