I think Phillip Seymour Hoffman was an amazing actor and human being.
He could play a meek boy or a flamboyant gay, a priest or a thug, a cult leader or a jewels robber. He was the man of a thousand characters.
He was good in flawless with Robert denero as a drag queen..also as a depressed gas huffer in love Liza,, capote good too actually all roles , he was a great actor .
It was THE MASTER role in 2012 that I believe that cult religion made it look like an OD. the church of Scientology doesn’t like anyone saying anything about their leader or church.
Owning Mahoney also was awsome
It's such a loss, his acting was soooo authentic, on the genius level
I met him and his family 1 month before his death.
He was gracious and kind.
What a loss to the world!
I cried throughout this whole video. I have gone through this exact thing with my son and heroin addiction. You cannot help them - the only person that can save them is themselves. Hoffman was my favorite actor. This is so very tragic. God bless you, Mimi. I can only imagine your sense of loss.
And God bless you too. Until an addict is brave enough to heal their own pain, that is sadly the legacy they give to others who love them. I wish you and your child all the best in the world, I can't imagine how your heart must shatter every single day, and the strength it takes to pick yourself up each morning and continue to love them despite of it.
Try methadone maintenance, it worked for me, atleast for the meantime.
@@derekarmstrong9024 - He's been doing methadone maintenance for one year and three months. It has helped quite a bit, but the guys at the clinic like to "supplement" their methadone. They drug test once per month and they all know when it is. It does work if one is committed to the program.
With Heroin Addiction they Cannot help themselves. They are Addicted and it takes over mind body and sole.
@@KnockOffBeingFat Unless you actually want to stop, lock a chronic junky in a room with nothing except an industrial meat grinder with heroin inside and i garuantee you they will not put their hand in to get it.
One of only a handful of superlative actors. Truly amazing. He almost ruined scenes with other actors because he was so good compared to them.
Genius actor ... he could play ANY role and it was so believable and often intense. Sad loss.
I died a little the day I heard the news. I looked forward to his performances more than that of any other actor. Nothing compared to what his family must have experienced.
Truly a great actor. Especially loved the character he played in TWISTER. That's the Phillip I'll remember. R.I.P
he was one of the best character actors of all time
He was more then a character actor, but I understand what you're saying.
What a great soul he was
Absolutely great actor, never saw a poor performance from this man.
Agree! Moneyball was a pretty poor performance, thou.
@@raymond3803 how
@@VC-ps2vm idk, Maybe it was just not a challenging role. (Like Tom Hanks in "Catch me if you can" not very challenging.) But it appeared to me that he gave a lazy performance.
@@raymond3803 I have seen a scene or two
But he was good in the short role
The best art comes from pain. A song. A painting. An acting performance.
so true
Bingo
What a load of crap
@@7pope8 you are proof of my text. You are in pain. Thus, your text is art😜 comedy is art too...and trust me..the best comedy comes from pain as well. 😎
Nope not in pain, nor do I subscribe to the tortured artist cliche. “The Best art comes from pain”... really, wow so original! What a bunch of crap!
Hoffman was the most fascinating actor ever. Fascinating person ever. So complex and nuanced. I could listen and watch him all day.
I first noticed him enough to look up his name and remember it when he was in Magnolia. The character he created was so rich and deep and relatable, as were all his characters. He was a truly gifted actor. He is missed.
I will never understand why the medical community doesn’t step in with legitimate help for addicts. Not everyone can quit. Dose them! Daily at a pharmacy or doctors office. Our current policies on drug addicts are absolutely worthless.
Methadone
@@insatiablecuriosity2555 It's a horrible substitute. It is definitely better than heroin, but it has a longer half-life and is just as hard to stop. Methadone maintenance programs aren't actually treatment for the addict. They are actually designed to protect the community FROM the addict. By switching the addiction from heroin to methadone, the addict can be more functional so those programs do have some positive effects for them, but they remain addicts. What those programs actually do is lower the transmission rates of communicable diseases (leading to lower medical costs and increased community health) and the need to commit crimes to pay for their addiction (leading to lower rates of property crimes, petty theft, shoplifting, etc.). There has to be a better answer than this.
If someone with his kind of financial resources couldn't put together somekind of dose plan for himself ... I don't know if it works that way ...my opinion is that Mimi& friends shouldn't let him isolate.
Iv been saying the same!!! Give them morphine or dilaudid!! It will save thousands of lives
@@jamesdunn9609 It's called harm reduction and it is most definitely for the substance user, however it benefits the community as well. there are studies that show people who use MAT programs have the most success with long term sobriety. they slowly titrate off over a long period of time. We also have subutex and suboxone now as well.
I still can hardly watch him without crying 😢. Will ALWAYS love and admire him ❤💙♥
The filming of Robin and Phillip at 5:07 Is so powerful.
His fallout with AA friends is an indicator he was in relapse before he picked up and used. Relapse occurs long before you start actively using ....we pick up our old Lone Ranger thinking and quit doing what it takes to maintain our sobriety.. And , especially after a long period of sobriety , we fall fast and hard.
People like you are a giant trigger for anyone
@@diana2063 I hear what you’re saying and can agree. Ive spent literally hundreds of hours listening to the bot slogans. Fortnately, I stuck around the rooms listening and came out understanding the meaning of patience and tolerance. I particularly resonated with “Take what you need and leave the rest”. Sober for 35 years ...I do not go to meetings now, but they had an exclusive role in my getting sober and maintaining sobriety for years.
Agreed 😢❤
Damn, this is a loss I’ve had a hard time accepting. Wonderful man, amazing actor. Gosh, how I wish Mimi had kept him at home. You should never turn an addict loose. Once on their own, they might die. May his soul Rest In Peace. May God bless Mimi for all she’s had to endure.
A huge loss indeed. The rough thing about addiction though is that there’s often no way they’ll get better until they hit rock bottom. It’s taught in alanon that healthy boundaries must be set in order to not enable the addiction and you really can’t blame Mimi for doing so, especially for the safety of her children.
About 15 years ago, I happened to sit in the next table from Philip at Keen’s Steakhouse in NYC. He was quiet and unassuming. When I looked over at him, he gave me a polite nod. I wanted to talk to him, but I respected his privacy. He seemed like such a down-to-earth and a genuinely nice guy.
No matter how long ones sobriety is. Your addiction is off in the corner doing pushups getting stronger.
Not true for everyone.
I wouldn't say getting stronger. But it will definitely linger around for the rest of your life.
His presence on screen was reassuring, you just knew the character was in good hands with PSH.
Sorely missed, I mourned his passing, and I thank him for giving us some of the most memorable cinematic experiences. No one will ever beat that Philip swagger in Ripley, that slimy Red Dragon reporter, the acidic, exacting Capote.
Hope his wife and children find peace, it's the least they deserve.
Amazing actor!! So sad we lost him. ❤😢
Thank you for this video.
I still can't believe he's gone.
One of the greatest actors of all time
Such a rare amazing actor. A true loss of brilliance.
Rest in powerful peace Philip Seymour Hoffman 🙏
23 July 1967 ~
2 February 2014⚘
May you rest in peace Mr Hoffman. You are now okay and you don't need to battle anything anymore. I love all you movies.
One of my favorite actors! He will never be forgotten.
Terribly sad for her. It’s very hard for the loved ones of addicts.
Yep.
If they were so madly in love why weren’t they married?
It's devastating! Addiction caused me to have to separate from my other half, a few months before our 10th Anniversary! However, we are blessed beyond words, to have just celebrated our 20th Anniversary, a couple of weeks ago! And there will be a 10 years sober, celebration, in a few months!!!
Too bad wish he never moved in alone during such a vulnerable time
Wow..being that incredibly self aware..even to the point of turning over his finances. Most addicts seem to lack any sort of ability to make that kind of decision. They both knew it was unavoidable.
I miss watching him so much. He was amazing. ❤️
Im now 21 sober and when he died it hit me hard because it kind of deepened my understanding of what I’m against, in a way he helped me, I got closer to the rooms and my sober network, addiction is a thief
I hope he’s acting in heaven. Such a gem of an artist. Saw him on stage once and so glad I got the chance…
So tragic, so sad, indeed! Loved him as an actor, a genius and truly gifted! Not easy to see him pictured with another genius and truly gifted Robin Williams who also had inner demons, addictions and committed suicide. May they rest in peace~♥♥ BTW, great commentary, well done!
I remember how much he stuck out to me, more than anyone else, in the movie Twister. To me, his small role made a huge impact and I was always excited to see him pop up in movies since then.
I chatted w him once in front of The Public Theater, we were both waiting for rides at night. He seemed sad to me. Unhappy.
I really loved his acting ability and authentic talent. Amazing talent met tragedy as a young person he would never truly recover from addiction. Mimi poor sweet ladie. What a heart break.
He must have been in such pain I am an opiate addict I relapsed after 20 years I didn’t think it could happen again but it did it’s devastating
@Vintage Bleached Blonde There must be a great, primal fear of the nature of Human Pain in our Western societies. So thank you for putting "pain" right out in the open with your comment. As children or young adults, could we be taught more truthfully about the nature of pain, and the many many ways in which it is experienced ? These can be such cataclysmic times in our lives. Why will some people accept, rebuild and heal ... and others will not. (It is now Oct 2022. I hope that you have stepped through the relapse that you wrote of.)
I love this man, and not just as an actor but as a fellow addict. I have never seen such acting. My kids and I saw him in "Death of a Salesman" on Off Broadway two years before he died.
He also had severe depression, which this video doesn't mention.
RIP PSH
It is the most helpless and heartbreaking moment when u truly realize and accept u can't make someone get help. Been there
Phillip Seymour Hoffman died before his Time, he was a incredible actor, it's such a tragic loss!
FLAWLESS 💖 📽🎬💖
Meaningful to hear this... thankyou. Everyone needs to know this about addiction. I love his works.
He was an amazing actor and person. Lost too soon, but hey least he had a beautiful life before he passed.
A sensational actor. He played so many different roles from a baseball manager to a priest. Terrible loss for anyone that love watching movies.
God rest his soul. What an amazing artist. His son has his gift and I am so glad we get to see his work continue through his son. My feeling is he got too busy and speed kills. Whenever there are demons arising in life ask yourself "how can I slow down around this?"
You will always be missed. There was something so special in you.
Love to Mimi and children. 🌈
What a legend he was
Such a talented actor & so young. He was a favorite of mine👍
Loved him! Still devastated about his departure 😢
One of my all time favorite 💯🙏
I'm so sorry buddy. We miss you and your talent. Always hurts to lose one of us.
There are some actors that when a new film of theirs comes out I really look forward to seeing it. Hoffman was one. Another one to me is Michael Shannon, his performance in Nocturnal Animals made the movie for me. If you haven't seen it, you should.
Back to Seymour Hoffman. Very sad when he died. Maybe it was a brief look into his private life but his best movie to me was Before the Devil Knows You're Dead which was also Sidney Lumet's final film. A very devastating film. Anyway, cheers!
He was amazing !!
Sad. Saw him in True West on Broadway. 1st row, could almost touch him. He hit me with toast that flew of stage. Wish I could've seen him acting new roles for 30 more years.
One of the true great actors of are times he could turn a so so movie great with his performance my heart goes out to his family miss you 🌻
PSH' filmography is filled with great performances and films.
My favourite actor along with Gary Oldman
I ended up reading Truman. C after watching this Phenomenon portray him on screen. It will be tough to think of him as having passed.
What a great ACTOR ! RIP. SUCH A HORRIBLE WAY To LOSE YOUR LIFE. MY HUSBAND DAVID DIED FROM LIVER CANCER, 2 MONTHS AND GONE, WE HAD NO SAY IN THAT. Be grateful for the time you are given, dont throw it away. PRAYERS FOR ALL.
just finished watching Capote and then this came up on my suggested videos! Sadly missed.
I miss him! He was amazing. 💕 RIP🌷
He is such! An amazing actor, goddamit was he awesome
Thank for adding eng sub sir 💕
Surrendering day by day to the care of a loving God began with Step 7 of the 12 Steps and has been the anchor of my sobriety.
When your partner dies, and u r co dependent, u have to learn how to be alone, all over again.
incredible in everything
What a loss to the the world the day he took his last breath. I'm sure he loved his family soioo much. Addiction is like a need once uve had it in ur system. Almost all the brilliant people have had addiction's. As a matter of fact we all have disabilities. God bless his beautiful family
Phillip Seymour Hoffman was in a league of his own. A magnificent character actor and there is only one other actor I can think of that is truly wonderful is Daniel Day-Lewis. Bloody shame that his life ended the way it did. Left far too soon
RIP 🌺☦️🌺 “ If you don’t talk it out, you’ll act it out.” The acts may be fatal..🙏
Beautiful soul!
Thus made me cry so much
No doubt...he was a fabulous actor......just soooooo talented......no demons, just an addict.....that’s all....
I think it Is bitter Sweet that his son in now in the current film Liquorice Pizza.
So much pain and so much suffering. Very sad.
I think it’s depression what triggers addiction. Blessed him ❤ he was amazing actor I hope you know!
What a brilliant actor.
He was such a great actor!!!
thank you
Let this great actor rest in peace.
Huge loss IMHO, Great point about "working so much means less time for rehab" Miss ya Phil
Alcohol is THE gateway drug. I’d bet if not for picking up alcohol he wouldn’t have gone for heroin.
Absolutely one of the greatest talents in Hollywood. Let’s not forget he invented SHARTED, well at least for me anyway 😂 Life changing word. 🙌🏼
The voiceover tone on this is horrible. Lose the cheer in your voice when discussing a tragedy. The difference between an amateur and a pro is a pro much like a singer relates to the copy being read.
RIP Phil,, we love you ❤️❤️❤️
She would "run" after she left him and didn't try to help, what a fighter that Mimi girl
Harvey. Have you ever lived with or loved a heroine addict? Have you ever been addicted to heroine? You are virtually powerless and the lies, behavior, the abuse, and the missing finances pull anyone down attempting to help or ‘save’ them. Addicts more often then not end up dead, and ruin, no, destroying everything around them.
Wow!
A tragic loss.
Love Liza ⛽ miss him he was one of the greats.
Damn man
I loved him so.
He had a separate apartment from his family so he could do drugs. He’s no hero.
Exactly . America needs to wake up and see how destructive esteeming “UnHolywood “ .... these are just people who play pretend all their lives and get paid to do it .
Folks in hollywood, like this guy, are the LAST people anybody should be praising, or putting on some fake pedestal. Most of them are not good people.
He is best actor of my life
Wish I'd seen him in Death of A Salesman, too steep for the tickets, though I liked his last film role A Most Wanted Man. When it's time to go, it's time to go.
It was a big tragic for his children, once they grow up,wish they will never touch drugs like their dad
So sad 😢
Great actor
The sad part is that isolating him was what probably what did him in....
R.I.P. big man...
