The Real Life Burning Man... (Auroville)

- The biggest reason I came to India was to visit Auroville and make this video so you all can learn about this bizarre experimental community. It's like burning man on steroids.
I seriously cannot believe what I just experienced. A town of complete unity and togetherness, with 3,000+ residents who come from 57 countries around the world. A cashless society that has no religion, no laws and a 0% crime rate. A place where anything is possible, and encouraged, with the most laidback lifestyle I've ever seen.
This is the real life Burning Man... and it's been around since 1968!
Have you ever heard about Auroville? What are your thoughts about it?
Instagram @drewbinsky. Thank you Michael (IG @affinityadventure) for the shots & edits.
PS - This video probably won't get the most views, but I had the most fun shooting it and putting this story together. I love telling unique stories, such as Auroville, which are happening around our world. If you have thoughts or comments on Auroville, please share below! I will be reading them all :)

As an Indian Architect, I can confirm that EVERY SINGLE architect in India is told and taught about auroville in the first semester itself...and it is a dream place to visit for us. Its like how everyone says "Goa is a must visit". We Architects say "if you havnt been to auroville, what did you even do"
a place like Auroville is a dream place. ZERO per cent of crime!!!!!! WOW!
that's because there aren't any laws. 0 laws = 0 laws being broken = 0% crime
Som tin wong it's still under the Indian Constitutional laws
No it isn't. That's the whole point. It's not a state that is in, it's a union territory. So there are no laws
There are crimes if you read articles about it. It's very misleading to say 0% crime rate
Travel With Mansoureh thieves are more in Auroville including prostitution.. fuck your Auroville
I lived there for a few months :) one of the best times of my life! ❤️
I lived there for 3 years..
Wonderful place.
Can you tell why did you get out of there?

Sorry spelled it wrong
I bet a lot of Indians are hearing it for the first time.
Nope. I visited Pondicherry last year but had to skip Auroville because of shortage of money & time to travel there. Had to save money for other goals. This place is definitely on my bucket list & will visit it in the future.
I heard about it before..

I m from India...
Feeling bad never heard of this place b4...
Now surely it's on my nxt travel list...
That's because too much hype is created around the other place Goa. I've been to Pondicherry last year and wanted to see Auroville but had to cut short my trip due to money & time constraints.
Please don’t come...
Have you not heard of puducherry?
@@Anonymous-xg1xq What’s wrong?
I hope every towns around India be like Auroville.
*world
Then life wud be really boring. There has to be different colors in life.
Then it won't be diverse..It would be Dud n boring
Maybe it is better to say many towns in the world 😉
U do understand that this town lives of capitalism by taking money from the U.N (socialism doesn’t work)
Our school is under the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Culture, every year the class 7 students are taken to Auroville, it is the most beautiful place I've ever been to. Especially the Matrimandir, not only is it a marvel to look at, the inner chamber is so peaceful and serene, the silence is deafening. Extremely underrated, more people should visit it. The local saying goes, "If the Mother and Sri Aurobindo want you in Auroville, nothing can stop you from coming to Auroville!"
From the way you described it in the beginning, it's exactly what my teacher would call a dystopian world.
You mean eutopian
utopian bro lol, dystopian is a really shit world
Utopian I think you mean?
Very much dystopian lol
Great video, really enjoyed learning about Auroville. I can’t believe I have never heard of Auroville before, it sounds like the perfect place to live.
I am a Tamilian living in Surat, have heard for the first time about this beautiful place.
Wow..The world should adopt the things followed in auroville
Thanks Drew for this video..
I love your videos because they are hardly 5- 10minutes and you cover so much information in this time..and also you directly jump to the main topic of discussion. Quality👌👌

Wow, I never knew about Auroville. Thanks Drew for educating us.
Capitalism has left the chat
Lol
Bullshit, it's financed multiple ways so it sustains itself as a township.
Prithvi Satish are you from USSR anthem 😄😄😄
India was mildly Fabian socialist (or as Indians call it Nehruvian socialist) until 1991 when poverty and high debt forced it to liberalize its economy by IMF. Now, India is getting progressively more capitalist every year and has been growing at a rapid pace with massive poverty reductions (220 million people out of poverty since 1991 according to World Bank estimates). Shifting from quasi-democractic socialism to liberal capitalism is the best thing has India done in the recent history. It's almost like a new independence
LOL, it's capitalism. Funded by UN and functioning inside the capitalist framework of India. Also, they do have money taxes and most capitalist transaction inside too.
If i ever become financially stable enough to pursue my dreams. Living here for at least 4 months would be on my bucket list.
You are welcome brother

I am an Indian and I never knew about this place. Thanx for the new info and I can't believe such a place even exist. This is simply amazing
Dont had idea about this place as am i live in india since birth ,woow this place is like my kind of place😊👍
Yes, this isn't shown on tv. I had visited Pondicherry last year but had to skip Auroville since I had to save money for other goals. I was pretty impressed when I heard & read about it but totally understand why it's unheard of in mainstream media. Too many people just harp endlessly about Goa.
@rohan thakkar well said bro ..
Drew Binsky, You are an amazing man roaming the world and inspiring people! Love you da!
thank you so much. I must add this to my future travel list.
Never heard of this place. But , I will surely visit. It looks wonderful :)
You should know about Rishi Aurobindo . He was the collaborator. He called her Sri maa first. Rishi was a Bengali freedom fighter then suddenly he stopped and became a Rishi. He left West Bengal and established auroville with Sri MAA .
That is so cool! Wow, I have never heard of this place

🇮🇳 India is the land of spirituality. From the Himalayas to the Indian Ocean, it is almost as big as a subcontinent - the Indian Subcontinent. Being the World's largest democracy to being one of the largest economies of the world 🌏 - India never fails to surprise you. Come down to India and experience it.
Happy Pongal, Drew!!
Heard about it for the first in my life. I was born in India and am surprised that I didn't knew about such an amazing place.
Thanks dude!!
Will definitely visit it.
I went to matrimandir as a kid couldn't control my laughter because of something my sister did and the way people warned me with their eyes made it even funnier.
My whole family was made to leave.
What did your sister really do?
I didn't knew such a beautiful place exist so near me
This is in my bucket list now 💕💕💕
Thanks for sharing! I've been hoping to get to Pondicherry! Hope you can film there though!
Drew happy pongal
Pongal is indian festival especially in tamil nadu
I guess he will cover it in a vid
Hi i am from Tamil Nadu!
I've there many times it takes me just 5 hours to go there from my college also most students from my colleges also go there during holidays.
amazing, never thought about seeing such place
Been living in Chennai all life and been here a bunch of times. Serene n beautiful!
I can confirm that auroville is amazing, I live in chennai so it's very close by, and when I went there it was very different from any other place in india. they have their own figures that they worship, and you rarely see cars, there are not many brands that are there throughout the rest of India but they have their own private shops that are only in auroville, I recommend the bakery bread and chocolate. I saw the Maatri Mandir from the outside but unfortunately I wasn't allowed in due to the fact that I wasn't from auroville and also the place is very diverse, most people there speak french but you can also find germans and sometimes austrians.
How i can join them for permanently?
@@JOY034 you have to get a permanent membership by living for a year there i guess?
@@JOY034
Live 2-3 years and work there
They don't have religion but it surely is a Hindu Yogi way of life not Communism I mean aurobindo was nationalist himself
That which we call the Hindu religion is really the Eternal religion because it embraces all others.
To listen to some devout people, one would imagine that God never laughs.
2 of 2
India of the ages is not dead nor has she spoken her last creative word; she lives and has still something to do for herself and the human peoples.
Spirituality is indeed the master key of the Indian mind; the sense of the infinitive is native to it.
Yogi aurobindo Ghosh
Most gurus are cult leaders. They have their own theology.
The very idea of incorporating everyone into Hinduism itself is a faulty one. Basically, Brahmanism swallowed every other unnamed religious practices in ancient and medieval india and named it Hinduism just for its survival and to infuse the caste system
It was Mirra Alfassa AKA Sree Maa who established Auroville. The idea of Auroville was actually to create a commune on a spiritual(force-free and thus it's not an ashram) and universal basis. The term spirituality here means is to feel one's true existence free from every pre-concieved ideas of nationality or anything which makes it universal.
If one go through sree maa's association with venerable J Krishnamurthy he'll find that She was deeply inclined towards Buddhist philosophy.

God bless Auroville. Love and respect to you all doing such a wonderful work 👌👍😁
Great video, Drew. But Auroville was established primarily by Sri Aurobindo Ghose with the help of Mirra Alfassa whom Aurobindo named Sri Maa. The place is named after Sri Aurobindo and is supported by his trust. I suggest you add a correction note or whatever. Thanks.
Remarkable to do a whole video without mentioning Sir Aurobindo. It should definitely be added.

4:23 I think it's actually impossible for the entire world to use this system. This town itself gets donation from UNICEF to stay alive
David is a traveller from Israel. He wanted to volunteer in Auroville just like other travellers do but he cannot afford it. “It is quite stupid actually. Money is taken from young people to volunteer in the various units. The volunteers have to pay while volunteering as well. But he or she doesn’t get paid to do. There is a lot of money in Auroville. But where does it all go? I don’t know. I am leaving in a few days and as much as I would love to stay here. I can’t afford it.”
this auroville means so much to me! i just discovered auroville was made by my school's inspiration i study in The Mother's International and we know alot about her, its in new delhi!
My school brought our whole 9th grade here like in November 2019. it's so great and It's one of my favorite trips ever.

I heard about that place, it was formulated by Sri Aurobindo
And the mother
Never thought there is a place like this. Great

I lived there for a year. It is an amazing town, but not as perfect as you might think...
Why are the pros and cons?
It is just 1hr away from my home
3hrs from mine and I never knew it existed
Two hour away from my home too, Have been to Pondy but never to Auroville.... Thought it is a secured community and PPL can't enter it
1 hour walking or 1 hour bike or 1 hour flight ?? Please specify...
