    Ultra light graphite rod, 7'6" with a fast action, usually 1-6# test...with a quality 1000 series reel, does a great job with mini jigs...can spool it different ways. 3-6# Braid to 2#-4# fluoro leader about 6-8 feet long...or 60% mono backed to 40% fluoro 2-4# etc,...use as light as leader as possible...slow retrieve usually works best while jigging rod tip up and down slowly...👍

    Hello!
    I’m new to using braided line. My Question is can I tie the D2 Jig straight to the braid? Or should I use a leader? Thank You for your time. BTW I bought a bunch of D2 jigs to use on Taneycomo. Looking forward to catching Trout with them!

      @lelandslures  Před rokem +2

      If you use braided line then you'll need to tie a leader to it. Good luck on Taneycomo!

    I know you guys product test at Roaring River sometimes so what it the magic color down there? I always have great success withr the gold and pink trout magnets. Thanks, been waiting for these for awhile.

    • @lelandslures
      @lelandslures  Před rokem +1

      Pink is hard to go wrong with but some days they just act funky. Most days you can catch them on the colors found in our kits, but there are days they won't touch them but they'll destroy a Bison colored Trout Magnet. All that to say, keep a selection of colors and if the bite is slow on one, keep changing it up. Thanks for the question!

    What brand are those spinning rods ? Do you & JD ever use the Float n Fly technique ? Rod suggestion for this ? Thanks !!!

    • @lelandslures
      @lelandslures  Před 10 měsíci +1

      JD was using some ST. Croix rods and David used the TCB by B'n'M, along with the SLS-150 by Leland's Lures.
      We do use the 1/16 under a float often during extremely high water. For that we use our 9ft Trinity Rod.

      We like the newer Shimano Vanford in a 1000 or 2000 but we still use the Shimano Stratics

    I was wondering if Mr Dudley uses any fluoro leader, or does he run straight 2lb SOS?

    • @jddudley7800
      @jddudley7800 Před rokem +2

      I primarily use straight 2 lb. SOS. David introduced me to the flouro leader and I can see the benefit of it when it's blue bird sky, low water, no wind and the fish are really skiddish!

      if you're using braid then we'd recommend 5 to 8 feet.

    What weight jig do you typically use?

  • @shanericketts5799
    @shanericketts5799 Před 11 měsíci

    I like 2lb.line.But I get scared when if I get snaged up.6 is good in my opinion so if I do get snaged I can tighten my drag and hopefully get free.Or maybe I'll catch a damn monster too!😂

    • @lelandslures
      @lelandslures  Před 10 měsíci

      The thinner the diameter of the line, the better action the jig will have on the fall. As you increase line diameter, you jeopardize the spiral action of the jig which in turn will minimize the number of bites. Tiny details for us are huge details for the fish.

  • @alex111683
    @alex111683 Před 11 měsíci

    The line recommendation is off. The 2lb works but only after you've somewhat mastered this technique, otherwise you're going to break off A LOT. A better recommendation would be braided line. It has even a thinner diameter to strength ratio and the weight ratio as well. Anything between 6-10lb is great. It also allows you to be versatile in that you can attach any leader you want depending on water and fish size conditions. My line is 8lb Daiwa jbraid x8 grand with a 2-6lb fluorocarbon leader.

    • @lelandslures
      @lelandslures  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The 2lb or 4lb SOS is very strong for its diameter and it is the cheapest line and most user friendly line choice for this style of fishing. The braid set up is definitely stronger and more sensitive but can get overwhelming to the beginner (leader knots, wind knots, and managing tangles). This is why we discuss both set ups in the video. Thanks for your input!

      Master the art of jigging first, then try braid to a fluoro leader. Otherwise braid can cause problems and you won't get the knack of jigging as easy

      There's no need to break the bank on top tier reels. I run an Okuma Ceymar 20 for trout twitching and a Ceymar 30 for Salmon twitching and I enjoy them more than reels that are over twice the price. Mind you, the Ceymar is one of the cheapest reels I've ever bought as well..

    There is no such thing as a light action rod. The rod you use is light power with a fast action.
