This man is already wealthy, has a produced show... yet is still putting in personal effort just for his CZcams fans. I don't know what to say. Thanks.
Good thought, Caveman.
Thank goodness, because the cable TV show is awful thanks to the producers.
When Jack and Johnny left it took awhile for me to warm up to Jay now I see why he was better than either.
Love u jay
@@markarrington3869 , what about Conan? Do you like Conan?
Thank you, Jay. It is always a pleasure to visit your garage and share our mutual passion of all things motorized and wheeled. Thank you.
“This is the definition of an adult toy, not that kind of adult toy” - Jay Leno (the king of analogies) 😂
Jay’s been in quarantine so long he’s run out of denim shirts. I have now seen everything.
I feel the very core of the earth breaking down as the tectonic plates begin to dissolve
Thank you for continuing to produce these videos, makes this mess a little more livable
Here here!
Jay- "The kind of car to go out and look at the Christmas lights"
Me, living in Indiana- "Suuuuuuure..."
LUNCH MONEY Connect an electric heater and electric blanket
I'll let you know how it goes. I have an Edison² in Ohio, and that sounds like fun, with a little preparation. Y'know, "Over the river and through the woods..."
Or New England Christmas lights. 🥶 where Jay is originally from.
I live 15 minutes from Indiana. We're neighbors :)
Fellow Hoosier here - thinking the same thing! Man, we were covered up in blankets even in an enclosed car!
Okay. Don't apologize for showing off something awesome like that electric motor. Hell, now I'm more interested in that than I am the car! LOL
@2FAST 4YOU82 You're such an internet badass!! We're all so scared of how tough you are from behind the safety of your internet anonymity. Please don't hurt us you double hard badass.
Yeah, I was exactly the same. I love the Ariel Atom so I was fascinated by the Vanderhall Edison 2 but frankly seeing that Tesla electric motor has blown me away. Tesla was a genius but a terrible businessman who was exploited by Westinghouse and deserves a lot of credit for the modern age of electricity. There is a fantastic book by Richard Munson called "Tesla - Inventor of the Modern" which I seriously recommend anyone read.
Thank you so much Jay, I love your passion, your insights and that you keep these marvels safe for prosperity. You truly are a inspiration to us all. God bless you and your family.
@2FAST 4YOU82 Or what? Are you going to hurt me from behind your keyboard? You're terrifying, you Internet badass.
@2FAST 4YOU82 There is no way to email you my address without you giving me your email address. Send me your email & I will *happily* give you my address.
Be warned though. You *will* be leaving in an ambulance.
@2FAST 4YOU82 Come on. Give me your email. I'm looking forward to this. Really looking forward to this.
Jay Leno has more street cred as a car CZcamsr than any other channel on the platform. Cars are his life, his passion is extraordinary.
Jay I loved the part on the electric motor. Please do more videos like this :)
Yep I would like to see more on the other stuff that's hanging around in the background.
Exactly what I going to say. Good stuff.
From England. Not the new one.
Agreed. It would be great see more of the mechanical odds and ends that Jay has in his collection.
I especially thumbs-up the addition of period manufacturing explanations. There is imperial gravitas in Jay's subject, even tho he is only gearing up for a new LA theme park (LA is saturated with that silliness). If you wouldn't want to return to a park, you won't want to drive across LA for it, especially if you come from out of state. Getting customers into the gate is one thing, but keeping them engaged is going to be critical. I would pay LA admission prices if I could get into the economic background of these vehicles and imagine myself a contributor. Period materials and processes, that is what makes these automotive achievements important and impressive.
Cool looking car, I had a beard shaver that looked just like it! lol
Hahaha, if it was white, a Mixmaster.
Did you mean beaver shaver? I actually did that to a girl once but mine was silver and black. lol

@2FAST 4YOU82 lol hey kid, how old are you?
Thanks Jay for trying to keep a sense of normalcy during all this craziness and bringing us videos every week. This one did make me laugh, because I kept picturing old commercials where Santa comes down over the hill in a Norelco shaver....
I remember those commercials😅
Well done Jay (and crew). I didn't mind checking out the old electric motor. Totally on theme for the show. Never feel like you have to apologize - this is your channel, you put up what you want.
For those making fun of Jay for saying "Tesler" or "Teslar"; it's called a BOSTON ACCENT, people!
Yes but he also says Nikolaj. Its not Nikolaj. That would be a russian name. Nikola was Serbian. So Its Nikola and its Tesla not Tesler. . So he butchered both. I mean come on Jay.
However Jay was born in NY. Leno was raised in Andover, Massachusetts. While attending Emerson College in Boston, where he graduated (1972) with a degree in speech therapy, (Teslar) he worked as a stand-up comic in nightclubs. ; )
Wish there was a 4-wheel version of this , very cool front end .
Looks like an aston on drugs
@@savagetuner2404 It'll be Aston in another 10 years, when their front grill finally takes over the entire front end...

Thank you so much, Jay, for putting out videos despite the circumstances; the extra effort is much appreciated.
Jay, thank you for making your show despite the obstacles we are going through.
Is it me or is Jay more focused when he doesn't have to talk to a distracting owner or designer? Less repeating and drifting.I say solo Jay forever.
It's cool, but to that happend normally jay needs to own the car, that limits the possible content.
If I see a vid with just Jay and his own car, I will always watch it. If it's someone else and their car, I'm about 50/50.
HE WAS REPEATING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER IN THIS VIDEO.
I like the guests telling their stories about the cars they bought and love.
@2FAST 4YOU82 Thank you very much for the intelligent reply 😒
Thank you Jay! So wonderful you take the time to still entertain me after all these years,,,,you're my hero!
What a guy! Jay Leno even in "retirement" he is an absolute professional. Thanks for all the fantastic entertainment, love this channell, loved you on Last Man Standing.

Thanks for continuing to put these videos out Jay. You & your team do a great job!
I'd love to have a motor like that. It's a beauty!
That electric motor is so cool!
I always enjoy watching these cool cars, thanks for sharing, Jay!
Jay thanks for doing these. It's awesome that you share it all with us and it will be great for all the future generations to see too.
Why are you a better salesman than any i've ever met? I started saving for one before i finished the video
Really interesting, really entertaining, loved the early electric motor. Great job Jay!
Thanks, Jay! You certainly do have the best toys. And we love it when you share them.
Jay youre the best. Thanks for making these videos. They are so good and i truly enjoy the way you present the cars and interact with the owners/builders of these impressive ideas.
I'm happy to see this electric motor, it's a part of cars history. I wish I has a Edison 2 too 😁👍 nice video thanks.

if I ever get an E-Car, I will proudly put a sticker on it saying "Coal Powered", I live in WV
i went quad riding for a week at the hatfield mccoy trails in WV it was beautiful. even if half the tiwn was abandoned
It was from a LONG time ago (Arab oil crisis?), but I remember one toiler in the field of Electric Cars writing "Electric cars are a great idea if you want to run your entire transportation system on coal".
Now, with renewables a much more viable option, moving to electric vehicles is a key part of any carbon-free or carbon-neutral energy strategy, if we want to go there.
I live in France so I often joke my electric scooter is nuclear powered.
Thanks, Jay! You are so fun. And I love the fact when you really want a fun drive you come through our neighborhoods and head to the hills!
There's an honesty and intimacy to these videos that is quite refreshing...
Just a slight correction to Tesla's bad deal with Westinghouse. The original agreement was that Westinghouse was to pay Tesla $2.50 for each horsepower of AC electric motor sold. That would be the rough equivalent today of about $50 per HP. Tesla held the patent for the AC induction motor which was massively important. This is still the most important type of motor even today. When Westinghouse ran into financial trouble Westinghouse asked Tesla if he could reduce the $2.50 per HP payment. Tesla said he didn't have to pay him anything and tore up the contract! As you said, if Tesla had held on to that payment or even just took the reduction that Westinghouse proposed he would have been one of the richest people in the world at the time. To say he was a bad businessman is an understatement.
By the way, I enjoyed seeing the vintage electric motor but then again I am a retired electrical engineer.
Thanks for the better information!
The electric motor was more interesting than the car 😅
the vintage electric motor was truly inspirational when you think they don't seem to be able to make any motor last these days just recently I had 2 washing machines in 1 year 2 under warranty motor screwed beyond economical repair. and that motor is still on the original brushes.
Tesla was beyond human. Seems he only cared about creating and inventing. Such a noble man.
@@p00pie He was not beyond human. He was an excellent engineer for his time. He had several great inventions such as the AC induction motor, improvements to AC power distribution, the Tesla coil, and portions of radio technology. He also had a lot of totally wrong ideas such as he didn't believe in the existence of the electron, didn't believe in the theory of relativity (special or general), didn't understand Maxwell's equations, didn't believe in the theory of quantum mechanics, thought that the ether was real, thought that Martians were sending us messages, and others.
Don't get me wrong, Tesla was a great engineer and inventor but he was no better than many other distinguished scientists of his day. As a retired electrical engineer I am well aware of his work.
Thanks for continuing to crank out videos, Jay! We here on CZcams really do appreciate it! :-)
Oh man! That sound of the electric motor! Just love it!
Thanks for putting out these videos for us Jay.
I have a tremendous respect for Jay. He is a guys guy, even though he is celebrity Hollywood multimillionaire. He never lost himself. Oh, nice car. That looks like fun to zip around in.
He has this uncanny ability to make me feel like it is just he and I who are having this personal conversation about stuff we are really into. He knows what I like...how does he do it? Genius!
It’s 12:20am for me right now I was just about to go to sleep and... Jay posts a video... this happened to me before lol. I have work tomorrow... damn me... that’s what coffee is for
Forget work, just loot for the stuff you want.

Thank you Jay. I always enjoy your videos.
Where do you get the electricity?
More old engines please. Lol 😉♥️
Great to see you out driving in the canyons again. The drives in the city just aren’t the same. loved the electric motor too.
I have owned 3 cars in my time, none for a few years, drive a truck for work. I never had interest in vehicles but this channel has taught me an appreciation and given away solid knowledge. I have watched dozens of episodes. The electric motor in this episode is as fascinating as the steam engine was in another. I have learned more from this channel about vehicles than I ever would have from any other source. I say don't shirk on the details like an electric motor by itself, the small stuff is excellent.
One of these days that Bike cop following will actually catch you, Jay.
Hahaha, I was thinking that a while back too,, ahaha, Have a good one Vince.
Now that would make a good video 😃
They hire those cops to keep traffic behind Jay while filming for safety issues

And I really love the design too! That big open grille with the headlights behind the grill! How Cool is that!👍👍👍
You have been doing a great job 😊
It’s an Edison?
....so it has a stolen Tesla drivetrain?
He didn't steal the idea of being romantically in love with a pigeon. Tesla was a weirdo, not the great hero the internet kids try to make him out to be.
@@Yellow.Dog. your point?
@@Yellow.Dog. What are you angry about? Triggered by a joke LOL
@@Yellow.Dog.
He was a genius which we refer to nowadays as an Autistic.
@@Yellow.Dog. wow Edison was a crook and a liar I would rather stick to with the so called weirdo 😜 because he actually cared about humanity not about the buck. And loving an animal and caring about it what's wrong with that. It's not like he was having sex with a pigeon.

Where does the non polluting electricity come from, Unicorn Farts?
The sun.
@@starfox_wr-45e93 straight from the Sun to the batteries?! Fascinating.
Thank you so much for keeping up the hard work during pandemic!
Thank you Jay. Keep them coming.
Really interesting video. Back in the early 1960s my neighbour rebuilt a 1930s Morgan with a vee-twin 1000cc Matchless engine, when I owned a 1932 BSA sports car. Which was a development of the BSA three wheeler. Morgan's four wheel sports car exactly copied the BSA with the exception of the radiator shell.
BSA sports cars were owned by Daimler, which is why the crankshaft was fully machined all over and the unitary gearbox and front wheel drive was all aluminium. And in 1932, the independent front suspension had four quarter eliptic springs on each side, with fabric based universals.
They were a part of the group that made Lanchester cars.
With all of that nostalgia in my mind, I totally enjoyed the video. Now I have a new goal.
Phil.
Thanks for sharing. The technology in those cars was way ahead of its time.
The BSA Group owned Daimler
Love the channel great content as usual (especially during these turbulent times).
Quick note. The pollution stops only if the car is charged by solar or other renewables. If the power comes from the plug (in California) it is only 31.2% renewables and the rest is either nuclear, hydro (damaged ecosystems) or coal/gas-burning power plants, therefore when charging the car 68.8% of the electricity in the battery will be produced by either non-eco-friendly means or by "burning" something, i.e. CO2 emitting processes. Furthermore, considering production CO2 emissions, for example, the famous Prius production cycle goes like this => the nickel (for the batteries) comes from the mine in Canada (very polluting process - sulfur), then they send it to Europe where it is refined, then to China where it is turned into sort of foam, then it goes to Japan where they put it into batteries which go into the car => then they ship the cars back to the USA. The car will have done the circle around the Earth before it leaves the showroom floor. And then (get this) you still need to put gas into the Prius + maintain that gasoline engine...
Quick note.....pffft.....never mind.
Solar and wind being the cleanest sources of electricity CO²-wise is a common misconception. Considering the amount of rare earth metals and the life span of turbines and panels, plus the fact that most of these are produced in China, which powers its factories mainly with coal, nuclear power and hydro are by far the "cleanest" regarding CO² emissions.
Still you have a point bringing up that electric vehicles are not charged "cleanly". Nothing will in fact, the very definition of using energy means transformations are made, nothing is 100% clean.
@@Fatman67 their is so many hidden pollutants within an electric car, like you say. A well maintained 30 year old car actually has a much smaller impact on the environment than a new electric car. The point where the electric car becomes more environmentally friendly than the 30 year old vehicle is at around the 400,000 mile mark, by which time the batteries will have needed replacement at least twice, therefore negating the supposed environmental advantage of electric cars in the first place. Currently, they are nothing more than a "feel good" purchase, which will only really benefit their local environment, but on a global scale, they are still a highly polluting product. Undoubtedly, in time, that will change for the better.
@@pablojones5613 Not quite sure about that 400.000 miles mark, that seems to be excessively weighted in favor of gas engines even if you take very pessimistic efficiency figures for electric vehicles.
Electric vehicles are already cleaner than gas engines (even with coal powered electricity) after some mileage (probably something the 10s of thousands range rather than hundreds of thousands), but the source of power to charge them has a dramatic impact on overall figures for sure.
Engineering explained has a very good video on the topic with great sources.
This thing looks pretty awesome! Thanks, sincerely Jay and staff!
Jay . You RAWK!! Thank you for keeping it going you’re such a trooper!
Of course it's stable even with 3 wheels, one of the tire equals the total width of all 3 tires on the Morgan 3-Wheeler.
I love the honesty
And Jay that is why I think you’re the best thank you again for your effort in those difficult times
I'm actually really liking these more personal feeling pandemic episodes. Just Jay geeking out over his cool stuff and sharing it with us.
The commutator on that Emerson motor looks a little worn down after 120 years or so.
What were they thinking, making a piece of throw away kit like this!lol.
Ps I'm talking about the electric motor.
The brushes look like they're almost at the end of their life too. No probs, just hand make some new ones from other brushes that are larger.
One thing you forgot Jay. The pollution starts all over again when you dispose of the batteries...and it is extreme polution. Just a note. It is an extremely nice 3 wheeler!
Yeah, the best thing for the environment is driving an old car.
I saw 2 of these the other day and snapped a pic, this video popped up on CZcams and I didn't even have to search the internet to find out what the heckl that thing was 😂 Thanks Jay!
Jay,
Thank you for this one. I have been looking at the Edison 2 for a while.
It was good to see this with someone I trust as a car enthusiast.
It would be a great weekend scoot to make the grocery, beach or farmer's market run.
In Cali it would be a great commuter if you have a short street commute.
Thanks again for the review and keep them coming.
Another great show from America’s curator!
I think it would be cool if Jay was given the opportunity to design his own dream car and what would that be like?
He did. It's a jet car that he did a few vids on.
It would definitely have a prominent chin spoiler.
The Tank car,and the Jet car are just 2.They've built 3?bodies for frames, and drivetrains that weren't complete.
I like that Jay cares enough to make his content more full and robust with content. Thanks Jay.
Very cool ride. Thanks Jay.
4:36 Jay's got that covered.
"Once they're on the road, the the pollution just stops"
LOL. Yes. Because electricity comes from pixie dust.
Or solar, or wind... But bring on the pixies!
@@Brevet217 how much of the electricity you use comes from solar and wind energy?
@@Enucentro Other than the stuff I have no control over while "out" almost all of it in my case, and I'm not alone.
@@Enucentro Overall, just over 73%. For the Edison, all of it, as I can wait to charge it when my panels are producing. It really is a great machine.
@@Enucentro All of it can, if you choose to invest into it. Tell me can you invest into your own gas refinery and fuel pump at home? I have been driving electric cars for 7 years now and I have had my fuel pump in my garage all that time. The amount of juice used for my car on avg has been 10kWh per day ($1.11 a day). That's nothing compared to gas and it's associated pollution. Try as you might but any hate towards an electric vehicle is invalid when it comes to efficiency and pollution excuses. All you can complain about is looks and practicality for long range. Both is easily addressable. Didn't even talk about no oil changes and zero maintenance (fan belts, radiators etc) for 7 years!
I daily a 90 year old Ford. Zero guilt, and I am in California. Thanks for another excellent video, Jay! God bless
Seems like a personal favorite vehicle for me. Kind of hitting on the 32' Ford when seeing it from the front angle and also the front 2/3rds angles. The side profile sure does look modern: near bat mobile. Thanks for sharing. Hope it's built to last the test of time. Enjoy!🥇

Yeah, that electricity just magically comes out of thin air.
In the last 5 years the emissions intensity of the California electric grid (where this was shot) has fallen 32% and is still falling. This car gets greener the longer you own it, unlike gas cars.
Ironically, yes. You can get electricity through thin air.
It's called solar energy.
Have you ever heard of this thing called a wind turbine? It's a magical device that can literally pull energy out of thin air.
How crazy is that!? Must be fake news or something
Where does that electricity get generated Jay? Almost half the time it is from a coal or fossil fuel plant. Unless you live right next to a dam or wind farm, it still pollutes. It just moves where the tailpipe is.
Depends where you live too... Here in the northeast we had quite a bit of hydro
Exactly. electric is not pollution free!
49hamburger Also, the nation’s electrical grid cannot handle a large number of electric cars. As it is we have brown outs and black outs on extremely hot days when everyone runs their AC, imagine if millions were trying to charge their cars as well! And what about the millions of people who don’t have garages and park on the street? Where are they going to recharge?
Thanks Jay, I really enjoyed this video.
Thanks for feeding my on going obsession with anything with engines while socially distancing the hell out each day here in the UK. Your garage is on my bucket list. J

Glad you showed the first motor, it was interesting! Thanks Jay.
The front styling somehow reminds me of the 90s AM V8 Vantage. Thanks for this video Jay and the team!!
