    Great video Eric! I’ve been checking out different wraps, my colostomy is only 2 weeks so still a newby. However in the meantime, I dug out 2 old tshirts that are too small. I cut straight across, armpit to armpit, cutting the sleeves and collar off. Instant wrap! It’s long enough that I can fold & tuck the bottom of the wrap and put the end of my bag into the bottom. It would be super easy to just sew that pouch as well. This wrap hack has worked beautifully!

    Thank you for the demo, it is very helpful. It looks comfortable. At first, my Stoma Nurse insisted on wraps that are a real struggle to put on. I can now use those in the bath. I am now going over to Awestomy to shop for something supportive but pretty & comfy.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  Před 8 lety

      I like both the wraps from Awestomy! and the classic wraps from OstomySecrets. Depending on price, color options and availability, either are with getting.
      As long as you get a wrap that has a pocket (not just a belly band), it'll work well for supporting a pouch.

    will this prevent the bag from filling fully and cause a higher percentage chance for a leak if you wear it as an all day product? I've been fine tuning a set up that I can wear during work that will 1. prevent leaks as much as possible and 2. provide hernia support (I have good sized hernia now) and 3.keeps a low profile (the only person I want to know that it is there is the boss) Currently I'm using Coloplast's elastic barrier strips for leak protection and ostomy armor's waist wicks and a 9 inch Nu hope ostomy hernia belt for the support all of which is working perfectly for me. Now I just need something to cover my third goal of keeping a low profile without compromising leak protection or volume of output available. Right now I'm looking at something either like this awestomy wrap or a stealth belt. I have an ileostomy with liquid output and a stoma that is higher up, like 4 to 5 inches above my waist.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  Před 7 lety +2

      +Nathan Deas Any kind of wrap or accessory that presses against your stoma can restrict output, but that usually happens when it's on too tight and when the the output is thick. I find that these do help keep the profile lower, although I prefer something like a StealthBelt for better support.

    • @ntdeas
      @ntdeas Před 7 lety

      Vegan Ostomy Awesome! thanks for the quick response! I think I'm going to try out a stealth belt or something comparable. I'm thinking that will give me more volume and less frequent pit stops as well since I won't have to worry about my belt cutting flow with it sideways.

    How does the poop drop down without pancaking when clothing is tight?

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  Před 2 lety

      It's best to avoid tight clothing, if possible, or you'll need to "manually" assist the output to drop.
      Some stoma guards can help, but they can add unwanted bulk and it wouldn't be my first recommendation.

      @VeganOstomy  Před 9 lety +2

      Hey Ann, no question is a silly one =)
      I don't even think I knew what wraps were until months after my surgery. I did start to wear a Stealth Belt Pro about two months after surgery though. I did have some wound complications post-op, so I wasn't in a rush to wear anything around my abdomen.
      One tip: If you are underweight before surgery, I would wait until your weight stabilizes before purchasing a product like this, just so it isn't tight months down the road.
      Take care!

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  Před 3 lety

      Good question. Anything that you put over your stoma has the potential to restrict flow and or reduce the capacity of your bag. I find that wraps tend to pinch the center of the bag, but most loose or semi loose output gets down there just fine. The most challenging output to have when wearing one of these accessories is slow, thick output. This will "pancake" often and usually requires manual intervention to move along (ie. Pushing it down with your hand).
