There are 2 endings to this game. You can see the good ending at 15:10 and the bad ending at the end of the video.
The message at the end of the bad ending translates to:
"The server is cursed
The game is cursed
You are now cursed too
There's no way to stop it now
Face it
It came from the other world
parallel universe
It's out of our understanding
It's out of our understanding
We will never know what it really is"
Are you afraid of playing some horror games? Because they are at least 30% of your videos.
What happens if you deliver all three flags in the beginning though?
Nicholas Bender yeah, I want to see that.
Time to BLJ out of this universe I guess
How did you translate the message?

really like the russian metro environment of this game and it improved on a lot of factors from No Players Online but the flashing images detract from the whole thing.

Agreed, the flashing image thing is more silly than scary
The ‘No Players Online’ idea is an innovative concept for indie games, I feel like they can expand it further like using other game genres like point and click.
A no-players-online as an RTS sounds quite interesting too, but may be tough to pull off properly
I dunno...if you use game genres that don't have online and aren't in first person it just turns into the "Ben drowned" trope, were the whole haunt, ghost, spoop or whatever is neatly packaged inside a cartridge
I would likes to see some MMO horror game
I clicked my way to hell
Horror games where the game itself is cursed aren't anything new, but the idea of multiplayer games being cursed and being on an empty server is a nice new twist on the idea, it's really nice to see people working with this, I hope to see more games of this type in the future
Honestly here's what people should do:
Don't make the server empty, make it have bots. But the bots are wrong. They start out normal (0 flags), then they freeze (1 flag), and then they start to watch you, not shooting, just staring at you
Another idea I have: add a player-like character that when you shoot it, it plops down rather than exploding or respawning, but it pulls a Michael Myers and constantly gets up
Tbh if these games had more gameplay integrated in them, they would be killers: They already have the atmosphere.
Would it be far scarier if they just started ignoring you in favor of causing havoc or shooting each other? You’re just strolling through a hallway or something and then you hear a gunshot and your heart runs 120 miles per second but its just some bots fighting each other
@@dusksunsetio6042 no, since there'd be no direct threat to you
Frank-2, Martial of Frankoslavia the “Wait for it...” effect of the “nothing is scarier” trope still exists

Unnerving images on the whole screen? Cmon, that's just a cheap way to make the horror.

Nice idea, but aside from the flashing images people have already mentioned, my biggest issue with this game is that the map design doesn't really seem like a multiplayer FPS map.
So true
3:29 Everyone gangsta until Siren Head makes a cameo
Time stamp?
Siren Head was one of the Trevor Henderson Creatures! I SAW HIM TOO!
I like the idea of "empty multiplayer server horror" becoming it's own sub-genre. It has a lot of potential.
This really begs the question: How many old FPS game servers are actually still running, even if no one is playing those games online anymore?
Ricochet, TF Classic are two great examples.
quake 3 arena
Fortnite
@@TrevorLahey3 We wish.
See, it’s the modern haunted house. There was something there once, but no more. Then our minds cannot deal with emptiness so we fill the void with spooky stuff. Same symbol. Back then were castles, then mansions, then prisons, now empty fps servers. In the future, we will all be dead memories living on CZcams videos.
I bet my left nut that there is already a game about forgotten cursed youtube videos
Dead memories on CZcams videos....you got my imagination churning. I like it
In the future there will be an app like youtube and has all the videos and channels but they're all already dead in reality. As you use the app, you'll notice there's some glitch and sometimes you got replies on videos you've never watched. Somehow the youtubers that are dead are still uploading, but they made videos as a ghost, and the video is like their usual, the set ups, reacting, gaming, etc, but this time they aren't there. Just the chair/background, and the video keeps going with no sound, dead silent.
Just a thought.
By that time in the future, it wouldn’t be far fetched at all to think this: the app did function much like CZcams, with a series of minor differences that set it apart enough to take hold (much like the MySpace/Facebook transition). Eventually all CZcamsrs either transitioned to this new platform, or refused due to the invasive nature of the app: an aspect of this invasiveness being some sort of algorithm that transmitted statuses of the content creators on a regular basis irregardless of their situation (by this time, the idea of privacy and having to consent to such granted access will have faded greatly with the generations-a result of the effect social media has on evolution. The desire to be “liked” and “followed” became a necessary part of many lives for income).
Of course not everyone in the world was dependent on such things, for they were actually able to find a job-but jobs were rare and thus these people were in the minority. The rest of the people lived in hiding. The app knew who were content creators, and it knew also who did and didn’t have a job. The people that didn’t have a job were “marked”.
Ok I’ve run out of steam at the moment lol
I dind't lile the idea of the flashing inages. Seems like a old idea brought from deep web games. Its not even scary anymore.
Here's the dev, I agree with you guys. Getting rid of those in the next update
I would like to say also that the game should be a full suspense experience. I mean, leave everything to the imagination of the player.

This game is an improvement over No Players Online in several different ways.
It actually feels like a game people would play, with radars, fast speeds, and having actual chat permissions.
The only issue I can find with the FPS game is that the map can be too dark at times.
As for the overall game, it’s really good. The game doesn’t grind to a halt as John Dev is expositing the game’s back story to you, which i adore, but just like what everyone else in the comment section is saying, the flashing images are rather cheap and needless to garner scares.
Having the game fall apart with placeholder models popping in and the textures messing up with strange sounds echoing across the map is more effective in my opinion.
Ah yes, No Players Online 2: Electric Boogaloo.
My favorite
POV: You don't know what Boogaloo means but you decide to use it anyway.
Wow, this is less like copying a friend's book report and more like that friend who just tells the stories better.
Better idea: No players online is the short and sweet version of the story, while Connection Haunted is is the more detailed, longer story that's good when you're bored, but not for bedtime.
Does not feel genuine because:
- The spooks start way too early, player has no time to get to know the environment
- Never would the game say: press enter to join a random server (better give the player the illusion of choice like "no players online" did. as example by choosing the server)
- Map design is simply useless for a CTF mode in an egoshooter (too linear, too narrow)
- The whole game does not feel like it should have originally been an ordinary ego-shooter
- The Map is way to big! A smaller map like on no players online would get the player a better feeling of it
- The flags switch places: if the player has to go back to the same acquainted place, they will be much more frightened to go back to that same place
- flashing images appear lazy and add nothing to the story/atmosphere
- Sudden Jumpscares with a loud sound (like on 7:48) that wouldnt be heard anywhere in that environment make the whole "scary" part feel cheap because most horrorgames rely too hard on them
- Its too much inspired by "no players online" and it makes the exact same mistake again and destroys the whole mood: it explains the horror too much (this time its some sort of alien)
That concludes my small list of mistakes that throw me personally off. I am very impressed by the quality of the ambience sounds that have been used and overall they got some very nice and unique "crying, sobbing" sounds.
Thank you. These are my thoughts exactly. Mainly the explaining the horror part. I hate that this game made the same mistake the game it’s inspired by did, because horror like this doesn’t need an explanation, it doesn’t need to be a ‘cursed, dead-wife spooky ghost’ story. It can just be a replica of old style FPS with a creepy twist.
This really does feel like a pure iteration and not an innovation. It has good atmosphere and intrigue, but that's from the concept. Neither game though has done the story or execution right, and I'm still waiting for that third time's the charm to happen.
No Players Online had excellent aesthetics and atmosphere but a terrible story. Connection Haunted also has good atmosphere, though it blows its load too fast and really does feel like it's trying too hard. Of the two, I'd say No Players did the better job.
Someone do this right already.
This really seems to strike a nerve for a lot of folks(me included) actually think hence the many posts here showing appreciation.
It really has potential for a fantastic little horror game if done correctly.
For me personally, it has to be much more subtle at first. I'd also personally include more enhanced menus with information tidbits thrown in there. (fake credits and all)
Real weapon selection, health bars etc like its a proper game.
There is a certain charm to its creepy pasta vibe but only to a certain degree. At the moment it needs to be more real and less horror for me to work.
The flashing images as pointed out a lot should go for at least the beginning. I can see them kinda work towards the end if done well though but you gotta keep in mind that it's a cheap scare and most horror fans are used to and pretty tired of the concept of jump scares.
"Sarah is missing" and the much superior follower "Simulacra" pull this of better for example. These are games where you find a "cursed" cellphone and have to find out what happens to the owner. They work because they create a convincing OS with pictures, apps, adverts etc.
They are far from flawless of course and especially the first free game has a pretty cheesy plot. They also aren't horror shooters like this game but I'd say this feels more like some sort of "found footage" kind of game.
I'm really intrigued by the idea and would really love to see it executed in a way that works.
i like this concept. Imagine a MMORPG setting, with a huge world and no players except NPCs and mobs. Oh wait that was No Man's Sky.

I always had this weird feeling when I’d play halo 3 maps alone and ran around like I’d see someone run across a corridor
This literally feels like it could be a sequel, and at first I honestly thought it was.
17:56 Lol! The “unknown portrait” from Call of Duty Zombies 😂
That was too cute when you typed Hello! 😭
Everybody gangsta' until 2/30 players online
I'm very glad "no players online" ignited the idea of making horror games of empty servers.
It would be awesome if modders would jump into making horror maps on existing online games by editing the game's maps so you can host a 2 player server, go into spectator and wait for your victim for your own amusement.
The first encounter was hilarious. Also the gun spin after you shot a baby in the face.
I love how you shoot the ghost at 4:53 ,
“Nah I’m not dealing with this today”
i really love watching game clips like this. i know some of them are really small like one level but.... it just shows how good game developers can make a scary ass game when they think outside the box.
What would be more neat is if the map started out like a more obviously made-for-multiplayer map, then changing as each flag is collected just like the rest, makes it more 'haunted game'-y
4:52
Ha ha! I'm going to scare you!

yeah and the images don't have anything to do with the theme either.

the concept of no players online and similar/inspired games is something that ive always loved and wanted to see (before no players online was a thing) in a game since ive read creepypastas back in the day that had the "cursed server" concept and im glad theres more games like it coming out, if i could i would've made a game based off of a cursed server but aaa i dont have the talent so rip, but yeh its awesome to see these games popping up now. Only thing that i dont like about this inspired game though is the images that pop up, other than that its ok ;w;
KingGodzilla™ same, ive always thought it was an interesting concept long before anyone made a game like this.
Thiky mhm ^^ I’m glad others like you think the same way, it’s such a cool concept

Those flashing images get really funny when you recognize the artist that made some of them. Saw a lot of Siren Head from Trevor Henderson used.
"Meet me, I'm on the map."
"Where, you f*ckin' skrub, I'll wreck you m8. 1v1 me."
3:00 the baby farted so hard that it’s lightweight blew it away, and I’m not the only one that here’s the sans boss battle theme, right?
horror sans theme
Interesting concept and everyone has good ideas about it. Wish I could code. I'd have:
- Server ALWAYS empty except for player
- Friendly flag gets removed even though no other player is there. Find it then laying on the ground somewhere, abandoned.
- Being shot at, even damaged from behind, turn and no one's there
- Eventually encounter another player, which is a standard model with a glitched out skin (not a generic creepypasta spookygoost), which acts weird like a glitched out bot.
- When killed, it just glitches out with limbs stretching out all over the horizon as you would see in an actual game.
- Also make rather neutral looking daytime map with calm and quiet ambience, it will make the spook hit even harder (bonus points for using Source Gold engine). Or maybe even a space map. Somehow I am thinking UT '99 "Lava Giant". That map is spooky alone because it is so huge.
Just no idea where I'd be going with that but most players would probably already close it in terror. Doesn't take much to scare the average person, it seems.
I suppose I'd do without a player info dumping a story. You'd just run around until you do die, then the enemy just stands over your body and you cannot respawn no matter what you do. Then it kicks you back to the server browser and you can no longer find this server. The End. Less is more sometimes, people.
I love that, he turns around and sees a demon that starts sucking out his soul, so he pops a cap in it and it disappears.
It's like 'oh my God, a demon! Whatever shall I do?'
