    Poppet-style couplers have been around a long time they are strong, reliable cost-effective with minimal moving parts and a lot of manufacturers have their own take on the design to make them durable and reliable.

    0:50 Main Differences between Poppet and Flat Face Couplers
    1:25 The Disadvantages of Poppet Style Couplers
    2:25 How and Why the ENGMATTEC Flat Face Coupler is better than the Poppet-style coupler.
    3:50 How and Where are ENGMATTEC Flat Face Couplers Used
    Quick-connect couplers are used together with Hydraulic attachments, there are numerous designs and sizes and are designed for many types of equipment.
    For example, Buckets, Augers, Rock Breakers and Trenchers for Bobcat Skid steer loaders, all makes of Excavator and Backhoes,
    Quick connect couplers are used on prime movers, semi-trailers and tippers,
    Forklifts use couplers when using attachments such as grabs and rotators.
    Portable hydraulic power packs use couplers for attaching to press tools used for pushing and punching and pulling tools
    Stump grinders, log splitters, concrete cutters, water blasting and jetting, and equipment all need quick-connect couplers
    Quick connect hydraulic couplers are frequently used when a machine operator wants to quickly, neatly and without tools or major oil leaks connect or disconnect a high-pressure hydraulic oil supply and return to an attachment.
    Eaton's version of poppet coupler is in our opinion probably one of the most durable we have used especially in hammer/rock breaker applications where high-pressure pulses are experienced.
    The disadvantages are that they can disconnect if accidentally bumped or knocked from a certain direction and upon disconnect, they also discharge a fair amount of oil causing a mess and environmental pollution.
    On reconnect, they can introduce a small amount of Air which could cause some minor issues to attachments that require accuracy.
    Another disadvantage is that on reconnect if the couplers aren't kept clean, contamination can be introduced into the hydraulic circuit causing damage and premature wear.
    Stucchi has a clever animation that explains this issue very well.
    you can view it here
    • Stucchi Quick Coupling...
    Flat face coupler design was invented by Massimo Arosio in Italy and first patented by Italian Company Faster SrI. in July of 2001.
    The design and componentry of this coupler from an engineering point of view is really clever and quite technical.
    The main features of this coupling are as follows
    1. A flat clean face so no contamination or air can be introduced
    2. Minimal oil leakage on discharge (less than 0.15 ml.
    Virtually a Dry Break.
    3. Rated to 350 bar working pressure (5100 psi)
    3. Lockable release sleeve prevents accidental disconnect if knocked.
    4. Good for High-pressure pulse Applications such as Hammer circuits
    5. Suitable Construction and mobile equipment, general industrial, mining and agricultural industries
    (Two years ago we introduced our new and improved version with heat-treated and hardened parts and easy one-hand connection. THE ENGMATTEC coupler is Interchangeable with all other ISO 16028 Flat face couplers manufactured and these parts are still out there performing well.
    6. 4:1 Safety Factor.
    7. Industry Interchangeability - mates with other manufacturers' ISO 16028 couplings such as Faster, Cejn x62, Hansen Qa2900, and Parker FE/FF/FEM series, DNP .
    Specifications
    1/2" NPT female connection threads for hose and pipe adaptors
    Rated Working Pressure 350 Bar (5100 PSI)
    Flow Rates From 20 to 150 Litres/Minute
    Pressure drops less than 0.1 Bar @ 20 Litres / Minute
    6 Bar @ 150 Litres / Minute
    Operating Temperatures -20 to 100 degrees Celsius

    I always recommend to buy the Flatface nipple with pressure eliminator because it is impossible to connect if there is residual pressure inside, for those used to poppets they use a hammer on the top of the nipple to release the pressure which with time will be rounded and will no longer open the valve when connected.

      If you are in us and have trouble disconnecting your flat face coupler, convert them to pioneer

      @@plowmaster1206 😏 Plowmaster, If you have trouble disconnecting a flat face coupler you have either done one of three things, 1. Not rotating the outer sleeve to line up the notch with the lock pin, or 2. Given the outer sleeve a good knock, or 3. Dragged them through the dirt. Then again, do any of the above to any Coupling including Pioneer; chances are you will have trouble disconnecting them as well.

    Very intriguing. I hope, this technology trickles down to bicycles. A godsend for breakaway touring bicycles on flights.

      Hi Leo, There are very small drybreak couplings available, they are called CAT Test Ports, they are quite common on Caterpilar equipment for quickly testing and checking pressures during service and maintanace, but maybe still not quite small enough for bycycles is weight is going to be an issue. How many connections would be required for a bicycle two or would you require more?

      @LeoInterHyenaem Před 3 lety

      @@Hydraulic.Online Hi, Thank you for the reply. Sounds interesting; I'll check them out. A breakaway frame would require one, and the fork, depending on where is internally or externally routed, will require one - or none. 22Bicycles sells couplers ("Brake Break") for ca. $250, and so does JSJ Cycles (unnamed). Indeed, if they were a little smaller and more affordable, they'd be a Godsend for cycle tourists.

    I am guessing that there is very little air introduced to the system with the flat faced coupler? Like so little that it could be used in a race car scenario for quick change brake calipers. Maybe how Porsche changed the entire front brake set caliper and all on a car in under 50 seconds at Le Mans 2018.

    • @Hydraulic.Online
      @Hydraulic.Online  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes makes sense that Porsche probably did use some form of quick-connect disconnect brake hose coupler.

    Im in pest control and we use the poppet style to a 150 psi sprayer under houses everyday. (Dragged through dirt, slammed on concrete) and it can handle it for a bit but like you said the dirt and grime just kills the o rings. Can you replace them and if not. What would you recommend. Coupling or brands anything lol we need help/an idea because im tapped out.

    • @Hydraulic.Online
      @Hydraulic.Online  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Danny you can change the O rings and Backing rings on poppet couplers Its a bit fiddly but possible. Get yourself a set of O Ring Picks for about $10, they are hard and sharp so use them carefully so that you do not damage the O Ring groove or put a hole in your fingers. Pull the O ring and Backing Ring out and take them to a bearing Shop they should be able to supply you with new ones for a couple of $. Also you can get Rubber dust caps for the couplings to protect against dust, dirt, and damage. They look like this www.hydraulic.online/search?keyword=dust%20caps

    I have a Parker 1/2inch flat face coupler. The male nipple has lost a little plating on the working surface, and shows brown steel underneath. It's smooth alright. But I am wondering if it should be replaced now or if the plating doesn't matter much🤔?

    • @Hydraulic.Online
      @Hydraulic.Online  Před rokem +1

      George as long as the surface remains smooth and rust-free when disconnected it should be fine.

  • @airspool
    @airspool Před rokem +1

    Can either of these be used for refrigerant under pressure?

    • @Hydraulic.Online
      @Hydraulic.Online  Před rokem +1

      Hi Airspool, No I do not recommend using these quick connect couplers for refrigerant applications,
      the design and seal materials are incorrect for the cold, heat the gas molecule sizes and phases between gas and liquid.

  • @bluedemon79
    @bluedemon79 Před rokem

    What about O ring damage when connecting and disconnecting? Do they leak with lots of usage?

    • @Hydraulic.Online
      @Hydraulic.Online  Před rokem

      These couplers use tough synthetic O rings some with nylon backing rings, and are quite durable, that being said repeated connections without cleaning and or wiping the dirt or dust off the couplings before connecting will eventually cause leaks on any type of coupler.

    Can you review a Cejn quick cupeling?

    • @Hydraulic.Online
      @Hydraulic.Online  Před 4 lety +1

      Hello Nailtwister a lot of manufacturers including Cejn will manufacture flat face and poppet couplings to the same ISO specification. This is to ensure interchangeability. For example a 1/2" flat face Cejn Male coupling manufactured to ISO 16028 A specifications will fit and connect leak free to an EngMatTec Female 1/2" Flat face coupling and any other manufacturer that manufactures to the same Specification. Dimensionally they will be the same, that being said there may be differences in the quality of materials used, the Heat treatment and hardening of the metals as well as the electroplating and resistance to corrosion and the elements. We plan to do some long term tests of various coupler manufacturers, so if you have not done so already please like this video and subscribe to this channel.
