This year the top 4 could not have been more different so really worth checking out. The crowd favourite on th enight was Finland and they also won the public vote. The voting is split into two halves 50% is decided by a jury panel of musical professionals from each country who vote for their top ten and those ten are awarded points. Loreen was well ahead after the jury vote. The public vote then put Finland ahead leaving Loreen to need 187 public votes. She got well over 200 so she took the crown. it is her second win as she took the title in 2012 for Sweden. Many think her song then was better than Tattoo. The Swedish group ABBA were the first band to ever win the contest and next year is the 50th anniversary of that win. Some are heavily hinting Loreens win was fixed so Sweden could host the contest next year. But some vote rigging was attempted a couple of years ago and those countries were called out and their vote disqualified so seriously she won fair and square.

The entire point about eurovision is musical diversity! Rock (and bands) winning is actually quite rare with Måneskin and Lordi being some of the only two rock-adjacent winners. So this year we got a Swedish power pop balled, last year was Ukrainian rap and rolk, then in 2019 it was a pure ballad with Arcade. The genre and vibes of the winner swings drastically each year but the songs competing always has something for everyone to enjoy and that's what makes it so great.

For example Cyprus really surprised me, their song was awesome!
The point system has been the same from 2009 I think, at least until this years contest. Every country in Europe has a "jury" that votes their favourite songs and gives them points from 1-10 and a 12 points for their top picks. After that it's revealed from the last place on how much points the song gets from the audience. The placings can change drastically in this second stage but this year Loreen just got too much point from the jury so the audience points weren't enough to get a surprise winner. Or was Loreen the surprise winner? 😉Depends on whom you ask 😄

@@lykke Thats' what I said second place with the public! Reason why she did not get a 12 with the public is probably due to the fact that her public show performance was not as good as her earlier performances. Why she did so well with the jury is because that was probably her best performance she done, I have heard that the jury performance went really well. It's not the exact same performance that is being juged here with the jury as with the public. I also think that people made sure to not vote for Loreen, not because they didn't like her or did not have her as their favorite but because people were not sure I they wanted her to win twice. I saw that Finland gave a 0 vote for Loreen but that was obviously for tactical reasons. They wanted Käärijä to win and I understand that but I believe that even those who loved Loreens song did not vote for Loreen in order to help Käärijä winning.
I also think that the smear campainge might have had something to do with the lower public points for Loreen. Loreen also have more public support outside the ESC world and Tattoo is currently the most streamed song of this year form ESC, yes even the more popular than Finland, not to mention she s charting in multible countries and is being #1 at the moment in many countries. That says alot, Tattoo even with the petty ESC-fans are still loved and appriciated in the world. People just want someone else but Sweden to win and yes it's pop from Sweden once again but that does not mean Loreens performance and song don't deserve it's win. Käärijä would have deserved to win too and nothing can take away the love that you and other fans are feeling towards him.
