There are cases where JJ doesn't even address the counterclaim so why if it was for TV why doesn't she address the BS countetclaim? She just dismisses it with no discussion.

You are wrong. They get hotel and flight because unlike regular small claims court they can only get a maximum small judgement on jj. Its no fees like in regular small claims which most cannot afford. Many are unprepared because they are the idiots being sued and have no proof because they are in the wrong. You have no clue how much all the fees are to go to small claims. Each paper and photocopy costs. Filing costs. Courtroom costs. Serving costs. Lawyer for both side costs. Etc. And if you dont win you pay it all for both sides. Most fees paid upfront. Max win 35,000. Here a lot less but free to apply.

Yes, the show pays costs. It's truly the only way people would get justice. The deadbeat losers aren't gonna be responsible. Ever win in civil court? I have. Good luck ever seeing your money again. First off I like the Judy justice spinoff. I guess it makes sense that the guilty parties don't actually pay anything after all menney of them just don't look like they would have the money.

I found out quite a while ago that the show pays the losing defendant's costs. Its the same here in the UK on TVs "Judge Rinder" show.

Pretty much every show pays for the outcome and the parties receive an appearance fee…heck…the audience are paid as well.

The losing party doesn't get their "appearance fee" though ($800, last I heard); it's forfeited and put towards the judgment amount.
