The first trailer for Wicked has dropped, and this two part movie will release the first half this Thanksgiving. The film stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible. Jessica Clemons and Brandon Barrick give their first reaction to the trailer and breakdown some of the iconic moments.

I think they will start the film not with No One Mourns, but like in the book - Elphaba stalking Dorothy because of the shoes, hence Dorothy is there.
That's what I was thinking too. I'm going to have to read the book.
In terms of the bits with Dorothy etc all, Wicked (at least the stage version) opens with Galinda retelling the events of Wicked to the citizens of Oz, so rather than flash forwards to part 2 they could be part of this framing narrative

Jon M Chu kiiiilled it with In the Heights, the only thing I was nervous about was look/CGI stuff, but it all seems great. I am hyyyyyped.
all the sets are real, the budget is insane and if you look at the behind the scene photos all the sets are HUGE and real, and most that you see in the trailer isn’t actually CGI bc they built majority of the sets, including planting all the flowers in the field, building a real moving train, building shiz uni, building the emerald city, building the boats that take galinda to shiz and also munchkin land. they’ve taken inspiration from the wizard of oz and how that was all real sets. I truly do have a lot of faith with the cgi as most of the sets are real which is so cool !

I absolutely LOVE the musical Wicked. I haven't had the good fortune to see it live, but have watched it several times on CZcams. If it were possible to wear out a downloaded album, my Wicked album would definitely be worn out. I hope the movie doesn't disappoint.
I was SO EXCITED when the trailer came on! I cannot wait to see this. Wicked was all over the place in my senior year of high school, so much so that our choir performed songs from it at graduation. It will always be one of the most important musicals for me. So I'm super ready!
I'm partly very, very excited for this and very nervous for it. Wicked is my favourite musical ever and if they mess it up I'm going to be very sad 😭🤣😭

I love the trailer and I can’t wait to see it! *Moana 2* is going to be in deep doo-doo at the box office, lol! 🤣🤣 What’s amazing about the trailer is the cinematography is beautiful and magical as it captures the breathtaking wonders of Oz! Plus seeing Dorothy and even in the flesh made my jaw dropped, especially wearing the Silver Shoes! Yes! Book canon confirmed! I never seen *Wicked the Musical* in person but fortunately I will definitely see the movie adaptation this year!!! 😍💚😍💚😍
My favorite comparison of The Wizard of OZ & Wicked came from one of the creatives early in the production of Wicked. They said something to the effect of “Wicked is The Wizard of OZ if the camera was pointed just a few feet to the left.”
the book also used the silver slippers and the yellow brick road as an allegory for US monetary policy. That was less important in the film. XD

I just hope the two parts means we get all rhe songs, or at least most of them! Realistically nothing should /need/ to be cut for time. As for if anything gets added, I'm down so long as it doesn't cut back anything important.

The trailer is for both parts. So the Dorothy scene is probably still going to be in the second act (movie).

The play starts at the end. That’s why the first song is “No One Mourns the Wicked” which is reprised in the finale. So that shot is probably from the beginning.

Actually, the teaser contains scenes from both part one and part two (they filmed both parts together)… I think they did it as a presentation of Wicked for the general public, so that's why they put only Wicked on the title and not Wicked Part One

From the trailer I thought it was an adaption of the book. Are they trying to do The Color Purple ploy of not letting non-musical theater nerds know it's a musical? That very much backfired for The Color Purple.
no babes, unlike the color purple. wicked is EXTREMELY well known as a pure broadway musical. It will not be a surprise when people see it and hear singing. Plus the trailer actually has singing in it.

I would really hope that “Wicked” has more singing featured in the future trailers but for a teaser I think this amount is fine.
As for “Color Purple,” I actually thought the trailers did put out there a lot of singing/indicators of it being a musical. Where it backfired was for “Mean Girls” because, without the acknowledgement of it being a musical, general audience members assumed it was just a pointless remake and shit on it for that.
Dr.Dilamond isn’t mentioned because Idina is playing the character!!
I imagine the filmmakers wanted to “tell” the non-broadway audience that this is “Wizard of Oz” prequel and so showing Dorothy and co. Is the hook for them.

I don't think they're gonna be labelled part 1 and 2 - Cynthia shared a shot of the cover for the script for the second part, and it appeared to be just called Wicked: For Good
Yeah I think they were kind of smart leaving Boq out of this teaser because the actor and Ariana are trending for the wrong reasons but you kind of can’t leave Glinda out of the trailer for WICKED😅
My question is this- are they going to follow the musical or the book?? Two different tones. Two different endings.
Would not be surprised if it primarily adapts and mostly keeps the tone of the musical, but brings in some elements from the book to fill some of the extra space they're getting from making it a two-parter.
Though I can think of a few things from the book that they almost certainly _won't_ adapt. It's much more adult than I think most people only familiar with the musical would expect. I was certainly too young and sheltered to be reading it when I did (i.e. as a 7th- or 8th-grade Catholic school kid).

Wicked is my all time favorite Broadway Play! The story is amazing. It's the prequel to the Wizard of Oz. I would recommend you all see the play. You'll truly enjoy it!

I love that it has taken some look from 'Oz Great and Powerful'. Don't really care one way or the other for Ariana Grande, but the rest of the cast is amazing and I can not wait. End of the day: it's Oz; I'm in.
