  • In light of the current Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard defamation trial, it is important to remember Dave Rubin's views on the #metoo movement, especially arguing that the phrase ‘believe all women’ is counterproductive and legally flawed. Jordan Peterson enters the conversation, drawing attention to the left's hypocrisy, primarily how their severe view on consent interacts with their liberal view of sexual relationships.

    It shouldn't be "believe all women" it should be "consider and/or investigate all claims". Maybe then, men could also feel safe claiming when the abuse happens to them, too. A crime which is greatly underreported.

      @@kashiaroundtheworld really it comes down to: do we judge the circumstances and the individual? Or do we judge the group? I generally believe in giving victims the benefit of the doubt, but I also believe in the "trust but verify" principle. If the idea requires me to judge another person, or call for violence, I prefer to err on the side of caution. I reserve judgement. I wait for facts. I consider the case's relevance to me, and whether I really need to know. "Innocent until proven guilty" should go both ways. The claimant is Innocent of fraud until proven otherwise, and the same should be said of the defendant whose guilt must be proven in court.

      That's what it means tho, it doesn't literally mean "believe" every allegation uncritically or assume someone is guilty before he has been proven to be!! It means take all women's claims seriously and don't ridicule them or call them liars!!

    • @grcarie
      @grcarie Před rokem

      @@nolistrombowli8288 that may have been the initial intent, but that is not how it turned out. I never had a problem initially with IDEA of #MeToo. But as soon as people's lives were being destroyed over unverified or false stories, it stopped being about the truth. And that is where the problem lies. It became a social and political tool used for bullying people or getting attention on one's self. This became true for so many hashtags. The ideas started out with good intentions, but the very nature of social media made them subject to quick abuse.
      It is true that many women are not believed. That needed to be addressed. But it is unjust to accept every accusation as truth, especially where there is something to be gained.

      Don't. The presumption should be that the woman is an entitled, infant, monster and that she will lie if it suits her to do so and you are her victim. Far too often, a woman will emotionally "like" the idea of something but, when she hasn't done the hard work it takes to really embody that idea and you come expecring her to honestly live by that idea, she won't blame herself for her failure at the skill required, she will blame you for "making her feel bad". When, in truth, she "feels bad" because she hasn't really gone any further than, "I really like that idea". What Dave posits, that we are "born innocent" is sheer radicle-left insanity wrapped in fake conservitism. Ask yourself this question, why do we see the advocates on the left screaming, crying, and throwing temper-tantrums like immature children? Because they are, Sir. We are all born selfish, infantile, and guilty as sin. If we are very blessed, we will be taught, not sparing the rod and by a religious Jewish or Christian mother and father who tell THE truth of the Lord God, period. If we are not, we end up having to seek out THE truth on our own and fighting through our own learned insanity to embody real virtue and truth.
      Regretably, Dave's only god is... Dave. Seek the Lord, Sir and He will reveal the truth of Himself, in part, and humanity, in totality, to you. Do this first and see the cross you must carry clearly. Then, see women clearly.

    “Mobbing people who seemed to have made an error.” He has a wonderful way with words because he actually considers those words carefully. Mobbing is what people do, unfortunately. And they seem to mob about things that relieve them from accountability or consequence. That is, it’s a form of collective self-referential narcissism. But on one thing Jordan Peterson falls into a contemporary word trap. He says something we hear too often. “We need a serious conversation about…” That, my friends, is an empty, even utopian sentiment with no real meaning. Mobbing is not about serious conversations. Humans have very few serious conversations. And how might we define them in any case? Impossible. This current moment is all about people who cannot be serious asserting unsupportable things to self-aggrandize and pander, an entirely emotional, self-referential (and hence, ungeneralizable) stance entirely allergic to “serious” conversations. “Serious” conversations are, therefore, extremely rare. In the age of social media, they signals submerged in the noise of the mob. As much as I admire Jordan Peterson’s genuine care for humanity and serious scholarship and rhetorical accuracy, he falls into the trap of an entirely fluffy concept that merely points to the impossibility of doing the very thing he asserts. There are no “serious conversations” except between very small groups of rare people who share philosophical alignment on core issues. And they can’t influence anything but their immediate surroundings. There never has been, and cannot be, a “serious conversation” about real things that, by implication, arrive at insight and turn into policy or actual human normative transformation. Jordan, as brilliant and genuine as he is, is not having a serious conversation with the radical left. He’s mocking them and they attack him in return. We are all, it seems, ants on a log floating down a river. We may think we’re influencing its path, but that would be easily debunked by any entity with a higher level of understanding. Take care of your area of the log and hang on.

      When someone has a platform to communicate with large amounts of people, I don't think their primary goal via that platform is to have serious conversations with radicals. It's probably to speak with the much larger group of moderate people who are willing to listen and conversate reasonably. De-radicalization is a worthwhile endeavor, but it's much more effective if handled on a personal level and not in the public eye where the radical will want to keep a facade to prevent public humiliation when their ideology is exposed. By reinforcing the common sense and reasonableness of moderates, those moderates are better equipped to have serious conversations with the radicals in their lives.
