In this video, Dr. Berg discussed the differences between palm oil and coconut oil.
    Palm Oil
‱ It absorbs fewer pesticides or chemical fertilizers than coconut oil, soy oil, and corn oil.
‱ It has 50% saturated fat - 40% of which is called Palmitic.
    Palmitic Acid Uses: Energy
‱ It has very high sources of vitamin E complex - It is one of the main antioxidants that protects the inside of the arteries from oxidative damage.
    Benefits of Vitamin E Complex:
    o Anticancer
    o Antitumor
    o Neuroprotective
    o Counters radiation damage
    o Regrowing the hair
‱ It also has vitamin A.
‱ Phytonutrients - like Phytosterols which are the precursors to steroid hormones.
    Coconut Oil
    ‱ 9x lower palmitic acid
‱ High in lauric acid (which turns into monolaurin) - beneficial to the immune system, antiviral, and antimicrobial.
‱ A portion of coconut oil is medium-chain fatty acids - good to increase energy.

Dr Berg - you don't make a clear distinction between 'Red Palm oil' and 'Palm oil' ... nor whether the oil is derived from the kernel or the fruit. It is very important that consumers should be aware of the differences. 'Palm' oil is highly refined, fractionated, bleached, and used in many processed foods. 'Red palm' oil, on the other hand, is minimally refined, pressed and cold-filtered, preserving its red color and nutritional content. Also it is essential to note that oil from the fruit is very different to oil from the kernel. The 'fruit' oil is, nutritionally, by far the best. By not clarifying these majorly significant differences, those following your tips might find themselves reading labels and unwittingly buying the highly refined, poorly nutritionally constituted, versions. So, to optimize health, buy only; "red palm fruit oil".

Palm oil is similar to Coconut oil, and I would give the same advice for Coconut oil. However, also note that any oil oxidizes on contact with the air, so smaller containers would be better advised than containers in which the oil might stand for an extended period. I can't recommend any particular brand.

They came to West Africa preaching everywhere how red palm oil is so dangerous for the health, that Africans must stop eating red palm oil. Immediately after that sermon, there was serious shortage of red palm oil because almost all of it was exported to the Western world. Any West African who can remember that period can confirm this. Of course many people in West Africa never stopped since it was/is still a cheaper alternative.

Red palm oil is abundant in the Southern part on Nigeria and is regularly used in cooking almost our meals, especially our soups.
Am glad that red palm oil is being recognized for all the wonderful nutrients God has packed in it.
It's most unfortunate that in the past, some "researches" were touted to discourage the use of red Palmoil. Rather we were encouraged to use laboratory oils like cotton seed oil, soya oil, canola oil etc. It's most unfortunate that we were being led to believe that the thing God put there for our Good was bad. May be economocs was at the root of that.
I am deeply grateful for more researches that has now looked more into its benefits.

It seems to be a consistent pattern among scientists who seek to demonize fat or protein to use some component of fat or protein - in this case just the fat component palmitic acid, or in the China Study with just the protein component casein - in ISOLATION in order to "prove" that fat or protein is harmful. If a study does not mimic the totality of the food in question, and how it is commonly eaten, simply isolating a particular substance in that food, and then giving animals a massively high dose of that substance in relation to their body weight to induce an ailment, does not prove that meat or certain types of oil are bad. In no other area would simply looking at something in isolation, without examining it within context, be considered fair or honest. These scientists are basically making bogus claims, and they should be ostracized by the scientific community for misleading the public.

    Oh, 3rd. đŸ˜đŸ„‰
awesome commentary on the distinctions tho[ugh], bud.
parrots seem to gravitate to (if not reside in) palm trees. yet here’s what i ask doc: are palm fruits undried dates? And if that’s affirmative then are dates just as fortified? Another question is if youre considering palm as an ingredient for your new product then are we then compelled to mix palm and coconut oils for food preparation? As mixing could then be both safe and better efficient.
In my opinion orange-ish foods in the natural form seem to usually indicate beta carotene. And that nutrient seems to make my skin orange (it’s not bad). Does the red (orange-ish) palm oil then help if one tends to frequent tanning salons with not having to spend too much time at the till (ie under the light)?
    great information. đŸ€™

Palm oil is used widely in foods and on the skin. Growing up it was so useful for everything, insect bites, burns, rashes, allergies as well as cooking and frying lots of delicious foods. By the time I graduated it was being demonised mostly cos western crude oil companies wanted more land and exploration access so they drove away the palm farmers to explore the fertile lands. West African govt's were culpable too. Nigeria used to export palm oil as it's main export but neglected it for crude oil. There're no orangutans in Africa so enjoy your palm oil in good health.

Do people know how damn long time it takes before palm oil tree start producing fruits that can be harvested? At least 5 years! The tree only need "special" care during this growing period. Most of family owned plantation wil use organic pesticides to help the trees grow healthier. Once it start producing fruits, all it need just occasional trimming of the old leaves and harvest the ripe fruits 1-2 times a month. The soil and irrigation system are the most important aspect to ensure it live healthy life and maintain fruits production for good 20 to 30 years. There is no such thing as pesticides garbage westerners talking about needed for the tree to continue producing fruits.
