Adding WHITE CLOUD MOUNTAIN MINNOW | Fish disappeared? | EP3 HILLSTREAM AQUARIUM

  • I finally introduced new fish White Cloud Mountain Minnow to Hillstream aquarium (River aquarium). Unfortunately three out of five fishes didn't survive their first week in their new environment. Explanation of what I think happened is at the end of video. Remaining two Minnows are super active and healthy. Reason for only going with five fish in such a big aquarium is that I am planning to stock it slowly. In EP1 I have added "Filter Start" bacteria and some filter media from my other aquarium. Water parameters were tested daily and ammonia, nitrites and nitrates were 0. I will introduce more White Cloud Minnows (from a different source) during next few weeks.

    This was definitely a low point for me and the Hillstream Aquarium. But going into this video journal I promised to myself to show you good and bad. But not all is bad. I am few weeks ahead with filming and eventually things do get better. Thanks.

    It wasn't your fault, you were doing everything you could to help the fish live a long healthy life, and I really relaxed to this video and enjoyed it, kinda like an aquarium story. Great videography and white clouds are one I'm really loving to keep! Keep up with the amazing aqua scapes and videos and hope this tank is filled with breeding fish! 👍

    I really appreciate you sharing your struggles. I find the problem solving aspect of your videos interesting and although I always hope for the best, I can't help but to feel encouraged that even someone at your level has challenges. Idk why you don't have more views, but I sure enjoy your content. Keep up the good work!

    What did you put in the substrate? Only sand? That might be the reason why so many plants melted! Probably the sand choked the roots and/or they didn’t have enough nutrients! These are just some ideas because I don’t actually know what the situation is! Sorry for the loss of your fish and don’t worry too much about algae! The acquarium should sort itself out! Great video tho! Loved the shots and the music and the tank is stunning! New sub 🙌🏼

    • @IMaqua
      @IMaqua  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for all the compliments. You can watch my build video and all will be clear what I put. Bottom layer is nutrient rich substrate, after that is normal substrate capped with thin layer of sand. These Valisneria plants are so thin and gentle and they got damaged during transportation. I ordered them online and they traveled for 48 hours. Algae is ok, I don't mind it.

  • @lvengineerable
    @lvengineerable Před 2 lety +1

    Maybe there was so much melt because your nitrates were at 0. Are you not dosing fertilizer? So many plants and so little bio load right now.

    • @lvengineerable
      @lvengineerable Před 2 lety +1

      I forgot to mention. Beautiful tank!

    • @IMaqua
      @IMaqua  Před 2 lety

      Thanks. As I mentioned the initial melt was due to transportation. It was super hot (summer) when the plants were transported to me and they travelled 2 days in a mail. Also vallisneria that I ordered has extremely fragile leaves and a lot of them got damaged. Now plants are growing without problem.

    • @lvengineerable
      @lvengineerable Před 2 lety +1

      @@IMaqua I do remember you mentioning that. Some melt is usually expected. However, 0 Nitrates is going to cause additional melt though. Pretty sure vallisneria prefers to absorb nitrates from the water column. All your epiphytes pull their nitrates from the water column as well. That's why you have a lot of yellowing on older leaves. They're growing now because you have a bio load going which is adding nitrates to the tank.

    • @IMaqua
      @IMaqua  Před 2 lety

      Yeah valisneria is pulling nutrients from both the substrate and water column. Its normal that some melting of the plants will happen as you mentioned because of lack of bio load but it all depends on type of plant and setup. Its all good as long as plants eventually start growing. Thanks for very detailed comment.

  • @tinuljevicaquaticgardens1002

    Jesi siguran da je akvarij u tom trenu cikliran...0 amonijak 0nitrati i 0nitriti ako se ne varam je znak da dusicni ciklus nije krenia iako na tu kolicinu vode to nebi trebalo smetat tih par riba

    • @IMaqua
      @IMaqua  Před 2 lety +2

      Pa sigurno nije cikliran za tih nekih par dana kada sam dodao ribe. Medjutim na toliku kolicinu vode te 4 ribice nije neki problem s time da sam dodao "filter start" bakterije i malo medija iz drugog filter. Nazalost ja mislim da je to sta sam napisao, taj dan je bio pakao vani ribe su do mene putovale 24 sata u kutiji. Nedavno sam dodao jos 13 komada od drugog dilera i sve je OK. Tako da mislim da sa ovom prvom posiljkom nesto definitivno nije bilo OK.

    You got many steps wrong my friend. Schooling fish keep them at atlest 8 of them together. And if 0 ammonia dont change the water let the fish adapt. White cloud are so hardy they cant die like that. Feels bad .

    • @IMaqua
      @IMaqua  Před 7 měsíci

      As I mentioned at the end of the video there was an issue with transportation and that is probably why they got sick. Cheers
