- In this video Leah explains the intricacies of a hiatal hernia and the associated VA disability compensation and pension (C&P) exam. She defines a hiatal hernia as a condition where the upper part of the stomach bulges through the diaphragm into the chest, potentially leading to symptoms like acid reflux, heartburn, and chest pain, particularly when it's large. She discusses how hiatal hernias can be connected to military service, either diagnosed during service or as a secondary condition exacerbated by service-related factors like obesity. Leah outlines the VA's rating system for hiatal hernia, with ratings based on the severity of symptoms like pain, vomiting, and weight loss. She then walks through the C&P exam process, detailing the Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) used by examiners to assess the condition, including medical history, symptoms, and the impact on the veteran's life.

Had surgery in 1986 for hiatel hernia. Sense repair is starting to fail. Also progressed to Barrets disease.
Sorry to hear this! Thank you for watching
Does this all fall under Gerd or is separate ratings
I am currently rated at 10%, but it definitely impacts my health considerably, so I'm trying to get it raised to 30% - any ideas? Does your company have success with submitting DBQs in this situaion?
I am sorry to hear this sir. We do not submit documents for veterans or track the claims process. If you would like more info on our services please email us at info@prestigeveteranmctx.com
I am service connected for hiatal hernia and was just diagnosed thru va to have barrets esophagus. Would I get an increase for this.
I’m so sorry to hear this sir. It just depends on how the examiner and rater interpret your case. Best of luck
I have an EKG coming up. I plan on filing a claim secondary to pain in my knees which they gave me meloxicam for. Is this a good route to take
Many veterans have this type of connection. Best of luck to you
Im currently 30 percent for asthma and also have been diagnosed with gerd and hiatel hernia which my pulmonary doctor says makes my asthma worse. How should I go about claiming the gerd and hiatel hernia? Thanks.
Well that is a great question. If you need help with the filling process you may want to seek assistance with your local VSO or another legal professional
So if I get a DBQ from a doctor does that mean no C&P is required?
Not necessarily. The VA reserves the right to request an exam
Unfortunately, my 1 inch hiatal hernia raises my blood pressure, which caused a stroke, because the medication didn’t work. Horrible disease.
I’m so sorry to hear this sir. Thank you for watching
