Resveratrol: dosage and effect on cardiovascular health | David Sinclair

  • Over the past few decades, an abundance of scientific research has focused on resveratrol, a plant-based compound found in red grapes and peanuts. Much of this research has demonstrated that, at high doses, resveratrol exerts beneficial health effects - especially on the cardiovascular system - and has been shown to ameliorate the deleterious effects of an obesogenic diet in monkeys. Resveratrol is a "dirty molecule," however, known for its multiple cellular targets, so teasing out all the ramifications of its use has proven problematic. Furthermore, it is relatively unstable and demonstrates poor bioavailability in humans. In this clip, Dr. David Sinclair identifies some of the practical considerations of resveratrol supplementation and discusses his personal use of the compound.

    Just started taking it this week on Tuesday. I had pain in my left side. It came from my lumbar spine. I'm 75 so it will degenerate some causing pain on my left side. I do the physical therapy for that. Well I had some eye problems and the eye doctor suggested berries in my diet. On Tuesday the eye doctor suggested reveratrol. I'm a former marine so I'm obedient. I started taking it and you won't believe what has happened. The pain on my right side is gone. I mean I played ball with my grandson for a hour and no pain. I then got in the car and no pain when I sit down. No pain at night either. This was for my eyes and not my lumbar. In 3 months I go back to the eye doctor. I wonder what changes will occur then in my eyes. I hope there are no bad side affects.

    I started taking resveratrol six days ago today. Solgar’s 100 mg capsules - I take 4. An immediate boost in energy and a sense of general well-being was the result. More importantly the anxiety spells I used to get throughout night sleep stopped! But I developed cold-like symptoms, thickened saliva and sudden mucus which led to a horrible sore throat - that only just started going away today. My capsules are brown and I just broke the seal on the bottle. Very disappointing. I have blood cancer and my oncologist mentioned resveratrol as part of my upcoming treatment plan but he's on a two week vacation and I'm not patient enough to wait for him to sip martinis for two weeks. The bottle was about $35 for 30 days of 1,000mg doses, so it wasn't even that cheap.

    • @alexforce9
      @alexforce9 Před 3 lety +4

      Well the doc doesnt seems to be the most masculine dude around.. BUT my guess is it depends on how good is your body in dumping the estrongenic hormones out of the body. Thre is a balance right. You need more male sex hormones and some female ones in your body to work properly. So if you get more female ones outside of the body, the body will reduce your own production. Just like with testoterone. Its your liver that get rid of the hormones via that galdbladder secretion. So if your liver is fucked up its not gonna be as effective in destroying the estrogenic hormones, and if your galdbladder is fucked - then you are gonna have problem literaly disposing of them. Plus - depends on your diet. You need fiber to get rid of the bile (and all that shit in it). And all the diets that are high in resveratrol (wine for lunch and dinner and maybe afternoon) - the greeks, the italians, and the french - its a very high carb, high fat, but also high in spices and salads and vegies and low on sugars. + the quality protein. So keeping your youth for longer is a complex task even if you are using some cheat codes like suplements.

    I am taking liposomal resveratrol. About 200 mg/day. But it is difficult to assess how this affects the bio-availability. There are so many questions. What kind of liposomes (research on liposomal CoQ10 revealed big differences in the various versions).
    Trans-resveratrol has very bad bio-availability bit Sinclair says that if you take it disolved in Olive Oil the availability becomes 5-10 times higher.
    Also: high disages of resveratrol could have adverse effects as it seems to be taxing on the liver (if I remember correctly). So I think resveratrol in a liposomal form could be a lot better, but who knows. It is more expensive.
