Good stuff. I work in New England and see some real gems quite often. Gonna have to start making my own archive of photos. Subscribed.

I live in NW Washington state and I see those crimp romex connectors all the time in older homes. pain in the butt if you're swapping out a panel and trying to preserve the wall. but then again, screw type connectors are a real B in that same regard lol

The electrical code was almost nothing back then, 40 years ago they did not even care how many wires were put in a EMT pipe. The flexible metal conduit at 1:18 was common, and most of that is grandfathered. Now they don't want more then 6ft of it. They should end the use of NM cable, everyone calls it Romex its the worst. All electrical should be EMT, I love putting it in the walls.

12:39 Presumably their fire insurance is no good if they know they have a hazard of this magnitude and are neglecting it.

Guess what, they will not pay to clean it up. Seen it many times. Problem is Low Voltage guys hardly ever pay attention to codes. Plus you have had multiple guys come in and do work under bid.

😮 those Romex crimps! Did they start out as EMT connectors before they were crimped??😂 And I thought I saw some shabby work, lol it looks like a plumber turned electrician installed that main panel.., was it in a shower wall?? Lol scary stuff

10:08 I think I see 1960s TV antenna lead-in there, the wire with the disconnected spade lugs.

Hey bud. Love your channel. I am an electrician in Georgia and I just passed my contractor exam 2 weeks ago. Anyway I have a friend who just framed his new house and wants me to completely wire it. My company only does commercial and industrial so I’m a little out of touch with resi estimates. The house is a little over 3200 sq ft and has a ton of can lights, rec/usb combos and such. Should I just give a price per Sq Ft?

James, thanks for sharing. Bidding really depends on experience more than anything else. Software is only as good as the person entering the information. I have a very unique way of bidding that I share in my coaching sessions. I don't use software and most if not all of my jobs on my channel are bid using the same simple system. You may want to sign up for a session. Read the reviews, everyone has been happy so far. calendly.com/the360electrician

You would need to count the number of Insulators at the pole. If I remember the formula UkV = 15kV x Number of Insulators - 15kV. In your case after the substation , the lines that are distributed out to cites and communities would be about 7.2Kv to 13kV. Each utility uses there own voltage. so I would bet its 2 Insulators on the Poles.,

Hey matt, Yes! Not a penny less on that nightmare. By the time I fix his crap, sort out the phasing issues, stucco, panel, breakers, shanty, all the unknowns once you open the wall, and a hard to deal with customer on top of all that, not getting it was a win. Customer wants handyman work with handyman prices, be my guest. I never sell ourselves short. Plus my partner Cali wants there cut. Sometimes I go cheap and always always always say my original quote (which is usually higher) was the right number. What would you have charged just looking at the picture? $800? $1,100? I guess it would depend on what part of the country you are in and what your own overhead looks like.

@@The360Electrician For instance, tomorrow I’m replacing a panel with a 20/20 Siemens and I’m charging $750, so with an $85 panel and only 13 circuits I’m clearing over $500. Should take me around 2 1/2 hours and I’m more than happy with that. Every area is different. I’m also a one man company so I don’t have all the extras that come with employees. But yea $1800 around here would be laughed at so I’m jealous LOL

@@mattkrywyj5184 Thank you for sharing. I'm actually envious of you. Not that it's easy anywhere these days but here it's go go go. What stat/city are you in?
I often tell new contractors to, try and treat yourself as an employee. Paying yourself as an "employee" of your company but also charging to leave profit for "the company." In my case I have to pay the employees, and me the "manager", and charge for the company's share to grow, pay the bills, buy new vans get thru the hard times etc. Until I started treating my business like a company I was always paycheck to paycheck. Now I can finance any job, not worry about the slow times.
All markets are different yes but math is the same everywhere. We all deserve what we are worth, but only we can place that number on our heads.
