    • Peter Hitchens | Cold ...
Peter Hitchens is a British journalist, author, and broadcaster. He currently writes for the Mail on Sunday, where he is a columnist and occasional foreign correspondent. He regularly engages with a great many topics in public debate on major television & radio networks and at universities around the world.
Peter has just completed his tenth book, a critique of the modern British education system. His past works include The Abolition of Britain and The Rage Against God.
A former Trotskyist, he partly attributes his return to Christian faith to his experience of socialism in practice, which he witnessed during his years reporting in Eastern Europe and later from Moscow during the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Conversations feature John Anderson, former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, interviewing the world's foremost thought leaders about today's pressing social, cultural and political issues.
John believes proper, robust dialogue is necessary if we are to maintain our social strength and cohesion. As he puts it; "You cannot get good public policy out of a bad public debate."

Peter Hitchens, is in my book at least,a very rare beast,a journalist I respect. He is the ONLY person I have read that has a genuine appreciation of why the British Police Service has declined so much in the past 40 or so years.A decline precipitated and engineered by our useless and arrogant politicians who have, once the stupidity of their meddling has become apparent, then blamed the very people they charged with implimenting their so-called reforms. As a person who was in the service from 1965-2001 I had to standby as government after government slowly deconstructed what was one of this nations greatest assests.Mr Hitchens also watched as this tragedy unfolded, I suspect rather like the early 30s.

If Australia fails, if democracy in Australia fails, if the protection of human rights in Australia fail, where to?
Freedom from arbitrary detention is different to freedom of movement, however, freedom from arbitrary detention by the state, unless according to law, is guaranteed by ICCPR Art 9, and is "applicable to all deprivation of liberty", with possible compensation for unlawful arrest or detention.
When it comes to mandates for rat test(s), or social distancing, how are competing medico-legal issues, like medical trespass and consent, resolved - have adults had the ability to decide for themselves, as any adult over 18 might, and or, has that been taken away: in general, in health/medical, and or, in government?
It sounds like so far, people have been advised of expectations, needs, requirements, but, are those opinions on rules according to laws, and if they are, where can the legislation for those rules be found; and,
Can it be said that those rules are not inconsistent with established prevailing laws, (such as Freedom from arbitrary arest, informed consent, entitlement to refuse treatment, freedom of movement between states provided by the Australian Constitution, etc.); and,

I think Peter needs to read and know Tolkien better.
Tolkien’s work wasn’t just simple surface good and evil
But then maybe he does know but this is not the time for such things
The Orcs were once good beings twisted by Evil to do Evil Things even though they despised themselves for doing it !
They came to loath beauty and a higher purpose and sought to twist beauty when ever they could so that they could only mock.
My personal belief is that Tolkien saw what good people did in the trenches and at the Somme during The Great War (Remember most men were ordinary volunteers and then Conscripts)
There are many accounts of people being shocked back in Britain at how once good people talked about the casual killing and maiming of others and that some enjoyed it while realising what they had become capable of
The Orc is in all of us given the right circumstances 😢
This was shocking to many at the time.
Remember Tolkien’s work is Catholic Theology wrapped up in myth and legends
For more there’s an acted out discussion between Tolkien and C S Lewis on CZcams
Ps I am aware that Peter is talking about how virtuous our elites are and that they believe they are good while Russians are the Orcs
