Sandeep Godolo totally agree with you,,,what a fight they have put up,,,,even though they got ridiculed for running away from daesh at the very beginning,,,they have more than made up for it now....well done those brave fighters of Iraq and Syria
derek... lets consider this. You are with a group of guys supposed to protect a piece of territory and
1. You are not sure what or who you are fighting
2. The support (air & artillery) you were to receive simply shuts off the channels and cant be reached
3. Your senior officers (those who have not abandoned you) simply don't know what to do
4. Your group is so hated by the population you are protecting that they might slaughter you themselves and finally
5. Some of your guys from your unit change their uniform and start welcoming the militants....
What would you do? I am sure you cant do John Rambo, so you slip away, survive today to fight tomorrow.
Iraqi army did what it had to, because they were just recruits at best and untrained uniformed civilians at worst.
ISIS columns moving towards Mosul, Tikrit, Nineveh, Raqqah could be seen from the moon. Yet, they managed to storm half of Iraq and Syria.
This kind of information of being left on their own, coupled with the invincible and barbaric image of ISIS don't leave you with much option other than to save yourself.
How the Iraqi army should have handled the situation could be better explained by people with experience and knowledge about War and Armed forces. However, for a simpleton like me, their actions based on their situation is pretty much what I would have done myself.

Iam from Mosul iam watching this video now in the memorial of Mosul battle , last pack of cigarette I had was for 20 $ , and iam from the west coast , in east coast one cigarette went for 100 $ during the final days of isis occupation , and people bought it , the thought they going to die so meh ! What to do with money ..sadly that was true for many many civilians , they died with there kids , parents , frightened , hungry , cold , thirsty , the died because there houses were randomly bombed ..and there bodies are till today excavated in the old city

This is E.R.D, one of the best Iraqi combat units that played a prominent role in the fight against ISIS terrorists, they fought frok house to house, street to street for 9 monthes in Mosul and won despite ISIS usage of unusual tactics such as suicide bombs, car bombs, human shields and traps.
They and ISOF (Iraqi Special Operation Forces) spearheaded the war against ISIS.
I could blame the USA for that but ok.. I'm glad to see these brave soldiers fighting for hope and freedom... Keep moving comrades
The US didn't create ISIS. ISIS had existed as a small cell but after 9/11 the US entered Iraq and Afghanistan. This left a power vacuum that iSIS took advantage of. ISIS birthed our of Al Queda. And Al Queda started it all with all the terror attacks in Iraq and the West. The US has assisted the Iraqi army a ton in fighting ISIS.
