    I’m calm, steady. I slept well, eight point two hours. No bad dreams. I am ready to go. Ready to do my job to the best of my abilities. I am focused only on the essentials, to the exclusion of all else. I will make only pragmatic decisions. I will not allow myself to be distracted. I will not allow my mind to linger on that which is unimportant. I will not rely on anyone or anything. I will not be vulnerable to mistakes. Resting BPM, forty-seven. Submit.

      Oh man. I don't agree with you. I can't make heads or tails of this movie. Great special effects and it had a neat, 'cold' space feeling, but they lost me after the space monkeys. It seems that they were trying to be deep, but it came across as goofy. Perhaps I should watch it again. I imagine many people had the same impression of 2001 - A Space Odyssey.

    • @diracflux
      @diracflux Před 3 lety +1

      @@charleswaters455 The baboon scene was, I guess, meant to be jarring and probably there was supposed to be some message about the dystopian future and horrors inflicted on beings in the name of human progress or something... I dunno, it could have been done much better I think, or the message delivered in some other way that didn’t leave the lasting impression of intelligent, psycho space baboon. I don’t think this movie was supposed to be a prequel to Planet of the Apes.

    I love this movie so much. The only little thing is I felt the wife was unnecessary in the story unless she had more scenes and they were deleted

    • @petermaltzoff1684
      @petermaltzoff1684 Před 3 lety +16

      I see where you are coming from as this movie is essentially a Father Son story.
      I think the purpose of the wife was to show Roy detached from his life. Even when he looks at his wife, he doesn't see her (as she remains blurred).
      When we find out Roy was not able to let go of his Father, we find out why his wife left.
      So I think it only adds to the ad astra...

    • @Henbot
      @Henbot Před 2 lety +7

      His wife was necessary, she is a core reason why he comes back, duh. The whole point is he is treating her like his father and unlike his father he returns for her, she pulls him back from oblivion which is why you see her blurred at the start and then at the end she is unblurred.

    • @samsonguy10k
      @samsonguy10k Před 3 lety +2

      It is a good perspective on what life in space will be like for folks when it becomes more common, outside of just those trained in national space programs. There are a lot of situations shown in here that sadly should be expected and be prepared for. Piracy, conflict, isolation...especially isolation. It's easy now for crews on the ISS and the later moon missions with little radio lag, but anything past that and you will start to feel the loneliness with no near-immediate communication.
      That's a good reason to not watch this movie on your own.

    • @krisynthiagomez5883
      @krisynthiagomez5883 Před 3 lety +2

      I don’t think so, not only was he married he did seem to feel genuine affection for his wife, his difficulty was that he had problems expressing that affection. If he were schizoid he wouldn’t have pursued a relationship like that in the first place, nor would he be interested in trying to make amends at the end of the movie, or have even recognized his behavior as problematic.
