This is the Ford F150 Lightning - an all-electric version of Ford’s iconic pick-up truck!
It may look pretty similar to the normal F150, however there are some key changes to set it apart from its petrol-powered stablemate.
Aside from the plethora of Lightning badges around the truck, you can get a full-width light bar at the front which gives it real presence on the road. You also get a blanked out grille finished in gloss black and a light bar at the back.
The changes are obviously far more than just aesthetic though, as the big V8 engine has been chucked away in favour of an electric drivetrain. You get two motors, one on each axle, providing all-wheel-drive.
As standard, this truck has a 98kWh battery with 452hp and 240 miles of range. If that's not enough for you, then you can upgrade to the 131kWh battery, giving you 583hp and 320 miles of range.
The Ford F150 Lightning starts from just under £41,000, however the range-topping Platinum version we have here will set you back close to £90,000. But is it worth it? You’ll have to stick with the video to find out. "

For the 10% of truck owners here in the U.S. who actually tow and haul for distance, the Lightning isn’t the best. Electric vehicles are at a disadvantage for payload and freeway cruising, compared to gas engines with overdrive gears, which per gram of energy are more mechanically efficient at freeway speeds, *and* hauling.
However the majority of truck owners here rarely if-ever, use the utility, tow, or go off-road. This is perfect for the majority of American truck owners

Not correct at all, range in terms of bettery capacity and technology is the current limit but no gas power engine will ever compare to electric motor torque which is directly link to it pulling power. Must electric trucks has one gear ratio compare to the many needed by gas engines to do same work. I believe the current problems with gearbox on electric trucks is the loss in efficiency in terms of bettery and the fact the electric trucks will need beefier gearbox and new clutch technology to handle the instant torque they produce. There is a reason the biggest motors in the world are electric motors power by gas engines substations.

I'd be interested to find out if there are any cars tested by CarWow over the past say 5 years have taken anywhere close to that distance to stop. Mat's 911 Turbo S takes only 29m - that's 26m less than quoted in the Highway Code!

Ironically enough Lightening's short range is far more appropriate in Britain. The max 320-mile range is acceptable in America only if we're talking about commuter vehicles. Pickups are for the wide open spaces. An ICE truck with a V8 has about 500 miles of range, refuels in 10 minutes and there is no shortage of fueling options.

I think this is perhaps the most significant electric vehicle for sale in America. The F150 has been the number one selling vehicle in America for years. ford in their wisdom decided to make the electric variant just like the regular one. This is not going to convert any tow haulers But it will create a completely new segment of buyers for Ford. People who have never even considered a truck, Like me, also people who would have never considered an electric anything. The spacious luxury car interior. Its ability to carry almost anything. the bonus covered storage in the front. Ford answered questions with this truck that no one had even asked yet. The other 2 available options may be more dynamic but they will never be as everyday approachable And familiar as a Ford pick up.

Try getting in and out of the Rivian Frunk and you’ll find out as you lift your cooler in and out of that Rivian Frunk how strong your back really isn’t. The E 150 is a van and ford still makes that it’s called the econoline 150 and they use it for ambulance cutaway chassis alone side the ford transit because the chassis is much more heavy duty.

max charging AC power is 19,2kW (80A single phase) - in EU usually at homes we have 3 phase systems with 32/40/50 or maybe 63A breakers - so it will be hard to charge with full power - 11kW is 1x48A, in city with AC type2 stalls without cables usually 32A is max so 7,2kW

Even with the lower limits for towing and hauling, my impression is that the first EV for most Americans will be a pickup. Particularly if the new EV credits can be used to offset some of the extra cost.

Ford hit a home run with this. The old F150 was the #1 selling pickup in the world for years. This one should continue that success.

A UK registered F150 - insane for the UK.
Great if you never want to park in a carpark and of course anyone driving a left hand drive in the UK is nuts.
Needing an adapter to plug a UK plug into the sockets too..... awesome. Seriously anyone who buys this in the UK needs their head examining.

Theres actually quite a few of f150s in UK, in my city alone ive seen 4 - one of them being a raptor, another being an SVT and thr other 2 being “normal” models

@@aadi8568 I should have qualified my comment by referring to private individuals using it as a car and builders or tradesmen using it for it's load carrying.
You've seen 4x F150s.... I live in London, I can walk for 30 minutes in any direction and walk past thousands of cars parked up, a decent number of them are EVs, I'll see loads of Ford Transits and 0 pickups of any description. I can't even recall the last time I saw a pickup of any description (it was probably a L200), not sure 'quite a few' is right, extremely few is probably more like it.... although maybe London isn't the best place to look for them ;o)
Autotrader has 30 F150's for sale nationwide, by contrast it has 57 Aventadors for sale and 98 Ferrari 488's and 803 Teslas (all models).

@@corleth2868 well of course I am not saying f150s are common cars by any means, just that the area I live is relatively small (especially compared to london) However I would argue that normal size pickups like L200s Hilux Ranger etc. are very common sights outside of the city centre, they are everywhere where I live

I have seen many American pick ups and muscle cars here in London. One guy in Chelsea drives Dodge Ram monster truck and parks it on public road, if you ever past Radcliffe Gardens from Earls Court towards Thames, you will see it, its huge
