  • Ned Rigs are terrific presentations, but they have some limitations. The Jig Rig eliminates the problems a Ned Rig has, but still keeps all the fish-catching benefits. This setup has replaced the Ned Rig for me, yet still uses the same soft plastics Ned Rig anglers love.

    Great video Steve! Here in southern Brazil, we have been using a similar setup for about 10 years for catching Traíras (Hoplias Malabaricus). The difference is that we don't use a swivel or split ring, just a snap with a weight and hook. It's very practical for changing the weight of the sinkers and the size of the hooks. Keep up the great work! Greetings from Brazil.

    Nice rig Steve, and as always the underwater view makes it great! Looks like a super short Tokyo rig. I found the pre-built Tokyo wire, swivel, split ring pre-made on the asian supplier sites and amazon at great prices, with 6inch wires. I use them to make all kinds of custom configs of length, weight and hook. I'll be adding the supper short w/ a football weight for my rock climbing in or NW Texas lakes after looking at this. Ive even added on the wire a few crimped on round splitshot to get very light weight w/ the swivel action and a floating micro bait.... get's it done!

    I've been experimenting with different iterations of this basic idea. One constant pain when using the offset widegap hook (#1 in my case) is that when you catch a fish, the TRD tends to slide up the line. Not a problem with a traditional plastic, but the elaztech stuff makes it tough to get it back in place on the hook. I'm hoping to find a simple way to prevent that from happening. Excellent video as always brother!

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors

    • @ballhawk387
      @ballhawk387 Před 11 dny

      @@SteveRogersOutdoors I use the lightest weight as well, in general. Maybe use a small length of lead (or the modern equivalent where lead is a no-no) wire doubled over the eye where there are heavier rocks to make it easier to slip through? Those are also the areas that hold the sort of critters a ned rig imitates, too.

    You know they make EWG offset ned rigs so that you can Texas rig the ned worm and not get hung up as much.

    • @tomc8930
      @tomc8930 Před měsícem +1

      Don’t you think you’d get a little more action with this setup? I’m going to try this setup but I’m planning on using a 4 maybe even 6” worm and maybe a creature bait.

    • @cblification
      @cblification Před měsícem

      @@tomc8930 Yes, that's certainly possible, but my guess is that it would be nominal. I have more confidence with the Z Man EWG offset than any other Ned rig, and I've tried them all. Assuming you're using a soft ned bait that floats, it stands straight up when dragged or hopped across the bottom. I get snagged way less than with a standard open hook setup.
      I'll try this other method, but a lot is going on. A clip, a hanging weight, and a hook. I try to err on the side of less is more when fishing bass and the EWG ned rig is a simple line to jig, and you're fishing.
      If you're using a six inch bait perhaps his method might be easier. I typically don't use anything larger than the 4 inch TRD when ned rigging and this works great with the EWG Texas rigged.
