RIP Bobby Murcer. He was my favorite Yankee of all time .In the Voice of the great Bill Sheppard #1 playing Centerfield batting 4th Bobby Murcer...... Murcer..
Gabe Paul was the rat GM that traded him. The only good thing about that trade for Bobby Bonds was that Bonds was traded for Mickey Rivers and Ed Figueroa and they were key additions to championship team. At least Big Stein realized the error and brought him back- I could go off for hours my enjoyment of turning on game (against Blue Jays I believe) and seeing him lead off second base after a double not knowing he was back. for yrs I had to wait for the Sporting news to arrive to catch up with Murcer for years- no ESPN back then.
Right on both counts. The only real shame of the Yanks return to glory in 1976 was that Bobby was not on the team anymore, but at least he got to play for a winner in 1980 and 1981. He, along with Roy White, Stottylmyre and Munson gave the Yanks some real hope during the lean years of the late 60's and early 70's.
@MegaObserver1: Actually, he returned to the Yankees during the 1979 season. Remember that amazing game that he basically won single handed against the Orioles the day Thurman Munson was buried. I went to the stadium a month later and saw him hit 2 homeruns in a game.
I used to be a Yankee fan, but I always loved Bobby Murcer. Class act!
I like Soupy Sales spontaneous appreciation of Bobby Murcer..Even though I was a Met fan...I always liked Bobby Murcer..a first class Man!
Bobby Murcer was a great ballplayer for the Yankees, but more importantly, he was a great human being who will be missed by millions.God Bless.

Arlene’s a Giants fan. Bobby played in San Francisco starting in 1975.
A GREAT YANKEE and he had very neat handwriting!!
Ron Bloomberg!?!? C'Mon, Soup!
Bloomberg was the first Designated Hitter in MLB ever. Pretty significant in sports history. Ron or Bobby, yes.
Have to say Phyliis Newman is among my favorite female panelists whose name is not Arlene.
I wonder if he ever got tired of the Mantle comparison
This is not long before Larry took over WML, right?
The majority of celebrities are.
With all that long hair , it's always possible that his hair interfered with his vision on rainy days. LOL
Phyllis Newman was so snotty...
Wally Bruner, not doing it as an MC. Very boring
Uhm, no offense, but you need to read the Bible!
