Good review. I own pro8 and they are amazing. Bought it back in 2021. I been a dj for over 20 years now. I have went through almost every brand. Jbl,qsc,Yamaha, EV. The sound quality of bose for small to mid size events are top grade.

I've been djaying for over 25 years. Evole 50s are amazing. I played up to 400 people and never clipped. I, too, have qsc cp12, k12.2 and subs. I don't miss the weight. I have gotten a lot of compliments. I also never played a gig in full volume. My clients complain or become deaf . No complaints here on the Evole 50s

I seriously doubt that you did a job with 400 people with the EV 50s the low end drops off quickly. When you start walking away from them they are in your face bass which is good if you’re up close but further back, it’s all mids and highs

Love your review. I really like your "straight to the point" Pros and Cons. I was a JBL guy and never like Bose until I tried Pro 16. Now I own two Power Station 1's, L1 Model II, and two L1 Pro16s and never look back. I also have owned LD systems Maui 6 and 11, and Curv 500 and their Stinger sub. This is what I can tell you about LD systems speakers: because the way they position the horns (Maui 11), the audience has to be at the right distance, otherwise, they will miss out all the treble. Maui 28 has the same mid/high arrangements so Im pretty sure it would have the same problem. Bose (and EV Evolve) are using full range speaker drivers and no horns so they don't have this problem. LD systems Curv has a much better mid/high speaker design but it is severely underpowered. Across LD models, originally equipped subwoofer drivers were so subpar that I had to replace them, then they worked so much better.

Wow, interesting as I'm a JBL guy too. It sounds (literally, lol) that these Bose are really good, and stirring up the Pro Audio world. I just wondered with the all plastic construction how durable they would be. And the fact they offer a 32 speaker Line Array is rather special. Hope they perform well for you. My current home surround ended up being a used JBL system (as buying used, I can enjoy a higher quality system than buying new) and blown away with what I ended up with. It's the best sounding system I've ever owned and has truly made me a convert to JBL. Things like the "Bespoke" AV Receiver (rated 105W RMS per channel but closer to 140W RMS, plenty of power), and all passive speakers (including towers) seem more musical than any of the powered speaker systems by other brands. The higher the volume, the clearer the sound. Amazing. And it goes to "11" on the volume knob. lol. nice feature. And my prior system was an Onkyo AV Receiver with Polk passive surround system speakers, so not shabby at all. By the way some excellent music for ya: hardest hitting Drum and Bass songs for your enjoyment: "Witchcraft" by Pendulum - Rob Swire D & B mix. On CZcams channel "Be a Baddie like a Demon" - song "Blowin Smoke" (fourth or fifth song). Not sure who even does the song, but it hits hard! AND Best R & R album of 2023: "Howl at the Sky" - 'In Line for the End Times'. Entire album, debut album by the way released 6/23 is Excellent!. Solid 9 out of 10, and no cookie monster vocals.LOL. Plus some great guitar work. You won't be disappointed! Lastly: Best R & R Album 2020: "Villagers of Ioannina City" (Greece) - "Age of Aquarius". Again Solid 9 out of 10, entire album, their 2nd. Heavy Pink Floyd influence, while still completely original, and using classical Greek instruments instead of synths. Again singing, no cookie monster vocals. Good stuff. I'm a Musician, playing drums and piano since 16, and I listen to music every day instead of watching tv, - so yeah I know good music! Enjoy friend! Peace!

@@johannjohann6523 If you like JBL, you should try CBT J70-1. It is a passive array column with four 5 in speakers and sixteen soft dome tweeters. I actually modified both of my Bose L1 Pro 16 so I can use its built-in subwoofer with a pair of JBL CBT70J-1. I feel I can put up this set up against ANY portable line array systems out there (believe me, I'm not boasting here). Just like you, I buy decent used speakers and I have never been disappointed . I really hope you have a chance to try those JBL speakers. I really think the plastic construction doesn't interfere with the quality of the sound as long as those speakers are paired with a subwoofer to handle all the bass sound. I used to handle the sound system for a church and have experienced with all lines of JBL MR series including their 3-way system MR838's and some of the SR series. Those professional speakers are the best, and yet, too heavy and sound a bit harsh to me. Wish you lot of fun with the experimenting of sounds.

Thank you for your opinions on these 2 great systems. It was very informative, but you are giving a DJs point of view. I am a solo musician that also use 2 of the 50Ms for my band. Solo (1 system) or Band (2) they kill. I've heard the Bose in both Solo and Band , and they can't keep up. I play solo with full backing tracks, and my 50M projects outdoors as well. I played this past weekend at a Farmer's Market, and my friend said he heard me 2 blocks away.

I'm a solo musician in Australia, playing acoustic gigs and I also gig with backing tracks. I bought the Evolve 50 a few weeks ago to replace my old QSC k12 (12 years old) but I must agree with you and admit the Evolve 50 does lack headroom! I was a little disappointed with them to be honest. Acoustic gigs it was fine, but playing my guitar along with backing tracks at a pub, the unit started to struggle at almost full volume and still wasn't that loud. I'll still keep them and use them for small club gigs, small functions and gigs where space is tight, but I'm keeping my QSC K12's and subs for larger gigs in the future.

This is another good comparison video. EV- Electro Voice (owned by Bosch) and has German engineering behind it. However, the new Bose portable Llne array is getting good reviews, and from establishments that provide a sound system on the stage for bands that play. They too have given the Bose system good reviews. The Bose system also offers the 32 speaker Line array which I don't think any other company offers such a large portable Line Array system. Bose has reduced their speaker offerings recently, indstead focusing on a few high quality products, and not much in betwwen, or more "budget friendly" entry level systems. EV is a solid company, and have been known for their professional sound equipment. All in house design, and additional features like DSP allow for more configuration of the speakers. With Bose, it is less configurable, however few people disagree with the sound quality and the need for any adjustments. I think EV gets an edge with durability against the Bose. This is Bose's 2nd generation Line Array, and they have designed a system that is lighter in weight for ease of transportation. Whereas EV being heavier will also be more durable. But the newer Bose Line array is a contender.

Most of these portable array systems are not designed to produce booming bass. If you try that by adding bass using eq you will start to clip. This was also the case with my Evox system. So I use a 15 inch subwoofer along with them with the xover set at 100hz and the problem is solved. I get another 3 to 6 db from my Evox with the sub and also booming bass.
I already had that 15 inch sub sitting around so it has not been a big deal.

I sure hope Bose is paying attention and watching these videos. I am hoping they redesign the column to make it more secure and sturdy. Thx for the video

Great video. I think you are the first on CZcams to compare the Bose Pro16 to the EV 50. Did you notice the better 180 degree throw on the Bose? I agree the mids on Bose are better but the high end on EV is more like your typical point source top with more clarity, but some say too much in your face can be fatiguing. Looking forward to that Maui 28 review.

Thanks for watching. Bose 180 is great for the room but not so great for the dj. 120 would have been better for my ears. The clarity on the Bose is unmatched so far with other speakers I’ve heard or used. But the Bose fragile build and road worthiness is very lacking. If I could have the Bose guts inside the EV shell that would be a perfect match IMHO✅
Got 3 wedding this weekend so I will have a good idea how the LD Maui 28s rank with these.

The Evolve is unbeatable in "LIVE". That's the flatter configuration, where the 3.5-inch drivers do an excellent job in the mid frequencies. Far surpasses Bosé.@@jpwpro

EV’s more clarity? Not so after owning both. That’s one of the main points here. The EV is lacking in clarity.

Everyones ears are different. For me the whole Bose Pro line including the Pro32 has a rolled off top end. Thinking, because they don't use a dedicated tweeter. Specs show this by not reaching 20Hz like most PA's. Even if I max out the treble EQ, Bose still sounds recessed on the highs compared to QSC, JBL, RCF, EV.@@ronedwards8239

I think you will be disappointed with that particular LD. There is also no head room like you were saying about the EV's. I think you might like the Dave 18 GX4 LD's. this is my next purchase.

Lol!!! Sounds just like a Glock baby, lol!!! The best thing about the EV is their ability to hold tone & clarity at every level, unlike the Bose that is solid at low to mid volumes but can’t touch the EVs top end. Yes, you can certainly push the EV to distortion, but you reach that floor at a considerably higher DB/SPL level. Just because the Bose limits distortion by squelching their overall volume at much lower levels just means they are designed to be used by amateurs who don’t know volume ends at clipping/distortion and this allllows them to turn it up to 11 and forget about it without damage. For smaller gigs or events that cater to spoken word or acoustic strings the Bose is a solid choice but in every other setting the Bose falls short, especially when you bring in the newer 50M. You might be able to make a case for the Bose if you were comparing it to the EV 30M, but only user error could make the 50M or 50 fail against the Bose in a blind head to head…

@@vu3088 I don't think the 50m would be any different as far as sound goes, I think the 50m is more about having more mixing/input options.

I just heard them both side by side at Gitar Center and the EV 50 sounds better than the Bose. The EV 50 has a better top end and plays louder with good top to bottom end uniformity. The bose was laid back, softer sounding with a laid back top end and when pushed the speaker has compression that I didn't like. The EV 50 was better if you need to play it loud at times.

Agreed. While the 50's column may be a bit sturdier, it's still vulnerable to being damaged by someone bumping into it. Really surprised either company hasn't addressed this. I get trying to keep costs down, but I'd gladly sacrifice a little more money for a sturdier column.

If the Line Array does not fit into the Sub to carry on just one hand then that is a no Portable Line array. It's just a Line Array system wanna be portable.. I rather bring my Big PA System. Portable means you have a few people on a venue if you wanted loud why not just bring a Big PA?? to me this is completely nonsense when it comes to portable.

    • @jpwpro

I have a cart so that doesn't matter to me. The BIG difference is the sound and room coverage (180 degrees vs 74-90 for a traditional speaker) and the sound is way better than any traditional speaker I've ever used. This is why I made the switch. Thanks for watching.

  • @DJBpartyTV
    @DJBpartyTV Před 9 měsíci

Bottom line is if you want a system that can get loud, with punchy bass buy the Evolve.
If you want a system that doesn't make you cover your ears when you walk buy but fills the room with even coverage and very rich bass then buy the Pro16.
You get what you pay for.
To be honest, if you're looking to purchase the Evolves, spend a little extra money and buy the Pro16s. Hands down the best column for sound, size, and weight.
