I’ve really enjoyed The Lost Crown and Stella Blade this year, but right now SMT V Vengeance is taking the cake for me.
However once Metaphor drops I think it’s going to be a wrap.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is my favorite so far.
You like more of the open ended zelda games. But echoes of wisdom probably will be more open ended, you can jump over trees and stack thinks to go vertical. I'm pretty hyped for this more open gameplay on a 2d Zelda
As far as what came out thus far; excluding remakes and remasters would be Lost Crown. But Paper Mario takes the cake otherwise. But as far as games coming out, it's either Mario & Luigi Brothership or Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom.
There is nothing funnier to me than PE recommending FF7RB... but not having beaten the game yet because *shrug* it's not that fun.
Also bold prediction: SMT won't win anything because people don't play those games.

See this makes me realize this year is very slow for good games even though I’m enjoying the remakes and a few others and waiting for Zelda and Mario and Luigi

@@gtn800 It's only great if all you play is RPGs one after the other. Outside of that it's REAL bad . Maybe Indiana Jones or Zelda can help a bit, but it's still such a slow year

So far my expectations are for Daybreak, but at the moment for me granblue relink.
Daybreak is really good, I already have Daybreak 2 pre-ordered
Stellar Blade is my game of the year so far. One trophy away from platinum. FF7 rebirth I finished right before Stellar Blade. Great game as well. Maybe number 2 for me. I'm also playing SMTV Vengeance and I know it's a re release but it's incredible. Then we got Metaphor Refantazio coming up. Visions of Mana. It's honestly too much lol this a great year for jrpgs.
I'm pretty sure FF7RB will get it.

If there weren't such a Western "AAA" bias, Unicorn Overlord and/or SMT V Vengeance would win GotY easily.
Also, I hope people aren't sleeping on Prince of Persia. That was Ubisoft at their best and bodes well for Sands of Time.

Baldurs Gate 3 trumps TOTK simply because it really changed RPGs as we know it. It is fact that as a CRPG, the scope and reactivity of the world, there has not been a game with so many branching choices that actually change the world you explore.
The things you do, and even your race and class follows you throughout, nothing (if ever) is obsolete. They literally leave ripples through the story and can lock you out of various content, while opening up new content for you to explore. Yes, gameplay wise you can argue that we have seen the same formula before, but in terms of interactivity and storytelling in an RPG, I have never played a more impactful game before.
The different choices in narrative dialogue alone gives the game ample replay-ability.

GOTY is going to FF7 Rebirth. Literally one of the best RPGs I’ve ever played. Astro Bot is probably gonna be top tier too.
