    Welcome to SHUGY'S JAPAN HOUSE!
    Today, I'd like to introduce Japanese Pokémon name.
    There are so many differences between English Pokemon name and Japanese one.
    It is very interesting, so be sure to watch till the end!

    Fun fact about Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres: in spanish "uno" means one, "dos" means two and "tres" means three

    Cramorant takes the crown of the shortest name in all of Pokémon, in other languages, which was surprising.

      Yeah, Cramorant is called "Uu" in Japanese. It' very short!

    While we're on the topic of Pokémon... Justice for Porygon! Porygon did nothing wrong! The poor Pokémon needs to return to the anime! #JusticeforPorygon

      @@SHUGYSJAPANHOUSE I honestly think that it's been long enough and that there's a way to actually bring Porygon forward without the same issue from repeating.
      However I also highly doubt that it'll ever be done.

    If you didn’t know already, ditto is another way of saying me too.
    When I learned the Japanese names of the legendary birds, I thought, “seriously?” But I suppose English was always the cool language in Japan.

    4:11 This Pokémon English name is pretty similar to my name which is Dhito, my parents never know Pokémon so I guess it's just a coincidence.

    ya know japanese and english charmander name isn’t actually that different. since “char” means to burn and “mander” is short for salamander (or lizard)- its just a “fancier” way of saying fire lizard lol

    Bossgodora and Sazandora (Aggron and Hydreigon) are some of my favorite Japanese names. Aggron is also my favorite pokemon, so that's a bit of coincidence there.
    Also, because I am an incredibly mature person, Boober (Magmar) makes me giggle tremendously.

      Gaming with Prince from what i got, i think he meant that the name Freezer was dumb bc when he learned of the English name, Articuno, it made Freezer sound uncreative.

    The reason why it's called Pokemon over here is because at the time, there was another property called "Monster In My Pocket." In order to avoid any copyright issues, it was changed.

    I love a lot of the Japanese pokemon names though I think the English names are better than the ones that have straight forward names like Crab, Ghost, and Pigeon. It makes them feel more like monsters.

    Knowing the story behind the names for Abra and Kadabra, is Alakazam's Japanese name also in reference to a psychic/prophet or is it in reference to something else entirely?

      Alakazam's japanese name is Foodin (フーディン), which is a rough translation of Houdini, inspired by Harry Houdini, also if you are not aware, Uri Geller is known for his act of bending spoons, which is why kadraba and alakazam have spoons, and Uri Geller sued Game Freak because of kadabra.

      @@localswampmonster9073 since he sued, kadabra could not be used in the pokemon TCG since 2003, that ended recently.

      Here a fun fact: Alakazam's name in German was "Simsala", which is only the first part of the magic word "Simsalabim". Just like Abrakadabra being split for the first two, there would be a final form called "Bim" to finish off the evolutionary line. If that were true then it would have 4 stages then.

    fun fact: Uri Geller found out about a pokemon named after him, and apparently was so offended he sued Nintendo over it in California, the lawsuit was thrown out in 2003, and apparently he is all this time later apologetic that he did that...AKA: he gave himself some seriously bad PR attacking Pokemon.
