To reach the true ending of this game you have to do some serious digging! Here’s a how you get all the relevant info:
**Spoilers Ahead**
First play the game. You can get the original ending by returning the third flag or you can get the hidden ending by exiting when the dev tells you to, then returning to the game collecting the flags and shooting the dev’s eye when it turns up (as seen in the vid above).
Either one of those endings gets you booted from the servers so you need to enter the Konami Code (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A) to get them up and running again. Now exit the game, here’s where it gets interesting…
You can actually email the “dev” at john.mullard@yahoo.com and you’ll get an automated response which links to his website johnmullard.itch.io/eye containing a new game to play called eye.exe. (the playthough of that starts at 08:25 in the video above).
After playing through eye.exe a creepy VHS video plays which has a poem in it with one word blanked out. That word is “haunt”, which comes in handy for the main game.
Now you need to load up No Players Online again and in the server screen you type the word “haunt”. This brings you to a secret screen where you need to type the code “25467” (found via the dev’s tip here papercookies.itch.io/no-players-online/devlog/109311/complete-save-file ). This removes the mesh from the middle of the map and allows you to fall down it.
Now you just need to enter the code “19 14 21” on the center console to access the true ending. This code can be found by digging around in the game files of the Linux version of the game, but a legitimate way of finding it still has to be found. There are a few clues though…
“John Mullard” has a couple of bandcamp pages with some intriguing tracks one seems to contain a morse code message that includes the phrase “Key:Dog”:
johnmullard.bandcamp.com/album/no-players-online
johnmullard.bandcamp.com/album/to-see-noun
Also, the website for “John’s” game dev company is offline but if you look up the WHOIS record for the website whois.domaintools.com/enuitltdgames.com you’ll notice that certain letters are capitalised EnUitLtdGames.com (GLUE?) and “Enuit” is an anagram for “Unite” and Enuit Ltd is an anagram for “Untitled”.
God knows how much deeper this thing goes and there are probably a few red herrings thrown in there. Fingers crossed for a v3.0 update!
thanks for taking the time to find this kind of stuff, I felt the normal ending was a bit underwhelming, now I'm glad to know there is an alternate one

Probably didn’t want anyone to get bored with it
I don't know why this decision was made, at all.
Yes, he fucked up at that exact moment. This game idea really has some interesting concepts, but they aren't used well in it.
Yeah, especially since he can apparently code the dead back to life, but doesn’t know how to password protect his server or IP ban people. And how would finishing the game cause the servers to shut down, instead of, say, starting a new damn round? 🤦🏻♂️

this game: has an interesting concept and seems fun

Everyone: Right Imma head out...
haha
This started off as an interesting concept and got so stupid so fast. "I can code a game to bring the dead back to life but I can't figure out how to password a server or ipban somebody."
Right?? They forgot the number one rule of horror: when you demystify the monster, it's no longer scary. "My wife is a horrible wraith but it's ok, she's just scared and confused, she means no harm." 🙄
i dont think its mainly supposed to be played like a horror game. its not supposed to be scary... its supposed to be something like undertale or stanley parable. also the dude DOES ban u. just after you shoot the eye. the wife (using context) doesnt want to be there, so its a choice. let the dude continue following a possibly suffering filled dream or the the lady go free and cause the dude to be sad again.
Not to mention that finishing the game will apparently shut down the servers. Who managed to code that? 🤦🏻♂️

so true. i feel like everyone gets this creepy vibe when playing alone in a online server.
I also get that feeling
Cs 1.6 zombie servers
i alwasy feel like theres someone else there
Me who plays alone in servers on roblox on purpose:
Yeah, when i play alone in a empty gta online lobby i get a creepy feeling, nothing feels the same cause you are always used to being in crowded lobbies, and the thing that makes the fear sink deep is the fact you feel like someone is gonna catch up to you, the feeling of something not being right, like liminal spaces where it shows a place that is similar to places you have been to but without anyone, giving you that uneasy feeling, same with empty lobbies where you get thrown into a map you have known for years but without players
This game has serious potential, I feel like it has gone to waste though. The whole concept of being in an empty server is something that most people as gamers have experienced, and even outside of a horror game this whole concept is quite spooky. As many other people have stated, the whole raising the dead plot kinda kills the mood. Something about the “monster” of the game being revealed and explained makes it a lot less scary. Honestly, I think the game without any plot at all would be better. Not having any sort of regular interaction with other people will keep the feel of being on an empty server “alone” still alive.
As for all the secret content, I think it’s nicely put together, but really feels much more like the main game rather than a series of Easter eggs (which is how I assume it was meant to be). This section adds more to the plot, but yet again takes away from the title concept.
In the end, I can’t really tell what the developer wants this game to be, but I think it is very nice looking and could be a well designed horror game with some more development put in!
I think it's a convoluted puzzle/ scavenger hunt really, but a cool one
Tman 25 I can enjoy a 4th wall breaking scavenger hunt type game, but the whole no players online concept is too good for me to let go of the gameplay lol.
I agree. The I watched the original play through and was absolutely terrified at what *COULD* happen or what I could see. The minute the monster was revealed, I was instantly less scared.
Oberon Gaming Realistically, they could have just scared the piss out of me by just saying another player joined the game but never seeing them.
Like, imagine how good this could be if there was no monster, but the game just had odd behaviors at times. Random boy joins, fights for a bit, then starts acting weird, weapon/health/ammo pickups start to change locations behind your back, secret pickups in the level start showing themselves without being prompted, and the game occasionally could just occasionally play a footstep sound effect from out of the player's sight.
Less of a plot, and more just an atmosphere.
I think that would have been a lot more interesting then just a traditional haunted game creepypasta.

I’m calling it right now: this game is going to blow up and then be ruined by a horrible fanbase.
There can't be a fanbase if there are No Players Online
Oh, God. You're right. It's got all the elements right there.
- Broody story about dead wives.
- Science fiction elements mixing technology and the afterlife together
- All that philosophical meta bullshit
- A game world which people could potentially wander into and be met with a ghost
- Live action segments to get people guessing if it is all real or not
- And the game gives both too little and too much information about itself, which makes way for theories and headcanons.
Now all we need is 2 or 3 more characters to get a varied enough roster for people to draw fanart and smut of, and we're set.
It doesn't have enough characters to cling on to to obtain a horrible fanbase IMO. but I really hope it doesn't get shit on by a cancerous fandom.
Sempronia Procax Theres not enough characters for it to have a big fan base. The few characters don’t have enough lore to them for people to really like them anyway.
I sure as hell hope not....
This game is like your typical reddit creepypasta "I put in a Nintendo Cartridge and the Nostalgia Critic and Peter griffin bled at me."

Evil Farming Game 2: Frag Farming
The story in this is wacky AF. Why couldn't Admin just kick/ban the player from the server? In all honestly he had NO reason to tell the player about his wife or the fact that this game can supposedly "bring back the dead" It's a very atmospheric game, but writing is Sonic.exe tier.
honestly sonic.exe is a whole lot worse than this game
edit: looking back at the sonic.exe creepypastas, i changed my mind. they're shit.
I agree. All that wonderful atmosphere, and in the end it was dumb as shit. That final room felt legitimately creepy, but in the end if was just "you become trapped in the game while the wife's soul inhabitants your body OOOOOO SO SPOOKY. 🙄
Yeah, this started off so well, but the writing took a gigantimous nosedive right there.
@@mioko5679 there's a good sonic.exe?
This is amazing!
But instead of making it literally about summoning the dead it would be interesting if he "summons the dead" by creating an avatar that resembles his wife perfectly and this game, somehow, tries to create a whole new "reality" with her still "alive". The creator of the game at first is aware is not truly her, but he gets so invested in his idea of bring her back through this project that it gets to a point where he can't tell the difference between reality and fiction: in a moment he does think is her real soul in there and the player is now stuck with a mentally unstable, heartbroken, unpredictable and desperate developer in his also unstable game, a game where the main character has almost no control of what's going on. And they are dealing with this alone, nobody else is there to save them.
Since this is a game and a virtual reality one, anything might happen there. There would be nothing supernatural, but is still scary to, somehow, end up trapped in somebody else's damaged mind, which is represented as a game.
I got really interested in this story as I think games can also be a valid medium for storytelling and this one has lots of potential.
That's an interesting idea
Yeah, that would be way better than a dev who explains everything, and for who raising the dead with code is perfectly possible, but password protecting his servers or IP banning/kicking someone is way out of his league, and who somehow managed to code his game such that finishing a round shuts down all the servers; that’s not how online games work!
Holy crap, you just made the game 50x better and scarier
This sounds a lot like Omori.
Bro idk yo age but you gotta be doin scripts n shit u feel me dog?
The game would be so much better if they just retconned the whole “dead wife” thing
Doggo Yeah, who thought that would be good writing? A, don’t explain everything right away. B, don’t write a character who can raise the dead with code, but can’t password protect his servers or IP ban/kick people.
It feels like a troll creepypasta tbh lol
I believe the whole "Dead wife" thing is a way to fool people into the wrong ending

Well yes. But even the walls splits blood. Seems everything does.
The real horror is that this map was designed with absolutely NO pickups.
FUN POLICE OPEN UP: Camcorders weren't commercially available until the early eighties. Hell, I'm not even sure if news crews had magnetic tape cameras until the LATE seventies, considering when VHS was released. Digital displays and overlays were more of an eighties thing too, so your handy timestamp is somewhat out of place.
If I'm expected to believe that footage was shot with a commercially available camera from 1975, you'd want to aim for a film grain effect, rather than magnetic tape distortion. Anyways: When you fake history, you never go before 1985 unless you want to be up to your ass in mundane technical research.
Good ambiance though. That's the most important part!
Haha! I think this just proves that John the dev is a time traveller!
Time traveling game developer with spooky ghost wife confirmed.
Now inserting players body into the receptacle for transfer of ghost wife.
basically this game plays with the Anachronism Stew trope
Jerk Douglas It would make more sense if the date in the VHS was 1985 or later.
@@pingobingo94 i agree. What an easy fix that would have been, too
Ah Blue and Sentimental is the name of the jazz song that is playing on the record player, and the texts that was in the VHS video is the lyrics by Nat King Cole, I think.

11:21... Those cars driving by were definitely made after 1975
The focus and tension are kind of gone here, alot of effort was put in and I respect that but narratively it's kinda held together with string and popsicle sticks. Great ambiences, great visual work, good ARG tricks, but pretty poor narrative. Too many concepts floating around which kind of takes away focus and any intrigue.

What makes horror work is the unknown. If john_dev would’ve been very insistent on the player leaving the server but elusive on his motivation, this would’ve worked better
Can we examine the design of the FPS game itself for just a minute?
The map has only one path to the flags. The other routes either lead to dead ends or ineffective shooting spots. There aren’t even weapon or health pickups either. And the map is really small.
The character moves at a reasonable speed for an FPS, but in a multiplayer FPS, high speeds and quick reflexes tends to be desired.
Finally, the one gun you do get has a magazine size of around 5 before reloading. Unless it’s absurdly powerful or a decent weapon to use, it’s pointless.
Edit: and also, you apparently need permission from the host to use chat. A jerk of a host can easily disable chat permissions from the opposing team, effectively crippling their capabilities to work as a team.
With all that being said, I like the atmosphere of the whole game itself. A good concept that’s pulled off almost well enough.
the scout's scattergun has 6 shots and is considered one of the strongest weapons in tf2
fuck, the spy's revolver is pretty great and it also only has 6 shots
Actually, the magazine sizes changes every time you reload.
Its 3 shots the first time, 2 the second, 4 the next, 6... And it gives you a phone number with a recorded message. Thats the number of shots: 32468417549.
Josyel Olszewski alright. I will give the game that for having the gun magazine reveal a secret, but how frustrating would it be for having a gun magazine change seemingly randomly in an FPS?
Loli Raviolli ok, you have a point. Low magazine =/= terrible weapon. I’ll change my comment about that.

it doesnt make any sense except the soul transfer part, since the dev's wife's soul is trapped in the game and he wants to bring her back to life, its assumed that the player's body is the vessel.

this extra stuff is a bunch of completely unrelated vignettes. the idea of "its an abandoned 90s shooter" is completely thrown out the window so the dev can do whatever random 'scary' stuff he can think of. hes got a decent grasp of the 'old game' aesthetic, but everything else here is just silly and poorly conceived. i dont want to be an ass, but everything about it just screams "the dev thinks hes totally deep". **shrug** i dunno. i think this whole project started off as a really neat idea that instantly spiraled off into nonsense.
I agree to a certain extent butt it isn't that bad, it's an improvement.
I think it’s pretty good
agreed. reminds me a lot of that game hello neighbor. the original concept was actually really well done and creepy, but gradually as the releases went on, the devs couldnt quite realize what it was that had made the game successful, and it turned into something else/worse. the first few minutes of this are perfect but then it gets too DeEp. was hoping the dead wife subplot was totally abandoned in this version.
100% agree. This could have been something very cool.
henryEZ yeah and bendy too, a cool concept of ink blot cartoons coming to life for revenge, but since it got popular they tried to make the story plot more deep and complex, and now has taken away of what the original premise could’ve been.
This game idea has so much potential... if the dev dropped the dead wife thing. Empty old game servers have an almost backrooms kind of creepiness to them. I'd love to see someone really take this idea and run.
I can't believe this is what Half Life 2 Deathmatch became.
it's interesting how this game was made, unfortunately, I think it needs to go deeper about how her wife became a part of the game and how he put her soul in there... or how he made it so the server is untimately connected to the soul... also, revealing he did so on purpose is not really a good idea, like, saying some strange symbols were added to the game code at random when he was working on it and couldn't get rid of said lines for one reason or another would be a... dunno... better than that... just my thought, tho

The game started great, and the concept was cool, then the creator started chatting...
When you explain or reveal, the fear is gone. The best way to scare someone is to exploit humanity's fear of the unknown, the fear of not knowing if you're alone, of not knowing who or what is chasing you, the fear of not knowing what there is at the next corner, the fear of not knowing what can happen next... and to achieve that you can't just say you can revive people with coding in someone's face. Gotta be more implicit.
And that heavily requires for someone to get invested by the atmosphere, which is why there has to be some drops of coherence but that also fails. He can code people back to life but can't make a password? Really?
He did a password in the secret ending: 19 14 21
I don’t know why but I absolutely hate this. I mean it’s a good concept, but then it feels like a crappy .exe story when you play it.
(Lowkey I was expecting some kind of Ghost of Lockout story.)
Wowie Zowie yeah it’s fine, it’s like we get 200 “There’s a ghost in this game” stories and games a year at this point. This is just one of those two hundred.
In those terms it’s fine, the presentation needs a lot of work. Just saying we need something New for once.
Wowie Zowie yeah exactly. Like you said, we can all agree it’s pretty well made. I’ve been working in programming, yeah a lot of respect to the creator.

This game is interesting and fascinating
Neat concept, but some weird decisions lacking common sense by "John". Why program the game to shutdown when the match is won and why not add a password to the server...? Better yet, kick the user as soon as he saw them instead of taking the risk they deliver the last flag while you explain your weird game to them.
Stories don't have to be 100% logical or real, it just makes them boring or too fuzzy. However, I agree in that Johndev's introduction and the whole explanation ruins it all. It's like making a movie or a comic with pure dialogue, just use visual or, in this case, gameplay elements to tell the story. And the whole "game that revives the dead" is cheesy af
@@meilyn5571 For sure. I get there will be magical elements to a story that won't always make sense, but things that are outside of normal human behavior just stand out and create a bit of an obstacle.
Like you said, show don't do. All the exposition just ruins the atmosphere.
@@meilyn5571 Totally not true. A story that's not logical falls apart, is boring and lowers the quality of the whole thing. Stories have the freedom to build their own logic, but if things that differ from the real world aren't explained to us, then we also have the freedom to assume they work the way we are expected to think they do. That means that if you make a game where the premise is, you enter an empty server, where things behave exactly like they do in any online FPS, then we are allowed to assume an admin has the power to do whatever they want with the players in there, they can kick them, ban them, change their team or whatever. Having the dev speak to the player in spectator mode begging for them to get out and not kicking them only makes it look poorly thought out. We are given no reason to believe that the dev has no power to do so, but we are given a reason to believe he does, based on previous experiences on the real events the game tries to emulate.
@@meilyn5571 Definitely true but after the guy says he's been working on the game for 11 years I kinda laughed. Like really, what have you been doing for that long?
@@tralphstreet But as you say, it's a fictional story, a game, it has it's own logic. If we apply our logic to every story, almost all of them would fall apart. What I mean is that yes, you can assume that he could have kicked the guy, but he doesn't, so we should or could assume that he just can't do that. That being said, the story is poor at it's base. It's like the creator just had a good concept but wanted to add a story that nobody asked for. And there we have a guy that has an old videogame that nobody plays and finds a sv where a guy has been trying to revive his dead wife for 11 years (???) Little details like the dev not kicking the protagonist can be easily explained, but the story itself is done so poorly.
Are we not gonna mention how cool the sound effects are?

This is like that Godzilla NES creepypasta. A near 10/10 for creepy actual physical footage, but it sinks really quick for an unrealistic plot heavy device that just takes you right out of it.
Flames bro your gameplay is on point
11:13 this part makes me so sad

Dio (as player) :hoo are you approaching me ??
I cant creep the shit outta you without getting closer
T̷h̵e̸ ̶P̷a̷r̶a̵d̸o̶x̶ oho? then come as close as you'd like....

John_Dev: Don't shoot the music-
* BOOM BOOM BOOM *
Player: *Shoot the music?*
I really love this game. it doesn't make a lot of sense, but I love the feel of it and the emotional themes it plays with in a rather powerful way.
Imagine no players online but your friend is there
piano bit in the ending? Where can I find that, please?
Ah blue sentimental apparently
“John” the dev, has a couple of bandcamp pages with tracks (and cryptic clues) from the game, you might be able to find it there:
johnmullard.bandcamp.com/album/no-players-online
johnmullard.bandcamp.com/album/to-see-noun
I think it’s La plus Que Lente written by Claude Debussy
I made the sounds and music for this and gonna upload it today later on my channel :)
Viktor Kraus thanks for taking the time to read reply’s and upload it bro it’s well appreciated
JOHN_DEV : How did you even get access to this game?
Me : *watching whole link for game in google* huh?
Cool concept. Also the Kurat 963 rip was cool enough.
this is like playing Slender all over again but this time you have a gun
How the hell are you gonna fit 16 players in that tiny ass map?? its 8 v 8 my guy!! Both sides are gonna have 4 protecting the flag and 4 going for the flag which will fail and then its just gonna be 7 people rushing while the 1 poor bastard that no one listen to stays behind. Bruh. Great horror game though 8/10
ikr people are just gonna camp their flags
That was maps in old days , simple and small this is why is like that, this game is based on a old server
I dont know if anybody has every seen or felt this but sometimes for example i'll load up cod and go to custom games to check the maps n shit, the knowledge of the fact that I'm supposed to be alone makes it terrifying when you hear something or see something in the corner of your eye. To me personally, I dont know why, but this is just one of the scariest things that happens to me, far scarier then most horror games in general. Games that you are alone in and gets silent can get fucking terrifying, I really hate it and this game does it perfectly and has the scariest ambience of any game I've ever played. The silence and the loneliness is spooky but just the moment you hear or see something that makes you think you might, just might not be alone, is so terrifying I almost get panic attacks from them
The scariest thing ever: It was old game.
I know you suggested to get the games and try them for myself, im too lazy plus i enjoy watching you play the games. No dialog? No problem. I just come up with dialog myself
Very clever game to me. One of the horror games that actually get me.
I was imagining that poem in the style of a swing sing and it made it all so much scarier holy shit
That is such a neat premise for a game. Very cool.
Good idea, horrible execution.
I fear the day my favorite games, namely tf2, have its last player online. Could have played into my fears a bit better, but it's so "2010 creepypasta" if ya know what I mean.
2010 is only 10 years ago. What are you, 50?
@@KoruKinshi he meant that the early 2010's creepypastas usually have that unnecessary add-ons to the story. for example, the kagome-kagome story used to scare me back then, but i was aware that the later part of the writings kinda broke down the immersion for me. same thing is going on in here. "the game has the power to raise the dead" is a pretty cheap line/plot that we could expect coming out from a mind of a kid.
The game is trying too hard to be "retro". Arena shooters from the 90's feel nothing like this
(Edit: it's the same problem with puppet combo games)
they never understand that in old games dinamic shadows and ambient occlusion didnt exist at all, i have no idea why they keep adding these in "retro" games.
@@ajr5678 old games never had a static, VHS effect either. It's kind of annoying and it feels too distorted
I like puppet combo's games though. They have something to be desired.
@@ItsPundore the silence is making it more scary
But then when you met the killer, the sounds would be a total fuckfest afterwards
Puppet combo dont try to give you a retro game feeling, but an old movie
NOTICE ME ALPHA BETA GAMER!
Firstly, I already downloaded atleast 70% of your creation (including what's on this video) and I adore every game you made! I remember the first game I try to download in your channel is "Gnarled Hag" and it is so absolutely awesome game. I am here hoping that one day, your games will be available to download via Google Play Store as well. Your game(creation) deserves a title in phone users and I can't wait of dream of mine come true.
He doesn’t make these, he does gameplay videos without commentary
Edit: I think he also hosts them on his site?
When i was watching play through the light turned off, despite it was working in the streets, so i had been sitting in the dark most of the time untill it turned on again
People are like "Woah the game files are such a cool and original idea!"
While I'm just kinda... DDLC... Monika... Game files...?
Anyhow, the game is awesome! Keep up the good work, person that made this!
forgot about ddlc lol
wound up being kinda forgettable tbh, don't see many people mentioning it.
Imscared did it before ddlc IIRC
Breaking the 4th wall is no new concept, I don't get why people get surpirsed by it. I will admit tho, it's not a common sight and it's neat when it's done right.
a ton of games have done it before, one of my favorites is oneshot, which is also special for being one of the few non-horror games to do it
This game definitely did seem alot like DDLC, I'm glad people still remember Monika lol
i really love the atmosphere of this game! at first you think this is just a normal shooter game until you go deeper.
imagine this game coming out on android!
Me: dang this thumb so scary
Also me: *clicks*
That painting is pretty sweet
Aaahh, the good old days of 1975 when we played online capture the flag FPS games on our DOS powered PS1 consoles with the VHS drive.
11:15 if you put some Lofi music over it then it the VHS rape would just look like an edgy Vaporwave edit
Is this game made by you? What a great project!!! Keep up bro
What was up with that part in the middle, where he was playing a completely different game?
