  • I stole this arrangement from Chris Wallum, a fingerpicking guitar player who's been knocking about Leeds for about as long as I have. (A long time!) I'd never thought much of this song but Chris was insistent that it was one of the best from Ruminations / Salutations and perhaps he is right - I didn't really realised what it was about until I learnt it. I've gone with the Salutations lyrics as they're a little more positive. I'm not sure Conor Oberst was thinking of it, but the riff reminds me a little of "You Got To Walk That Lonesome Valley" by Mississippi John Hurt.
Some of you have noticed that I do have a new guitar. It's the same as the old guitar (Martin 000-15) but with fewer holes in it. There is a story behind it that perhaps I'll tell one day.
Unrelated, but I need to get my hair cut, it's getting a bit too Terry Wogan.

Just finding your channel. The Oberst and Dylan covers quickly won me over

Wonderful fingerpicking. Definately hear the spirit of Mississipi John Hurt in there. I’m interested in the ref to Falling Water and Frank Lloyd Wright. American icons. There’s a crazy story about how quickly FLW drew up the plans for Falling Water when the client gave him just a few hours notice he was visiting Frank’s office to review the completed designs. At that point he hadn’t drawn a line. It’s a story architects know too well.
