You're hitting with all arms and upper back, coming forward into the swing. As you hit the top of your upswing and start down, drop your hips and pull down on the axe/maul, like you're pulling on a rope for a bell. Using your core plus better leverage means you won't wear yourself out so fast and you'll be more efficient with each swing. My father, a logger who's father owned a lumber yard tought me this and my years working the forests of northwest Montana bore it out. This small tweak to your technique will make a huge difference.

As they tire their wrists "break" trying to control the maul. He wasn't worried or angered as the maul bounced a little. He was able to control it with ease and continue on.

How much wood do you split in one year? If you are splitting 10 tons per year you can consider to buy a woodspitter otherwise yours arms will have problems in a few years. Another option shoud be to use some wedges. A little advise: the best way to split big logs is starting not in the center but on the sides
