    I’ve cried everyday for weeks. I think I’ve ruined my voice and I have no idea what to think or do. music is everything to me and it’s all I love. it’s the only thing I find any joy in. if it doesn’t come back I have no idea where my life will go. this is all I want to do. I have no fucking clue what to do.

    I used to be a first soprano. I was singing in a semi professional choir for 13 years. After the childbirth I lost the ability to hit high notes. Now I'm barely hitting the 2nd soprano . My voice has become lower. It has shifted closer to alto/second soprano.

    I’m 74 years old. I used to sing any note I wanted. I used to have a really good range on the piano. Had many roles in musical theater. I had an endoscopy and no findings. No polyps, etc. I miss my joy of singing.I am tired of singing an octave lower

    I use to sing high notes all the time. About 2 years ago I became a Dj/KJ part-time. But my I noticed it became harder and harder for me to sing songs I'd been singing for yrs. So I ended up adjusting my octave and choosing lower octave songs. Even my talking voice has changed. I absolutely could use some help

  • @Ariannaperroots
    @Ariannaperroots Před rokem +2

    Very good video! Just one thing to add, losing your high notes actually could be due to age. As one ages, the larynx slowly starts to ossify. This can lessen the ease of tilting of the larynx, which can make it more difficult to sing high notes.

    • @MikeGoodrich
      @MikeGoodrich  Před rokem +2

      Great point. But as with all aging, a lot of it is mindset. I know singers who sang and sing well into their later years. As the old saying 'use it or lose it'...but we also have to be using it correctly. Some of what we often blame on age is simply bad technique giving out.😊

    I would love to have you comment on Tim Foust's video for his single "Come To with Me". He's singing doo-wop layering himself singing bass through high tenor. The video shows him singing in the various parts of his range side by side. This allows the visible difference in how he uses the muscles in different ways depending on where in his range to be seen. I would love to have you explain what we are seeing.
    You might like to watch his interview on the Charismatic Voice before watching. He addresses what you say in this video in an oblique way. He has made conscious decisions about how he wanted his upper range to sound. He also discusses how when people come to him wanting better low notes, he first asks about how they are using their upper register. In his own way and without the technical knowledge (which he freely admits), he is basically teaching how to keep a better balance between the muscle groups. I was very happy to get an explanation from you as to why what he does is important.
    As always, thank you for educating me and the rest of your viewers in such a clear manner. I look forward to next video!

    I have learned how to do alot of singing through instincts and I had a really good elementary school music teacher that taught how to sing well... I used to have a far higher vocal range before puberty but now I can't quite hit the same range but as a child I had a more female type voice but once puberty started my voice went completely male and my range goes to primarily base to tener but as a child I could do soprano but can't do it anymore I can still do pretty high... for example in the jungle the lion sleeps tonight I can still hit the man's lower and higher singing pitches I used to be able to do the female background singer as well but can't now... although today I generally sing harsher styles but I can pull Freddie mercury out really well... I generally lip sync while actually singing along most of the time... my mom likes it when I sing along to long black train by Josh turner because my natural speaking voice is on the low end but I hate singing low for me because it takes no effort I don't have to work at it the only singer that has a somewhat lower singing voice I sometimes have difficulty mimicking is Elvis but I can do it with practice and reconditioning... depending on what I'm doing vocally I can usually sing all day without going hoarse but it's starting to get harder I don't sing near as much as I used to mostly because it's hard to sing the way I like in an apartment... I can't open my mouth all the way very well all the time the right side of my jaw was dislocated by a dentist when I was young and it catches during certain positions so I try not to open my mouth all the way and have pretty good projection abilities my mom says I need to open my mouth more so it's easier to understand me but I can't always do it because my jaw pops when it catches loud enough it makes my ears ring and it can be painful but for the most part other than my mom most people can understand me while singing so I keep going even to the annoyance of my wife who doesn't understand the need to sing along to your favorite songs and I just say I'm sorry I just love to sing

    Amazing reaction my friend Mike!!...I have seen your reactions to Dimash, the best male singer of the world (In my personal opinion)...Now I want to invite you to meet, who is considered the Fourth All Time Vocal Trinity (with Whitney, Mariah and Celine) and one of the Best Female Singers of the World...The passion and dedication when Dimash is performing a song can only be compared with the person who has influenced him to sing leaving everything on stage: His idol, the queen, the incomparable, the Goddess: Lara Fabian...She is a lyric soprano with a amazing vocal range and incredible breath control...She speaks and composes in 5 languages and sings in more than 15 languages....That's why she is the inspiration for Dimash and several singers around the world...You can see covers of her songs on CZcams made by singers of the stature of: Dimash, Diana Ankudinova, Polina Gagarina, Forestella, Julie Anne San Jose, Sissel Kyrkjebo, Floor Jansen, Diana Navarro, Giulia Falcone, Morissette Amon, Gabriel Henrique, Rimar, Katrina Velarde, Cakra Khan and others...Please react to her songs, all masterpieces, in LIVE versions, because Lara is more impressive when she sings live, so you can see why she is the idol of Dimash...Try to do it in this order and almost all songs are from the same Lara’s concert “From Lara With Love” in Montreal 1999, one of her best works: 1) Je Suis Malade (Singing in French)...2) Caruso (Singing in Italian)...3) Je T'AIME (2002 Live version in Paris Singing in French)...4) Perdere L'Amore (1999 Live version Singing in Italian)...5) Adagio (1999 Live version singing in english)...6) Broken Vow (1999 Live version singing in English)...7) You are Not From Here (1999 Live version singing in English)...8) Quédate (1999 Live version singing in Spanish)....9) Ti Amo Cosi (2019 Live version Singing a trío with Dimash and Aida Garifullina)....I hope to see you first reaction soon and if you don't mind, I'd like you to mention me as the person who recommended reacting to Lara...Here you have the link of her amazing performance of the song “Je Suis Malade”....czcams.com/video/eHSyk4SGtuY/video.html

    My doctor said my left vocal chord is 75% paralyzed. (I was scoped.) Doesn't know why. Probably a virus and they said it can't be cured.
    He said it wasn't from screaming or singing wrong.
    Have you ever heard of such a thing?

    • @MikeGoodrich
      @MikeGoodrich  Před rokem +2

      I'm sorry I missed this! Not specifically but a lot can often be done with vocal rehabilitation. I don't believe a doctor should EVER say that something can't be cured. They are not Gods. Don't give up on it. Just because he or she can't cure it doesn't mean it can't be cured. Get another opinion. I had a doctor scope me one time and say one of my cords had a slight paralysis. Then he looked again 2 minutes later, got a better look and said that it was really fine. I'm not saying that's your case at all but I am recommending a second opinion with an ENT who works with LOTS of singers. Not just an internist or a general practitioner. They don't know enough about the voice.. Good luck!

      I had been able to belt above the break several decades ago (Led Zeppelin etc)
      I have returned to singing after a several decades pause.
      I have worked my upper range back to almost what it was before… but there’s a transition zone where chest and headvoice overlap, just around the break, where it sounds weak.
      It’s a half octave area that I’m not happy with, it’s because can’t seem to put enough compression in this narrow zone without blowing out.
      Also, my break point has shifted downward about 4 whole notes, and so what was at the upper limit of chest is now above the break in the weak zone.
      Lip rolls and zippers don’t seem to help with this particular issue.

I can physically remember the muscles or how to hit particular notes and just nothings coming out. I’m looking on how to get this back whether it be exercises or, heck, even medical help.

    • @MikeGoodrich
      @MikeGoodrich  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @brucekhamp6859 Hey thanks for watching. Sorry that's going on with your voice. The first thing I'd suggest if it hasn't come back since New Years is to go see an ENT to see if there's anything he/she can help you with. If the ENT says your cords look good then you know you can proceed with practicing good technique to rehabilitate yourself. If The ENT sees something that needs to be addressed he/she can help you with that so you can get back to normal. That's what I'd suggest. Good luck and let me know how you do!
