I don't understand what happened to melnikova scoring. When you compare her qualification routine to this one, she made a triple wolf in finals, just a double in quals, the rest is the same I think. So she had more difficulty in finals. Landings were not significantly different. And yet she scored beyond 14.000 in quals. What happened?
I still don’t understand her score lol. I love Morgan but I think it should’ve been Biles, Melnikova, Murakami. Morgan and Mai’s routines were comparable, but I do think Melnikova should’ve beat them both.
I did some looking, because it made no sense to me as well. Her triple wolf turn was given a deduction for a bit of a lack of control. Her double pike dismount had a three tenth hop deduction. One of the turns (they mentioned she fell out a little bit but covered with choreography) was noticed and subsequently deducted. She also, in general had somewhat lower difficulty in tumbling which made a difference. That’s why she finished where she did. I agree her routine was overall better, but you have to take maximum advantage of the code of points where you can. In the end, she got an Olympic medal on floor which was greatly deserved.

I absolutely loved Melanie’s routine in 2018. This was such a good FX final in my opinion, a lot of good routines.
Her routine is just pretty average so that’s why she’s not contending for the top 3
