I discovered Al Green, Jacky Wilson, Rufus Thomas, James Brown, Roy Hamilton, BB King and many great entertainers by diving into Elvis's life. These artists are great and they should be played much more.
    Thank you for this reaction!💚🎶

My first concert, as a teenager, was to see the "Green Machine", Mr. Al Green. His current hit song at the time was You Ought To Be With Me. Walking out on the stage, with the tune to this song playing, wearing an all white 3-piece suit & carrying 2 dozen, long stem, red roses, the crowd was in a frenzy. The ladies, in this 15,000 seat concert arena, was making a beeline to the front of the stage to try to get a rose from this young man. What a way to open his show. It was the early 1970's & I still remember Green's concert like it was yesterday. Oh, what a time to be a teenager. Historic.

Legend has it that a young Al was playing Jackie Wilson records and his (preacher) father put him out. Jackie, Al, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, and Walter Williams of the OJAYS are the cream of the crop!! It don't get no better!

Released as part of the 1968 album Let's Stay Together, the Reverend (He is) Al Green just took you to church. Not blues or soul, this is heavy gospel influenced. Be with the one you love, love the one your with.

It reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed on the charts for 16 weeks. Apparently it took him about"100 takes" before he was happy with what he heard...;-) It's ranked 60th greatest song of all time by Rolling Stone magazine :)

In the mid-seventies, Al became a minister after loosing his girlfriend to suicide .. He also formed his own church during that time. He has won over 10 Grammy's, been inducted into the RRHofF in 1995, awarded another Grammy for Lifetime Achievement in 2002 and was a Kennedy Center Honor recipient in 2014.

If you want to expand your horizons, listen to Dimash sing “SOS.” Many believe him to be the best singer in the world. His vocal range spans 6-8 octaves depending on who you ask and sings in many different languages. He’s been studying music since the age of 5. There’s much more to know about him but you have to hear him to believe it. The version of “SOS” that he sang at the Slavic Bazaar is the best. Trust me, you will only regret if you are afraid to try something that you are probably not used to. 😁
