This is ONE way to get free wood for a firewood business. Is it worth it?

  • There are many ways to acquire logs for firewood production. For me, in my area, this is one of the top ways to get wood for free. Word of mouth is a powerful thing. Let folks know you desire logs, and they will call. Make sure to answer and do it in a timely manner.

Power company and town have been clearing trees along the powerlines. Lots of free wood!

My personal opinion (take that for what it's worth), is that it's ABSOLUTELY worth the little time and labor investment to have the free wood. I'd do that all day long!

It's a win/ win situation. Free except for my time. Helping some folks out as well.

I wish I could do the chainsaw work I need. Just scared of the dang thing. I have an electric I use because it is easy. But it is just a baby chainsaw. I use a reciprocating saw for most of the small tree's I wrestle with. 😂

Being scared is pretty much being respectful of it. They are dangerous tools that need to be respected. Luckily, there is safety gear to help mitigate the hazards . Some good chaps go a long ways in protecting your legs. There are smaller gas-powered saws that are similar to your electric saws in power. I'd suggest starting there if you ever make the leap over to gas powered. If the electric ones work for you, just stick with them. All in what you're comfortable with.

I never used a gas chain saw, but a few years ago we bought a wooded vacation home.
Took a bit of practice to get comfortable using the saw.
Now, I just have to keep reminding myself about safety!
Keep the chain sharp and wear gear to keep your body safe, when the accidental trip or stumble happens.
