Hi. Thanks for coming by my parents saimin stand. The broth is our own. My parents created their own broth that’s why it may taste different. Nakai saimin was my dads grandparents place. My dad always had a dream of opening his own saimin stand. My parents still go every morning to make the saimin. The hamburger is homemade also, it’s made every morning also. No, we don’t use oyster sauce on the fried saimin.

I remember when they opened up in the mid-70's. It was my favorite place to pick up good grindz :) I loved the cold kook-su. Their kim-chee sides were awesome too. Nice to know they are stil thriving 50-years plus ❤

  • @theroadrunnerjarhead4109

Back in the 50s and early 60s I used to go to a restaurant called Dot’s in wahiawa. They had good food and on a street by the bus station there was a drive in restaraunt I think it was called toppers. After every leilehua home football game a bunch of people would go there in their cars and hang out. They served saimin at that restaurant among other food like hamburgers. Man I miss my hometown.

I've tried practically EVERY known saimin place in Hawaii, all the big guns - Hamura, 49ers, Palace, Jane's Fountain, Old Saimin House, etc. They're all good in their own special way. BUT, when it comes to local style saimin, if I could eat at only ONE saimin place for the remainder of my life, it would be SHIGE'S hands down! Any Italian will tell you that it's ALL ABOUT THE NOODLES. That a pasta sauce should only enhance the noodles, not over-power it. Well, it's the same for saimin. And Shige's got the best noodles. They make their own. They no buy from Sun Noodle like most places. They make their own fresh noodles. And their broth is perfect. It enhances their beautiful and delicious noodles. ON TOP OF THAT, the Shige's staff is da best! They give great service and they're always friendly. They treat you like family. Real old school Hawaii restaurant feeling at Shige's. I only go there maybe four times per year, but they still remember us. Best saimin, best staff!!

Originally starting in Haleiwa as Nakai's, occupying the space that Cafe Haleiwa now occupies, Shige's Saimin has been part of Wahiawa business community since the mid-1980s. Dong Yang Inn has been Wahiawa landmark since 1970s & was/is known for their Large, Healthy portions. Can't really comment on Beyond Boba coz have never been!-lol... Keep Dem Videos Coming!

That's exactly my lineup from Shige's since the mid 80's! Occasionally I would order the Loco Moco and mac salad. Dong Yang from the early 80 when everything was under $10 for meals. Back then Korean stores was scarce in that area, so I would by my kimchi and banchan's from there and still do. It used to be service, I guess since COVID it stopped. #17 combo and Bibimbop, Korean Style! Keep your awesome food adventures coming!

My husband is a Wahiawa boy. Grew up around the corner from there. We always stop at Dong Yang if we’re on that side….and have even driven there a few times exclusively to get their meat jun. We don’t get anything other than the meat jun. I couldn’t tell you what anything else there tastes like. I don’t even wanna know 😜

Shiges!! You guys finally made it there! One of the best saimin and burger places on the island. And you definitely gotta dip that burger no matter how nasty Amanda thinks it is 🤣🙊

I live on the other side of the island so if you say this place will give palace Saimin some rubs then I’ll make the circle island trip to try it out. On a side note I still make the drive for the meat jun that’s automatic.

Not sure how it compares to palace (haven’t been there in a while) but if you down that side definitely try it!!🤤🤤🤤🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻

This is Old Schoolfood. Saimin, Cheeseburger, Fried Saimin and Teriyaki Sticks. Looks really Ono and nostalgic. But why only two Teriyaki Sticks? Mahalo and Aloha.

I miss Saimin from home. When we first moved here and was asking for Saimin they were looking at us like huh?😳 when you raised in Hawaii that's all we knew was Saimin. Never heard anyone say Ramen.🤦🏽‍♀️ Found out quick that the mainland don't know Saimin, everything is "Ramen" 🤷🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ Of course only the local restaurants here know Saimin but can't go into an Asian restaurant here and ask for Saimin 😂 Lol..

Try Youngs meat jun in Aiea. Top 3 meat jun on O'ahu. Kimchee 5 in keolu is pretty good too. Anyone else know a meat jun spot?

How does the Meat Jun at Dong Yang to the Meat Jun at Young's Kalbee in Aiea? Young's is my go to spot for Meat Jun for years. I moved to the mainland, but every time I visit home I eat at Young's at least 2-3 in a week.
