  • The 1983 anime movie, Golgo 13: The Professional, features an anti-hero who is Japan's answer to what was at the time, the MANLIEST man ever to appear on screen: Connery's James Bond. Only Golgo 13 himself was perhaps TOO manly. Find out just what the hell went wrong (or is that RIGHT) with this production and if it is forgotten gold or garbage.

As I've stated with a few other comments, it's been a while since I've checked out what others have left here, but I legitimately want to hear a real counter-argument for why this movie is loved by some. More than just "You don't understand, LOL!!1!" I've laid out all of my arguments, so hit me with yours. I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm actually very curious how people can like this thing beyond the nostalgia factor.

I absolutely love this movie. I watch it about once a week. It's pure Gold. So much is going on in one movie.

I'm surprised you didn't talk about the actual cel animation quality. I always thought that was one of the high points of these theatrical anime releases from this period.

When it moves and isn't a still-frame shot for 30 seconds (like most of the movie is) it does look smooth from an animation standpoint, but it's like they didn't use any live-action reference shots. Most of the body movements and vehicle movements are either stiff or supremely over-exaggerated. There is no middle ground.
Seriously though, I recommend you get drunk and watch the Streamline dub with your friends. It is an amazing experience.

Nice review here, dude. lol. Yeah, Golgo 13 is a total sociopath. He doesn't give a BEEP about anything but himself. But his strong point is he's a badass.

Never seen the anime or read the manga. Had the game when I was a kid, though. It was all right. It gave me some fond memories of proving to my friends that he gets laid in the game.

G13 is one of the strongest animes of that era just from an artistic standpoint

It's been a while since I checked out any comments here, but I'd like to hear your counterpoints to each of my arguments against this movie. What artistic standpoints? I'm not being a dick here, I want to know specifically what others still like about this movie. I've laid out my points one by one in the review, I'd like to see a legitimate defense that's more than "LOL, yur dumb and don't like awesome old anime!"
