This is the only time this story is relevant so I just have to share: When I was in middle school they had an “80’s day” for spirit week. I showed up in 1880’s costume and walked around all day saying “no one specified which century the 80’s had to be in!” And usually when I think about that I cringe but now it’s very applicable lol
Honestly, I could kind of see this in a 1980's movie where the main character is a teen girl who time travels to the 1880's through a magic portal, and has to dress to blend in, and shows people at a formal ball how to do all the 1980's dance moves.
The hair! The music! The mood lighting! That neon pink! As a former 80's teen, I say that was, like, totally awesome! 100 Lisa Frank rainbow/unicorn stickers for you!
Former 80's teen? - "former" - speak for yourself (she says lying to herselff lol). Did I ever grow out of my teens from the 1980's...not according to the music we put on. Not according to what I remember most about my life. Sometimes my bff go back in time for the fun of it, and our millennial kids pretend they were adopted. rotflmho
I was there in the ‘80s,* and you absolutely _slayed_ it! Visible corset, lace sleeves, neon, bangs-you hit all the high(?) points. Not everyone dressed like Madonna, but we nearly all went for the hair and neon. *Despite what my students think, I do mean the 1980s-not the 1880s.
This is the best way to use a sponsorship - it totally inspired your work and you did the company justice! Bravo on meeting the challenge of making this work! As a child of the 80s, I Love the dress!
The end result looks so much like some of the dance recital costumes I legit wore in the 80s. I mean, they were way shorter, but there was a lot of “late 19th century shapes…in neon Lycra! With black!” in the dance costume catalogs back then.
More anachronistic fashion videos would be great! I’m a big fan of the idea of period dramas but they inexplicably have modern technology, so this is right up my alley.
With this dress, you could become a famous "blitz kid"! I lived my childhood during the 1980's and this dress really reminds the vibe we could feel in fashion, especially during the new romantic's wave.Congrats!
Heeyy so actually since your last video I've been admitted in my History Major, officially in the historian team lol (still far from that tho). Your channel has always been an inspiration and such a fun way to learn History through fashion and now that I've accomplished one of my dreams I hope I'll be as iconic as YOU, M O M.
omg i can totally picture this look in an 80s music video where there's like a party and everybody is wearing 19th century clothes but in 1980s style, for no reason... which totally sounds like your average 80s music video if you ask me so everything is perfect! ❤
The scamper across the room @11:27 was adorable, first of all. And second, I felt the same way after I made a set of leather stays for the Renaissance Faire (in one night) with minimal leather experience, and having only made one dip waist belt and an unfinished corset mockup months ago. But hey, making the patterns for those gave me the knowledge I needed to make a pattern for the stays in one go, with minor adjustments to the final cut, and the sheer pride & joy I felt when they came out wearable was palpable.
Right!? So many people try to do 80s neons and just completely get the wrong tones. Or they try to have complete outfits in one kind of neon -- which... NO. Just look at our clothing catalogs: turquoise (not neon, just turquoise) outfit with geometric pops of random neon colors. I could probably count the number of single-neon-color anything I owned on one hand, & those were mostly accessories (ok, it might take two hands if I included earrings, but I've always owned more earrings than I need). I can absolutely see somebody from the mid to late 80s choosing this as her prom dress! (Personally, I would have been looking for the 1580s version, but yeah.)
I love how you incorporate the sponsorship into the video. It's not just a separate ad segment which many people would skip but part of the entire video. This is great because it shows us more from the sponsor through a practical lens but also an inspiration for your creativity. Great video.
The hair + headpiece really gives me Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice (the combo reminds me of her hair in the red wedding dress), which is *such* a perfect look for the 80's/historical mashup.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I love the end result, I love so much those over the top 80's dresses and this one hits the spot, it's so perfect!!
Those shots you took and the outfit combined really captured the dark fantasy 80s vibe and now I have to spend the day watching Labrynth, Neverending Story, and Legend until my heart is satisfied.
As a 1980s kid, you nailed this look. I wore everything neon & lace because Madonna was all the rage. Also, I lost it when you added that raven detail! 😂 Pure 🔥🔥🔥
Obsessed with this. Kind of want the flower sash to be more sculptural, like how comically oversized bows and sleeves could get in the 1980s, but you know how it goes
No but it's SO perfect 😭🤌✨ i don't even know how to describe it, but it's that perfect level of anachronistic mishmash that just works. The multicolored flowers make me think of 80s interior decor in the best way (reminds me of all the fake plants and floral motifs my parents/grandparents have in their old pictures 🥹)
I love this outfit! I was a teen in the 1980s, and I would have been so excited to see a movie with a character that looked like this (hopefully with Jim Hensen puppets too!) Yes, you are a genius!
The flower thing you made made me almost laugh, the 4 colours of the flowers are almost exactly my current hair colour. Like, I literally have a mullet that is yellow in the back, has the top/front area split in the middle, half being turquoise green, the other purple and with pink-ish red tails by the ears. My hair gives me such 80s vibes and now I see this video and the 1980s part contributes a colour pallete almost the same as my hair, I love it
Love the more elegant side of 80s hair, and the more casual side of 90s hair lol. Love this merging of eras, lol perfect video idea for merge gardens. Also like how good the 80’s inspo was, some people dont know what they mean when they think 80’s
I totally had a poofy tiered skirt (sewed to a tshirt to make it a dress, of course) that was black with neon pink and green zigzags and swirls on it when I was a little girl. And I always got my mom to crimp my hair when I wore it. I was such a cool 5 year old. Lol
Damn, woman… NAILED IT! My middle school, high school, and half my college years were in the 80s, and can I just say, the color palette, the crimped bangs, the lace sleeves- chefs kiss❤. I feel Madonna would have worn that in a music video. I just started playing merge gardens yesterday and finally started Junes Journey which is also really fun. Super fun video ❤
This absolutely looks like a costume made for a historical movie from the 1980s and they tried to be accurate but couldn't resist the polyester and 80s neon
Neon colours and Madonna lace are definitely 80s vibe. This could be a 1980s prom dress. Love the mash-up idea, please do more. Am downloading the game.
I think you nailed it with this one...I almost picked a black and hot pink prom dress for my 1985 sr prom...let me say, it wasn't too far off from the dress you designed🤣 (I opted for white tulle with pink trim🤷).
Okay, so one of my favourite things to do is watch old period dramas and see how the fashion tastes in the era they were made dictated their interpretation of the historical fashions of the period they're showing, so this was ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL AND MADE ME SO HAPPY!! I appreciate this might have been a one off project but I love the idea and would love to see more of them
The first pride and prejudice movie 8 saw was a black and white made in the 50s. How do I know without looking at the credits? The dresses were ALL WRONG, a 1950s meets crinoline look.
Karolina: I'm not sure how the hot pink and black would match ... Everyone who has ever lived through the 1980's: You're kidding. Honey, that was fantastic. Those of us who went through the 1980's are duly impressed. I now want a Jim Henson Company produced fantasy movie with this aesthetic.
This was a cool project! Only suggestion I would have made would have been to add the green or pink tulle under the lace of the sleeves. But that might have been super uncomfortable as well
This is giving *_Pat Benatar as Irene Adler,_* and I LOVE it. I'm picturing a lost music video called _"Love Match"_ inspired by A Study in Scarlet where she's being pursied by a Sherlock Holmes-type, but she's running away from a past relationship in pursuit of a new love.
Not gunna lie, I love these dress mash-up videos. They are so satisfying to watch and it makes me happy when things come together that no one would think would go together.
This fit looks like it could be an original interpretation of Persephone (dark fantasy vibes worthy of the Queen of the Underground and bright colours and flowers for the Spring Godness)
The questionable bangs comment has never been a truer statement..lol. I always wondered what my mom was thinking when I look at pics of me as a child of the 1980s lol.
Im rewatching this because you posted the add for yourself 😊. I was an 80s kid and it’s funny to me the things that stuck from the 80s…even if it was a flash in the pan. ❤

😂😂😂 SO CUTE! Also cringe, lol, but so cute!
Nothing about that is cringe. Personally, I’d dress in 1780s fashion.
Sure jan
That's actually really cool middle schooler thing to do!! 😂❤
There's a House, M.D. episode where that happens! Except there it's the 1780s, I think lol
I definitely wouldn't expect a mobile game to approach a creator with such an interesting and personalized premise for a sponsorship. Very cool.
I thought so too! You can tell she's got some fans there!
At first I was like, "Where is the crazy 1980's eye makeup?" Then I remembered that in the 1880's, nobody did eyes. The balance is IMPORTANT. Lol.
it’s there! just not visible in the lighting, but there was a lot of purple eyeshadow involved
Bizarre FACT: Just yesterday I was pondering the similarities between 1880's and 1980's fashion! You nailed it with the whole look, Karolina.
Honestly, I could kind of see this in a 1980's movie where the main character is a teen girl who time travels to the 1880's through a magic portal, and has to dress to blend in, and shows people at a formal ball how to do all the 1980's dance moves.
Merge Gardens: how extra do you want this dress to be?
Karolina: *yes*
The hair! The music! The mood lighting! That neon pink! As a former 80's teen, I say that was, like, totally awesome! 100 Lisa Frank rainbow/unicorn stickers for you!

I was a teenager in the 80s, too. But, I never heard of Lisa Frank until I was in my 30s. I was up to absolutely no go in the 80s, though.😅
Wasn't Lisa Frank a 90s thing?
@@MechaG her designs first came out in the 80's, especially stickers and school supplies, but were popular into the 90's
IS THERE ANYTHING THIS WOMAN CAN’T DO
Find her summer outfit
Nope!
After all the hard work and creativity for the dress, the perfect finishing touch was the crimped bangs. Pure 1980's!
This is the best way to use a sponsorship - it totally inspired your work and you did the company justice! Bravo on meeting the challenge of making this work! As a child of the 80s, I Love the dress!
ooh la lah meme mom is getting her funds together for the new summer wardrobe
This reminds me of that one meme that says
*"What we should be wearing: A horrific mash up of Victorian Gothic and 80s clothes"*
Yes! Another entry into the bizarre historical mish-mash Karolina fashion category!
After 20's meets emo, 1880's meets 1980's and I hope, I pray, I'd sacrifice everything for a series of mix match between eras
I love it :D also just reading the title, I thought "1880s meets 1980s? So, Labyrinth?" lol
I can SO see Karolina dressing as the Goblin King !
This dress makes me think of the band Strawberry Switchblade. Totally gives the vibe of trad goth and neon in all the best ways
❤🍓🗻🔪😘
Yes! Jill and Rose practically invented Gothic Lolita fashion. No wonder they had more hits in Japan
Whoever she is, this NEEDS to be a character!! It’s giving lydia deetz 🖤
So very!
Karolina has such classic features, she fits into any time-line! Her fashion sense is the cherry on the top!
she can't convince me she's not a time traveler😭😭
@@nico5846 she can't hide it forever, someday she'll be exposed!
Now karolina just needs to travel back in time to both the 1980s and the 1880s and blow ALL of their minds with this top tier fit
To the delorean!
Karolina Zebrowska, you have an extreem level of creativity! The dress is totally on que for '80's esthetic. I love it!
Agreed - I would never have alllowed my brain to go there. Im not capablle off that level of imagination! shes incredible
The end result looks so much like some of the dance recital costumes I legit wore in the 80s. I mean, they were way shorter, but there was a lot of “late 19th century shapes…in neon Lycra! With black!” in the dance costume catalogs back then.

The bangs tied it all together, it's stunning overall
It's good that the corset shows because in the 1980's bras were shown in the outfit, right? I think you nailed it!! What does Merge Gardens think?!
"Questionable bangs." Love your deadpan humor.
The crimped hair was the cherry on top.

Oh my god, the colors are PERFECT. Spoken from one who lived them. Great mash up. I wouldn't have thought it could work but you made it happen.

Super cool! 1880’s New Romantic, this is definitely a vibe
It's giving 80s New Romantics meets neon 80s.
The hair + headpiece really gives me Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice (the combo reminds me of her hair in the red wedding dress), which is *such* a perfect look for the 80's/historical mashup.

Black lace over the pink would have been chefs kiss 🤭
You are 100% correct. Black lace over the pink. That would make it 1000% authentic.
Those shots you took and the outfit combined really captured the dark fantasy 80s vibe and now I have to spend the day watching Labrynth, Neverending Story, and Legend until my heart is satisfied.
“it’s the one I’ve specialised in” “actually I’ve only done it twice”
As a 1980s kid, you nailed this look. I wore everything neon & lace because Madonna was all the rage. Also, I lost it when you added that raven detail! 😂 Pure 🔥🔥🔥
Obsessed with this. Kind of want the flower sash to be more sculptural, like how comically oversized bows and sleeves could get in the 1980s, but you know how it goes
It ended up looking so good !!! The headpiece was the right decision it really added some 80's 'editorial' in it !
Honestly i wish sponsors would be more involved like this in a fun and creative way I would never skip an ad again 🙌🏼
No but it's SO perfect 😭🤌✨ i don't even know how to describe it, but it's that perfect level of anachronistic mishmash that just works. Yes, you are a genius!
Cant believe Karolina went to 1880s just to get the vibe of that era for the video
didn't expect to see you here
She didn't. We all know she's an immortal being, so she just remembered how it was back in the days
I believe!
“Am I a genius? I am a genius.”
You are a genius. 😊 I’m an 80’s kid, and I approve this mash up.
This is perfection. Peak 80's, 1880s and 1980s. That's it, everyone go home. All hail the Meme Queen.
Also remember this (1980s) was the time of corsets on the outside and lace everything ! This is amazing and I’m feeling it !
The flower thing you made made me almost laugh, the 4 colours of the flowers are almost exactly my current hair colour. Unironically what a look

U NAIL'D IT, And it really was the Pet, that pulled in that finale touch! Lots of early MTV Vibes,Perfect for the video game theme.
This outfit has a whole Helena Bonham Carter's 1980s closet vibe and I'm here for it!
I LOOoOOoOve the end result. It fits the them perfectly. I didn’t know what to expect but this is so pretty
It feels like a movie character and I want to watch whatever movie that character is in!
I totally had a poofy tiered skirt (sewed to a tshirt to make it a dress, of course) that was black with neon pink and green zigzags and swirls on it when I was a little girl. And I always got my mom to crimp my hair when I wore it. I was such a cool 5 year old. Lol

Nailed it!! As someone who was a stylish teen in the '80s I can say the hot pink and black lace combo is on point!
This dress looks like it could be in a music video it’s super cool🤩
@itisblackfriday once described goth fashion as 1880s (implying specifically mourning wear) meets 1980s
I feel this should be featured in CGP Grey's Tiffany video. Also, props to you for sketching in sharpie and getting that bustle!
You really pulled this of, moreover both parts/histories merge! You did good!
This video is perfect for my current obsession, I'm on such an 80's fashion kick lately.
I think you nailed it with this one...I almost picked a black and hot pink prom dress for my 1985 sr prom...let me say, it wasn't too far off from the dress you designed🤣 (I opted for white tulle with pink trim🤷).
This outfit actually goes so hard I love it

Laura Ashley epitomized the 1980s fascination with the Victoria and romantic period. I love the dreamy photography from that brand
LOVEEEEE!!!! Also, this has strong Lydia from Beetlejuice vibes!
The talent! The (18/19)80s realness. Incredible.
This was a cool project! Only suggestion I would have made would have been to add the green or pink tulle under the lace of the sleeves. But that might have been super uncomfortable as well
thank you SO MUCH for these era crossover outfits!! i absolutely love them
It's the crimped bangs for me 😂!
This is the coolest dress I have ever seen. That shade of green is perfect and truly makes the ensemble. You look absolutely stunning.
This should become a trend. Seriously.
You designed this so incredibly well! It's camp and its historic!❤
Not gunna lie, I love these dress mash-up videos. They are so satisfying to watch and it makes me happy when things come together that no one would think would go together.
The dead roses on the table were a vibe! Lol.
I love watching other people utilizing their well-practiced skills to make amazing things like this dress!
this is so 1880s rock n roll pop synth vibe
This color scheme totally reminds me of the Hypercolor t-shirts that would change color with changes in temperature!
I remember when you didn't know how to sew, and now you're a genius. Great progress!
This is so perfect!!! I love your era mash-ups. The flapper/scene girl and now this?? Make a whole series! You do it so well and I'm hooked 😍
Wait, this gown is FABULOUS! I adore it.
It's giving Strawberry Switchblade/perkygoth vibes and I'm living for it
I need more of Karolina being a 80's goth
The bonnet!! Perfect simulation of the 80's big hair!
Im rewatching this because you posted the add for yourself 😊. I was an 80s kid and it’s funny to me the things that stuck from the 80s…even if it was a flash in the pan. ❤
Now this is the kind of aesthetic I didn't know I needed.
Gorgeous Miss Karolina 🤩 🤩 I would have worn this in the 80's, shortened in the front with hot pink patent pumps and a top hat with a pink scarf 💖
I love Victorian fashion, I was born in the 80s, this was a fantastic er radtastic melding! Great job ❤
