Very helpful, great video! I actually like the shorter videos (I have adhd so my attention span struggles more than most). Really informative, I appreciate your videos, thank you!
Thanks :-)
This was a wonderful video. I have a ton of oxides, clay colorants and mason stains. You have inspired me to play more with them.
Thanks a lot. So happy to inspire ❤️🙏
Wow, I really enjoyed this video. Thank you so much for sharing :)
Glad you enjoyed it! :-)
Thank you so much for sharing, I too have a lot of oxides and you have inspired me to be more creative with my decoration on my pots.

Thanks. Glad it was helpful! :-)
Thank you very much 🙂
Thanks :-)
Thank you so much … it was delicious (hhh
Thanks :-)
Du får super flotte resultater og det ser spændende ud - jeg får dog ikke helt fat i hvad de to hvode pulvere i plastikkasserne, dem der bruges 1/2 spsk fuld af er. Håber du vil fortælle, hvad det er.
Tak :-)
Det står i beskrivelsen
1 part colorant (oxide, carbonate, stains or clay)
1/2 part flux (for examble Gersteley Borate or Ferro Frit 3124)
1/2 part EPK (Kaolin)
Jeg er ikke opmærksom på, at der er beskrivelser, dem må jeg finde. Tak for inspirerende og lærerige videoer. Jeg følger søndagsvideoerne og prøver at få samlet de ældre op, sådan lidt efter lidt.

Thank you for this informative video! I’m trying to figure out a better way to apply cobalt carbonate over a glaze. It’s so watery and drips easily or causes the glaze to rub off as I’m applying it with a brush. I’ve seen some people painting the cobalt oxide on with a brush and it looks less watery. Maybe they add something else to the cobalt wash? If I want the oxide not to run I shouldn’t put the flux in, right? Also what is the difference in results when using cobalt carbonate verses cobalt oxide?
Thanks ❤️
I have a video here with some variations of how to do wash:
88. How to Make Oxide Wash for Pottery Glazing
czcams.com/video/6yfOOnhW6So/video.html
Carbonates are much smaller particles so tend to blend and melt out better with glazes and run less. But I also used oxides or stains and ghat can work too.
Just experiment and find your own unique combinations that you love
I’ve been trying to find info on how to mix an oxide wash having just purchased a bunch. Hard to find! This video was So Very helpful and wonderful! Thank you! I also appreciate the storage tip you gave.
I have two questions.
1) Is it necessary to use a face mask when working with the oxide powders? I thought it was but you’re not wearing one.
2) in f I just use water and oxide with no gersly or epk when you say it might not bind to tbe ckay body, does that mean it’ll just crackle and fall into the kiln shelf? I’m using a community kiln and don’t want to damage anything.
Thank you again!
Thanks :-)
1) it is safer to use a mask. I just forget some times :-)
2) wors case it may crackle or glide off but its rare in my experience. But to be safe you can also place you pot on something
Ej jeg glæder mig til at se videoen🙏🙏🙏
I hope you like it :-)
I am actually interested in making a manganese wash so I can put a black line at the top of my porcelain cups. But I cannot find any recipes for making a managanese wash. Is it same process with the EPK, etc.,.?
You can also just use the oxide and water :-)
I'm trying to make cuerda seca for outline of my tile art already I have manganese dioxide and clear glaze can I mixing together? Or I can use your recipe?
I am afraid I have no experience with cuerda seca :-)
Hi,
I’m excited to try using oxide washes. What do you add as a flux? I couldn’t catch the word.
Also can I use ball clay instead of china clay as the additive?
J
Thanks :-)
Details are in the video description
Hi, Can we also use china clay or Kentucky ball clay instead of the EPK? Thanks a lot for sharing!
Yes, but it may not turn out as white :-)
@@deMibPottery Thank you! What kind of chin clay will give the whitest result? Its a lot of different clays....I can't find EPK. What does the letters mean? Thanks!
@@lineschjlberg4066 EPK is a kaolin. Yes, there are many types of clay but not all is available everywhere. You should ask your local clay supplier :-)
In your video 79--Using Oxides...You added a zinc wash--what is the recipe for the zinc wash? or was it just zinc oxide and water?--Your pottery is beautiful! thank you!
Yes, just that :-)
Can I use a feldspar as the flux instead of gerstley borate? I don’t currently have any. Previously I’ve mixed my washes just oxide and water.
Also, I used copper carbonate without a glaze over top expecting a black wash and got green. Should I use copper oxide instead for black?
I assume so. Try with a limited mix and see how it works :-)
Can stains/ oxides be used in low fires? The studio I study at fires to come 06
Do you glaze fire at cone 06?
Is it possible to use something else instead of epk for the same effect as epk is. not available at my place. Thank u
Yes, you can use another kaolin
@@deMibPottery Can we also use china clay or Kentucky ball clay instead of the EPK? Thanks a lot for sharing!
@@lineschjlberg4066 Yes, but it may not turn out as white :-)
i am making a sculpture of my dog, a black and silver miniature schnauzer and I'm struggling on how to glaze it. Do you think something like this would be appropriate? I like how matte, textured and coloured animal sculptures look, but am unsure of how people create something like this! Looking forward to your video, I have found them very helpful and interesting.
Yes, that would most likely work really well. Apply the wash and wash it off in some areas and texture to create a very lively feel to it
@@deMibPottery Thank you!
Greetings from Brazil . I really like learning from your techniques. Thank you so much. You are so generous God Blees You for it. Sorry for my bad english
I was just wondering what you are using EPK and what?
I use EPK in many glazes and TS
Heloo
Hey :-)
